The transmission will not upshift from low gear, from take off for awhile and give me the wrench sign, also will cut off the cruse control if being used or will not allow me to use it. After taking the vehicle to a transmission shop it was diagnosed to a faulty speed sensor, and was told that Ford put out a safety recall on this problem because the speed sensor has down shifted to low at highway speeds locking the rear drive up and causing accidents. I have check my vehicle recalls and did not find this recall on this. I have investigated this on the internet and found that there was indeed a recall on this problem. Why would my vehicle not be recalled to replace this defective speed sensor? before a major accident happens.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. When the vehicle was engaged in park, the key became stuck inside the ignition. The contact mentioned that he manually pushed a pin in the shifter to remove the key. The contact also mentioned that the gear was able to be removed out of park without the key being in the ignition. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000.
I was driving Friday afternoon after work was over got home an parked it went to leave to go to the store an it would not go into drive or reverse this is the second time it happened the first time was the output speed sensor I replaced it an it drove perfectly fine I had it serviced for oil an transmission fluid flush after that it drove fine for about a week an as I described in the beginning it happened again same symptoms o/d flashing wouldn't go into drive or reverse so I replaced the sensor again this time it still did not go into drive or reverse I had to have it towed to the transmission shop an they told me that the transmission was shot it has 212000 on it an Ford knows these go out an the transmission shop I go to said they replace 12 every moth cause this is common with Ford vehicles so why doe Ford not cover this an why are there no recalls on this in my opinion this is a complete joke on Ford now I have to spend 2400 on replacing the entire transmission which I think Ford should be replacing it for free knowing damn well that the transmissions go out in them forcing the owner to pay the price for new one it's absolutely absurd Ford needs to get there head out of there ass an replace these for free for the amount of money people actually spend on fixing there cars oil changes transmission fluid flushes and tires that we have to buy every year.

When I finally got to drive my truck home I noticed the transmission had a severe issue. When I turned a corner my tires rubbed badly on some other part to the trucks parts and the driver seat has a medal rod that jabs me in the back that's coming thru the fabric now my battery has leaked acid every where in the battery compartment and surrounding areas.
Vehicle was stationary put the key and the shift lever won't move into any gear and also now I can't remove the key. I was park in front of a shool.

Now the truck will not move when shifted into drive or reverse. I only had in 2nd gear this is a automatic transmission. Fluid is still okay. What is wrong with this truck?. Milage is 123242.

I brought my '07 sportrac with 73,800 miles to the Ford dealer to troubleshoot a check engine light and the wrench light, which it displayed for a few minutes and disappeared. After some troubleshooting 2 hrs later, the guy came out and gave me some bad news. I will need to repair my transmission or replace it. He did tell me a new transmission would not be from Ford since they don't make those anymore and would be from another maker. The above lights started showing this winter as it got colder and that's when I started to noticed rough idling with the rpm indicator spiking for a few minutes then it would go back to a normal reading. I guess some transmission part was acting up at that point. It also seem like if I let it warm up during startup a few minutes, I usually don't see it rpm spike. The dealer told me during their checks there was yet another coolant leak but apparently it wasn't serious enough to note in the final paperwork. I told him I needed to think about the transmission repairs or replacement. I paid for the diagnostics ($100) and got my Ford estimates.
Parked vehicle. Turned off ignition. Key would not release from the ignition. Cycled the auto shift lever to make sure in park. At this point noted that I could shift out of park without my foot being on the brake. Very dangerous. I was able to remove the key by pulling the ignition fuse. I pulled the fuse and removed the key. Reinstalled the fuse. Was still able to shift out of park without my foot on the brake. I left the car sitting for a while and noted that the battery had completely drained down. I was able to jump the car off to start it. If I leave the ignition fuse in, the battery will completely drain down again.

My Ford Explorer Sport Trac with an automatic transmission has a common problem that has plagued many explorers, sport trac's, and rangers. A youtube video explains the problem, "uploaded on Dec 7, 2011 - Ford used the 5r55e in many rear and 4 wheel drive applications. It is a good transmission but is susceptible to the valve body gasket "blowing out. " the symptom of this in our vehicle was that the transmission missed second gear under acceleration but found a higher gear when we let off the gas pedal. " this happens to me daily, and is a traffic hazard as the vehicle is unable to accelerate as it should. Ford published a TSB(technical service bulletin) on 03-22-10 acknowledging this problem. It is a dangerous occurrence in most vehicles where the valve body separator plate does not work as it should. When I took my vehicle to the dealer, they did not acknowledge the problem but wanted to charge over $4,000 for a new transmission. This is clearly a design flaw and should be addressed to all owners. Please check all complaints regarding Ford's automatic transmissions, the 5r55e and help us owners get a reasonably priced correction, before accidents occur. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The contact stated that while driving, the transmission exhibited a loud squeaking sound. The vehicle then became resistant to acceleration attempts and would no longer move. The contact stated that the engine continued to operate but the vehicle would not shift into driver or reverse. The vehicle had not been taken to a dealer or mechanic for diagnosis. The failure and current mileages were unknown.
Radiator started leaking at bottom gasket /o ring seal of tank. Also interior light goes off and on when hit bumps. Found it is tied into the ignition switch. If light comes on after hitting bump all I have to do is giggle the ignition switch to get it to go back off.
Ford sports trac 07, 8 cylinder. Automatic, 44000. It began around 20000. When one comes to a stop, the 4 wheel drive or transmission kicks in and the vehicle jumps and slams into gear. It appears to be getting worse the more I drive it. Also, a lot of blind spots.
Od light flashing, rebuilds transmision and nothing change, I see a lot of complains about this problems on explorers, rangers and mustangs.
