Put kids in car seats. Got in driver's seat and closed door and side airbags deployed. Ford is acting like this is the first time it's ever happened but I see lots of complaints about it online. Nothing done, so far. Waiting to see if it is covered on insurance. Local Ford dealership believes vehicle is totaled because they cannot put air bags back in and guarantee safety afterwards.

I was leaving the store parking lot. I started the car, pressed the break, put the vehicle in drive and the passenger side airbag deployed. This is the second time this has happened since the first incident in September 2014. The vehicle was not hit or bumped in any way. I was not backing out, I was in drive to pull out of the space.

I was picking my daughter up from school. We got into the car put our seatbelts on I started the vehicle and put it in gear. I picked my foot up and moved to the gas when I noticed a car coming up from beside me and then I pressed the brake and the passenger side airbag deployed cracking the windshield and pulling the dash cover away from the radio and air vent. We called Ford motor and we were told to take it to a dealership to be examined. Ford customer care has left messages at our home number when we return the calls we ask them to call our cell numbers and they will not. I think the do not want to talk to us. A week later the dealership called and said that Ford motor would pay for the diagnostic but would not pay for the repairs because the car is out of warranty. That the airbag failing is no different then having to change out the brakes from wear and tear. We were not aware that a safety feature had an expiration date. I was to the understanding that a safety feature should last the lift time of the vehicle. Because of this I am worried about driving any cars with airbags. We were not asking Ford motor for anything additional but to just repair the car and we can never talk to anyone at the company.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The contact was driving 35 mph when the front side curtain air bags independently deployed followed by a loud, unusual noise. The front driver and passenger seat belts became inoperable after the air bags deployment. The dealer advised that the air bags deployed because the vehicle detected a crash. The contact was not involved in a crash and there was no external damage to the vehicle to indicate that the air bags should have deployed. The dealer was unable to provide a reason as to why the air bags deployed. The contact was in the process of notifying the manufacturer of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000. On April 12, 2008 my boyfriend and I spent the morning at his sisters house for easter. We drove the truck to her house that morning and even made a stop at the grocery store on the way with no issues. That evening around 6 we had returned home for a while and decided to go out again. The truck was parked in the driveway with the motor running. My boyfriend was sitting in the drivers seat and I was standing in the passenger side doorway about to get into the vehicle. We were talking and he shut the driver side door, normally. When he did so the side airbags on both sides of the truck deployed. He was hit in the face and has since had a bad earache and headache. I was hit in my left arm causing brush burns, swollen and tenderness and bruising. We were unsure of how to get the airbags to shrink back so in an angry move my boyfriend simply cut them down so we could still use the vehicle. I contacted a Ford dealership near my house and was told that they could look at the vehicle but I had no more warranty available. I then contacted Ford motor company and was told that my complaint was being sent to a review board and I would hear from them in writing in 14 business days! at this point nothing has been done to correct the failure and I am very frustrated with the lack of help I am getting.

Ford sport trac explorer was t boned on the passenger side of the truck. The truck spun and rolled hard onto the drivers side. No passengers were in the truck at the time and would explain why the passenger side air bags did not deploy, due to the subsequent roll onto the drivers side and the extent of the damage to the drivers side as a result of the rollover I don't understand why the side impact airbags failed to deploy on the drivers side. The truck is a write-off per my insurance company. I contacted Ford customer relations about my concerns and seeking reassurance that this was not a isolated problem or indeed an issue that would go unnoticed. While the customer relations person was sympathetic she could offer no more help other than to advise me to contact my local Ford dealer. I spoke with Ford dealer, service manager and he said he was not aware of problems concerning the airbags. The truck is currently in the possession of my allstate insurance company in a yard somewhere in memphis TN.

Closed driver side door, while in vehicle, and curtain air bags deployed.
Slammed driver side door of '05 Ford sport trac side air bags deployed no repair has been done as yet.
Side impact on drivers door @ 20 mph, side airbags failed to deploy; yet all airbags on the vehicle(concorde) hitting me deployed. Ford say nothing is wrong. . . .
The side air bags (both) deployed for no apparent reason while I was driving down the road at approximately 30 mph. My vehicle is a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. (4 door pickup). The vehicle was returned to a Ford dealer for repair and initially they said it would be a warranty repair but called back a week later indicating that Ford would not warrant the repairs and the cost to me would be $2300 to $2500. I am now concerned that this could reoccur in the future and perhaps with my grand children or dog in the vehicle with a hand or head out of the window. The explosive force of the deployment has me concerned about ever driving the vehicle again not to mention the unwarranted expense and the destructive nature of the deployment. It destroyed the interior of the vehicle including my driver side seat belt (now non op and being replaced at my expense) headliner, a pillar moldings, c pillar molding etc. I have to wonder if this is a common problem with this vehicle or unique to mine. I'm contemplating a trade in for a Toyota. Any insight you can offer would be appreciated.
Approximately one year ago, while my vehicle was parked, and running outside of my home, I shut the driver side door, and the side impact airbags deployed. The driver side door was shut with no more force than normal, however I was later told by the Ford service dept. That even a slam should not have caused this deployment. I opted to drive the vehicle, and did not go to Ford, however now realized I should have, as the vehicle was then in it's last miles of my warranty. I am now concerned that the multiple problems I have had with my driver side and passenger side seatbelts may be associated or have caused the default of my side airbags, as the driver seat belt was replaced approximately 3 times just prior to the airbags deploying. I am very dissatisfied by the response Ford provided, however even if I had placed a complaint during the warranty period, according to other filed complaints regarding the same issue which I read, it may still have not been covered by Ford. I am just now contemplating either trading the vehicle in, or replacing the airbag equipment required to meet safety regulations, as up to this point the vehicle has been operational without replacement, after all, with my malfunction and others noted on the site, and by the Ford service dept, I feel they are more a liability than a protective element. It is a disturbing day, when Ford does not stand behind it's safety commitment, especially when there was no cause , prior accident, or impact to have accounted for this sudden deployment.
We had just left a gas station and were on our way to dinner when our side-curtain airbags deployed for no reason. We did not hit any potholes or large bumps, and there was no collision to cause the deployment. My husband, the driver, managed not to swerve and hit anyone or anything before pulling off the road into a parking lot. We experienced headaches, neck muscle soreness and tinnitus immediately after and for the following day. Ford roadside assistance called a tow truck for us, and took it to the dealership from where we purchased it. We are waiting to hear the cause of this inadvertent deployment.
While driving, the passenger side and driver side air bags unexpectedly deployed. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the mechanic could not duplicate the problem. The consumer received a call from the engineering department who informed the consumer the air bag deployed because the restraint module had received a signal from the crash sensors indicating an excessive lateral force that exceeded the threshold of its design for deployment.
