7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2019

Spark plug blowout while driving on a city street. Common problem with 4. 6l 2v triton engines from my search results. Ford should be responsible for fixing the issue as there is only a few threads holding the spark plug in the engine heads.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2017

On December 15, 2017, while driving on i35 in heavy traffic in fort worth, texas, the f150 autonomously accelerated to maximum rpm and would not slow down. The cruise control was not on. We were forced to ride the breaks hard until we were able to exit the freeway, put the vehicle in neutral and break to a stop. We turned the vehicle off and restarted. The vehicle still went to maximum rpms so we shut down the vehicle again. Five minutes later we restarted the vehicle and the engine performed normally. We drove it immediately to our local auto repair shop. The local auto repair center was not able to replicate the issue and the vehicle shows no fault codes. Upon searching the internet, we discovered no open recalls on this vehicle and we are not the only Ford customers to experience this issue.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2017

2009 Ford f150 with 146,000 miles needed to have engine replaced due to scored cams. It appears this has been a common problem with the 5. 4 engines. We are one-time owners of this vehicle and have great maintenance records. I believe a recall should be made for this.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2017

At less than 63,000 miles, my Ford F-150 5. 4 liter engine is failing. I just returned from the dealership earlier today with over $2800 worth of repair estimates; however, the vehicle shook and rattled when idling at a stop light and appeared to be overheating. Vehicle is garage kept, gets regular oil changes and maintenance, and is driven mainly on highways. I do not pull anything (boats, campers, etc. ). Internet forums are loaded with complains about this engine and all surround the cam phasers and local engine parts failing. Ford has no recall and will do nothing! I have a case in their system as of this evening and would like the government to start issuing guidance to consumers and get a recall process underway. Issue was first noticed when I tried to start the truck one night in mid-June. I was finally able to get an appointment in mid-July to get this diagnosis.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2017

Spark plug blows out of heads at 80774 miles prior to first tune up interval. Could of caused a engine fire.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2017

Vehile has/shut down on 6 or 7 separate occasions while sitting in a parking lot or at a stop lights the steering also locked up while trying to turn left . I have taken it to several but the only thing they tell I need a new engine ,. Which we cannot afford, we got it serviced on time and took care of it thinking we would have it for many years. Now it is garbage I have always defended Ford but now am so upset don't know what we will do .

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2016

Spark plugs can not be removed due to most breaking. Most of the spark plugs are frozen and break when you try to remove. Ford recommends replacing plugs at 100000 miles.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2016

On now 4 occasions, I have had an accelerator stuck in wide open condition. On 3 of them, it involved passing at highway speeds, and on the latest (10/22/16), it happened on a hard acceleration in city conditions while accelerating from slow to faster speed. In each event, pressing on the brake did hold back speed, but full acceleration resumed if brake was released at all. Very lucky to have avoided accident / death!.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2016

My truck has only 30,000 miles on it. While driving it, the 5. 4 liter engine started knocking severely and would not power the vehicle. I managed to avoid a major accident and get it pulled over to the side of the freeway. I had fortunately purchased the extended warranty and took it to the dealer. When I got it to the dealer, all the service writers acknowledged that the 5. 4 has a serious problem. The mechanic examined it and stated that it was a cam phaser issue. Here is the problem: Ford knows that the 5. 4 liter engine has this problem and will not acknowledge it because there are 1,000s of these on the road and they do not want to pay to fix them. That is why they discontinued the engine. What is really bad, is that the NHTSA knows about it as well. Ford needs to fix these trucks before someone gets hurt. I barely got the truck pulled over on the southern California 405 freeway! I will never buy a Ford product again. I am going back to my trusted Toyota brand!.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2015

Coming home, something let lose under the hood and was tinking. Ended up having it towed home where we found out the spark plug ejected. Called the dealership as I just bought my truck 2 months ago, they couldn't do anything. Called Ford corp they wouldn't give me any information. After doing research I found this was a tbs. I called a Ford dealer to see what to do. He told me it would have to be fixed at my expense. Took it to a garage where they figured the spark plug ejected and ruined a few other parts that needed to be replaced. After a week later I have my truck back. Not sure how much it cost yet, the bill is in the mail once he figures it out!.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

While driving in a parking lot at speed below 5 mph, the engine began to shake and chatter. The sound and vibration went away at speeds above 5 mph. I was able to duplicate the problem repeatedly. The local dealer said it was the cam phaser, and they needed to be replaced. This 2009 truck was assembled in November of 2008. Truck was purchased used with 36000 miles in November of 2014. Cam phasers replaced at 43800 miles.

Spark plug blowout in rush hour traffic.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2014

Engine began to shake at 65mph. Pulled over and engine was shot. Possible cam phasers.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2014

After accelerating to pass on the highway (65 mph to 70 mph), the truck remained going 70 mph when accelerator released. Vehicle could be slowed with difficulty by applying brakes, but would resume speed when brakes released. Fortunately, traffic was light. Cruise control was not being used at time of incident. Attempted to resolve issue for approximately 4 miles/minutes at highway speeds (determined accelerator not stuck on floor mat, engaged and disengaged cruise control, braked repeatedly while making sure I was also not hitting the accelerator). Eventually slowed vehicle to approximately 10 mph with extreme braking on an uphill incline, at which point vehicle would not slow any further. Took truck out of gear and shut off engine (vehicle stopped). Had towed to service department of Ford dealer who "could not reproduce problem" but replaced electric throttle body assembly and cleared/reprogrammed computer. When asked if incidents such as these are reported to Ford for their database, the service representative said no, that they had no means to do so.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2014

Approaching an yellow light at approximately 35 mph I hit the gas pedal hard for passing gear. The accelerator stuck, the engine roaring, I had to step as hard as possible to stop the truck so I would not hit the vehicle in front of me. Engine would not stop accelerating forcing me to turn off the truck. Shocked, I sat in traffic for a moment before I restarted the engine, but it immediately went to full speed again, forcing me to again turn off the engine. My friend climbed out and pushed me out of traffic. After sitting in a parking lot for about 5 minutes I again started the engine and it started normally.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2012

While driving the vehicle engine lost all power and when I pulled over to the side of the road the engine died. Tried restarting the engine multiple times, and it would start but only run for a few seconds and then die. Had it towed to the local Ford dealer and they could not replicate the problem. Have had the same issue 4 more times since then. Vehicle engine dies but the last few times has restarted. Took it into the local Ford dealer again and again they could not replicate the problem.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2011

I experienced unintended acceleration while backing up. I had just started the engine and placed it in reverse and then tapped the accelerator lightly to start moving. The vehicle then started to accelerate rapidly backwards. Luckily my foot was off the accelerator for I was in a school parking lot and on a slight incline so I was riding the brake lightly. I had my right foot fully on the brake pedal and could barely keep it slowed. I placed the engine in neutral and the tach showed a steady 4000 rpm, again my foot was still off the accelerator. I then turned off the engine and restarted and all seem normal. I took it to the dealer and they could not duplicate or show any computer code errors.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the engine warning light was intermittently illuminated. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds and making sharp turns, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road and depressed the brake pedal until the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while making sharp turns and while coming to a stop at traffic lights. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2009

I was on the highway and when I attempted to pass a vehicle, when I floored the gas pedal the truck lost all power for 3 to 5 seconds almost causing an accident. It has been that way from the day I bought it until present. When I questioned the dealer on the lose of power problem I was told nothing can be done about it because it is a normal issue with fly by wire accelerator.
