Four problems related to engine head gasket failure have been reported for the 1998 Ford F-150. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Head gasket failure.
Engine hard to start,smoked after it did, gasket failure cylinder filled with coolant causing connecting rod to bend or break. Engine needs to be replaced.
Catatrophic engine failure at 52000 miles. Ford dealership admitted there was a problem similar to 3. 8l engine TSB notice. On disassembly by professional garage they indicated head gasket failure as causing the connecting rod bearing to fail, (similar to 3. 8l failures).
Consumer stated the head gasket failed with no warning.
