Steering Wheel problems of the 1998 Ford F-150

Seven problems related to steering wheel have been reported for the 1998 Ford F-150. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Steering Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2011

Left rear spring hanger broke and came lose from frame and went up hitting the truck bed underside. This part holds the rear end in place.

2 Steering Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2002

Ea 02 001/steering column: steering wheel locked up while making a left turn. The steering column was replaced . The old parts are available for analysis. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

3 Steering Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2000

Steering wheel became completely useless when the steering shaft separated, causing the vehicle to jump the curb narrowly missing a large tree and bridge abutment.

4 Steering Wheel problem

5 Steering Wheel problem

Failure Date: 10/01/1998

Front end vibrates/shakes at speeds up to 60 mph. Also, replaced steering shaft.

6 Steering Wheel problem

Failure Date: 07/18/1998

When turning steering wheel there is a clunck that one can feel in steering wheel, seems loose. Dealer contacted four times, states nothing is wrong. Dealer cannot duplicate the problem.

7 Steering Wheel problem

Intermittently when making a turn steering wheel becomes irratic and drifts. Dealer has inspected and repaired vehicle several times, but problem still exists. Steering gear and pitman arm were replaced for steering wheel problem.
