Brakes completely failed. No brake pedal. Cruise control release on master cylinder broke open. Luckily it was in a parking lot, not on the highway. Vehicle had no brakes whatso ever.
Brake switch caught on fire, burn master cylinder reservoir and wires.
Tl - the driver owns a 2001 Ford f150 super crew. While the vehicle was park and unoccupied the vehicle burned due to the master cylinder safety switch. A police report was filed. Two other vehicles and two exterior garages were damaged. The Ford f150 and another vehicle was totaled. The failure and current mileage was unknown.
Vehicle was parked inside of parking lot and it caught on fire. The fire department was called to extinguish the fire. No injuries reported. Vehicle was towed and totaled by the insurance company. The fire was started due to the master cylinder. Smoke was noticed coming from the hood and flames were coming from the driver's side front wheel housing.
While driving in stop and go traffic in southern cal. The truck in front of me stopped suddenly. When I pushed on my brake pedal it went all the way to the floor. The only thing that stopped me was the truck in front of me. This break pedal thing happened once before but without an accident. During the time of the accident my speed was about 20mph in dry conditions. I have a 2001 Ford F-150, 4. 2 v-6 , super cab, 4x2, and auto, with 50k miles. I have replaced my master cylinder hoping this will correct the problem. I saved the old cylinder and would be happy to send it to you all for inspection. I took it apart myself and found four small scratches on the housing.
When shutting vehicle off master cylinder caught on fire.
Nar 1/29/2003. The consumer steered abruptly toward the left lane, struck the guard rail with the left front end of the vehicle and consequently the vehicle rolled over. Aacording to the police report the cap to the master cylinder was missing and there was evidence of brake fluid in the brake lines and fluid was found leaking from the right rear tire assembly which was disengaged from the vehicle.
