5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2019

My 2001 Ford f150 harley davidson truck has accelerated on it's own while I drove into a parking spot. Fortunately there was a parking cement piece that stopped my truck from hitting a wall. There seems to be no recalls on my vehicle for this issue based on the VIN. It doesn't make sense. I believe that this is a safety hazard.

Driver started truck ,put it in reverse and experienced unintended acceleration. Witnesses observed rear tires spinning, heard engine revving up and down and brake lights on. Truck struck a stone wall, bounced off and continued to accelerate until it hit another parked car, destroying both vehicles. Driver transported to a local hospital. Incident occurred at the city hall in middlesboro, kentucky. Report taken by the middlesboro police department.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2016

The truck was parked after being driven 2 miles. It had started to smoke and next thing I know it was on fire. I called the fire department, while my 15 y/o son put out fire with a fire extinguisher. It was said to be a electrical fire. A friend that drives tow trucks came by to look at it and said it had a recall on it where it burned. It burned the master cylinder and fire department said it was the wiring under that, that caused the fire. I did some research and found out that there was a recall. So I contacted the Ford company and made a claim with them on the following Thursday after fire. I was told I should have a response from them in 15 business days, here it is 6 1/2 weeks later and nothing. Not a letter, not a phone call, nothing. I call and get tld there has not been anything done. I just want my truck fixed. I want to know if the Ford company will repair it or if I need to fix it myself. My husband is on dialysis and has multiple health issues and this was our only running vehicle until this happened. Please help.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2016

While driving into town at 65 mph the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably I applied my brake and it resumed to 65 for about 2 seconds then accelerated again. I tried the brakes again and they went to the floor. In order to stop I pushed the gear shift into park forcibly. The truck went into a spin and crashed into a concrete barrier. .

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2016

Both rear doors will not open. It would be very dangereous if something happened and passengers could not get out safely.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2016

There has been no incident as yet but the frame of this vehicle has such extreme corrosion that certified mechanics are reluctant to work on this vehicle since they are concerned about a failure occurring at connection point where the steering and suspension connects to the frame of the vehicle. Their concern is a loss of control of the vehicle if any of the steering or suspension connection points fail due to the severely corroded frame. This is not surface corrosion, the metal is flaked and separated and it is the entire frame of the vehicle. I had just spent $4,000 to replace the entire exhaust system from the exhaust manifold back to the tail pipe and the mechanic is warning me about the safety of the suspension and steering components because of the extreme corrosion. The vehicle only has 77, 000 original miles and has never been in severe weather conditions.

I have a 2001 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 super crew just hit 100000 miles and my frame snapped in half while driving with my wife and four kids in the car was stopped at a light when turn green went to take off and it snapped in half the state I live in it needs to be scraped because they will not inspect a welded frame I am seriously disappointed this needs to be felt with a 11 year old truck frame should not brake like this I have a 89 Ford F-150 n it's frame is is in slit better condition than this I am not happy.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2015

All I know is I was at a neighbors for around 1 1/2 hours and we hear a loud boom. We ran out side and my truck hood was on fire, it burned everything visible on top of the motor and toward the driver firewall . It busted the driver side tire and completely burned everything visible under the hood. The dash components as far as the eye can see are not bad, unknown of internal damage. I'm not sure what caused the problem. I did go to the recall site to see if there may have been something I did find this control switch for speed recall and not sure if it applies to mine. Even though it brought it up when I entered my VIN #. I did receive a recall on the gas tank straps but did not replace them they were in great shape. But I did not receive on on this. I do have pictures if you need them. Thanks.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

I had my truck in park I proceeded to get into the truck with my right leg on the running board left leg on the ground, I grabbed the steering wheel to pull myself inside of the truck and it popped from park to reverse and proceeded to drag me down the hill in reverse for roughly 45 feet. I tried to get away from it and could not, and it ran over my two legs in the thigh areas. After I was taken to the er.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2014

Vehicle was parked and motor was off. Vehicle catch on fire and fire departments had to go turn it off but we could not save anything from this truck it got very damaged.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2013

I keep having major issues with my truck ejecting spark plugs from the engine which is breaking not only my spark plugs but my coil pack as well. This is rediculious. The first time I was at a light at a dead stop when I hear a loud banging noise like something exploded then my truck started running rough and had to get it towed. It stranded us 45 minutes from home. The second time was two days ago on March 18 I was driving through a drive thru again at a dead stop and heard a loud noise and had the same issue. Again my spark plug was ejected and coil pack broken. The first time was in cylinder 1 and was repaired then one month later the next time cylinder 2 ejected. 5 minutes after it was repaired and had new plug and coil pack it again ejected. Im upset because I can no longer drive my truck. If Ford doesnt fix this I willnever purchase another Ford. Now it is useless sitting in my garage takin up space.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2009

The contact owns a 2001 Ford f150. While driving 30 mph the cable that holds the spare tire fractured. As a consequence a component under the vehicle was bent, and the spare tire separated from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and he was advised that he ineligible for a free remedy because the warranty expired. The failure mileage 172,000.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2002

F150 lariat with tow package purchased new. Tires on the vehicle were goodrich passenger tires with proper weight rating. However, when pulling a 24 ft. Travel trailer; the truck and trailer would aggressively sway when hit with light breeze or passing vehicles. Nearly lost control of vehicle several times. Tested all hitch/trailer/center of gravity/weight aspects and all tested okay. Tested pulling trailer at low speed with no wind/other vehicles. Discovered the smallest steering input caused severe lateral sway with oscillations becoming stronger without corrective action. The tires, although rated to carry over 2,000 lbs. , do not have the sidewall strength to withstand the lateral movements associated with pulling a small travel trailer. I have since replaced these new passenger tires with light truck tires and found that the dangerous sway has been eliminated. I have invested over $850 in new tires in order to ensure the safety of my family and I am very concerned that other Ford truck owners might experience a serious collision if they use their truck and towing package to pull a travel trailer if their truck is only equipped with passenger tires. I have contacted the Ford dealership, who referred me to mr. Paul berardi, a Ford field engineer. Mr. Berardi (602-692-6479) has not yet responded to my concerns as of this writing. I contacted him on 3/6/02. A copy of my original letter to the dealership, which was forwarded by them to mr. Berardi, is available to ntsa.
