Seven problems related to seats have been reported for the 1996 Ford F-150. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
About three minutes after I parked and shut off the truck in the driveway, I heard a loud explosion, stepped outside and saw flames shooting out from under the hood accompanied by billowing smoke. The fire lasted 15-20 minutes, went through the firewall, entered and melted down the cab. During this period of time, I was attempting to put out the fire in order to prevent it from spreading to the garage and the propane tank. As a result, I had to be treated for moderate smoke inhalation by the first responders on the scene. The truck was part of the 2005 recall concerning the leaking brake fluid and its corrosion of the electrical systems. I brought this truck to copper country Ford in order for them to perform the necessary repairs to comply with the recall notice, which, to the best of my knowledge, was performed.
Bolt that holds the seat in an upright position broke and cause the seat to recline all the way.
Bench and split seats are very loose, and they rattle. Consumer feels seat may snap back at anytime. Consumers having same problem as mentioned in recall 96 e 010 000.
Drivers seat sub-assembly failed (track portion) this could have been very serious if I were on the highway driving at highway speeds. I strongly suggest Ford look into this matter. The failed part is at the dealer that replaced it.
Vehicle's side bench seat caught on fire after a water bottle sat for 5 minutes, apparently the reflection through the window and glass caused the cloth material to catch on fire.
The construction of the rear bucket seat is not properly manufactured. When a child is placed in the seat belt the child's head touches the rear window. Dealer has not been contacted.
The "captain's" chair in vehicle began to move back and forth freely, due to a crack in the metal support.
