Transmission slips while shifting from 2-3 gear or between 30mph-40mph. O/d off light blinks on/off sometimes when this occurs.
I was opening the rear glass on my 2002 Ford Explorer Sport when the hinge broke and the glass fell on my arm. I was lucky to catch it before it hit the ground. I now have a huge bruse on my arm. I contacted Ford the said my truck was not included in the recall because of where it was built.
Lower and upper ball joint making terrible noise, I did grease but stil have noise.
Was driving 2004 Ford explorer on highway, and had sudden loss of power and excessive vibration. Brought to Ford dealership and was told that the mechanic on hearing the engine start up, knew the problem was in the timing chains as he has seen that problem before. Service dealer gave three options, one was for around $3000 they would replace timing chains, guides, and tensioner, but with no guarantee as the timing chain problem could have caused other damage. The other two options were to replace the engine. This 2004 Ford explorer we had bought brand new, and only had somewhere around 65k miles. If you were to goggle some key words like ( Ford 2004 v6 timing chain guide tensioner) you will find that this is a common problem caused by a bad design with the timing chain tensioner which looses pressure and allow the timing chain s to jump teeth. My wife called Ford headquarters today, and they treated it like this was the first time they have ever heard of that, although they assured her that they no longer make that style of engine. Ford knows very well about this bad timing chain tensioner design, and basically when that happened on the highway we could have easily got into a bad accident. This style of engine should be recalled and fixed at Ford’s expense, I am disappointed as we treated this explorer with tlc, and now we are told the engine is junk.
I have a 1999 for Explorer Sport (2 door) and in February of 2011 the door on the passenger side locked and as not been able to be open since then. I called Ford motor company about it, thinking that it would be a safety concern if in a wreck and a passenger could open the passenger door. Was told not a safety concern and to get it fix I would have to pay for it. I don't understand how a company can think that a door on a vehicle not opening is not a safety concern.
The "blend door actuator" that came with the vehicle is defective and has been replaced with a new improved part (f87z-18471-da) at the customer expense. The old part when it fails causes a safety issues because you can not defrost the front window until the part is replaced. This should be a "recall" that Ford should have to pay for. I have done some looked into the issue and many vehicles (1998 Ford explorer) have had this same failure.
The apparatus that holds my spare tire in place, beneath my 1999 Ford explorer sls broke while I was driving. This caused the spare tire to fall out from under my SUV,onto the road. Thankfully, I wasn't on a busy 65 mph highway when it happened. Otherwise, a serious accident involving vehicles behind me, could have occurred.
The ball joints on my vehicle needed to be replaced, but I think other owners should be aware of this issue due to safety concerns. Friends and family members of similar Ford vehicle also needed to replace their ball joints, some as early as 40,000 miles. Some mechanics in the area say this is a common issue in Ford trucks and suvs, but that many people don't know to have them checked.
About 3 weeks ago, after parking my 1999 Ford explorer (VIN 1fmyu22x8xub02612, purchased from hall Ford, newport news, va on December 16, 1998), I accidentally dropped the keys between the drivers seat and center console. There is adequate room to slip ones hand between the two, so I did so in order to retrieve the keys. As I was pulling my hand back up, I found that the horizontal piece of plastic about half way down the side of the console was razor-sharp, and had caused a significant amount of injury to my right hand (photo available upon request). In addition to the physical disfigurement, I was in pain for several days, and had to use antibiotics to beat back a resulting secondary infection from the wound.
This is part of a Ford "owner notification program 00m12" about a commonly known problem with my vehicle which Ford refuses to fix. Dt.
