general problems of the 2011 Ford F-150 - part 2

My vehicle is experiencing the same issues that were identified under recall 16v-248 with the exact same year, make and model vehicle. Several times, while driving at high speeds, the vehicle will display a wrench logo (mil) and the vehicle will either downshift to 1st gear or completely lose all power to the pedal. After turning the ignition off and back on, for a period of time the vehicle will only move in 1st gear, will not downshift and the speedometer will not move. The check engine light will illuminate for a period of a few days and will without reason turn back off until the downshifting happens again.

Well known 6r80 transmission molded lead frame defective, causing unexpected and dangerous downshift/loss of power, instrument gauges malfunction and both wrench light and engine light come on. Ford somehow avoided recall to save millions, instead issuing customer satisfaction program 19n01, however replacement part is in short supply and dealerships weren't taking appointments then due to covid pandemic. Following up recently with Ford dealer since symptoms have worsened, apparently program is now expired and they won't fix. We were nearly rear-ended twice attempting to merge onto freeway, so took it to a reputable local former Ford tech, but he can't obtain the part, which is back ordered everywhere, yet apparently Ford has. Putting everyone on notice and hoping it doesn't take a serious accident/avoidable lawsuit for Ford to do the right thing. Pls advise accordingly. Thank you. Desperate in nv. . .

The vehicle was being driven with the cruise control set. Upon approaching an intersection on a four lane divided roadway I tapped the brakes to deactivate the cruise control. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal the cruise control did not disengage but the vehicle accelerated instead. I released pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle continued at the cruise control set speed. I again applied pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle again accelerated. To avoid striking stopped traffic I moved into the right turn lane with the vehicle continuing to accelerate as I attempted to brake the vehicle. Upon entering the intersection my vehicle struck another pickup truck broadside. I believe speed at the point of impact was 60 plus miles per hour. My vehicle then continued on and struck two utility poles. Both vehicles were damaged beyond repair. There appears to be a problem with the speed control system as it would not disengage but caused the vehicle to accelerate. Googling the same problem with other Ford F-150's I found several reports of the exact problem. I ordered the vehicle new and it was maintained by the Ford dealership. There were no known problems. Mileage is 31,900. At this time the vehicle has not been inspected for a cause but is available for inspection. The vehicle is in the towing company lot. This accident could have very easily resulted in fatalities. This accident should have never happened!!!.

I was driving with the cruise control engaged set at 60 mph. Approached an intersection with traffic light with traffic stopped in both westbound lanes. Tapped the brake to deactivate the cruise control. The cruise control did not turn off but instead tapping the brake caused the truck to accelerate. Released the brake pressure and reapplied brake pressure. This action again caused the truck to accelerate. To avoid hitting stopped traffic I moved to the right hand turn lane which was free of traffic. The truck continued to accelerate as I applied brake pressure. As my truck entered the intersection a collision occurred with a northbound vehicle. The collision severely damaged my vehicle and the struck vehicle with injuries to myself and the other driver. Crash speed had to be over 60 mph. This was all captured by a traffic camera. My F-150 had 31,900 on the odometer. It has been dealership maintained since new and has no known defects other than this incident. No lights, no warnings. The truck has not been inspected since the incident. The truck has heavy damage. This incident could have easily caused the deaths of myself and the other driver. Searches online have turned up the same complaints from other F-150 owners. I have photos on my email but can not get them loaded to this form. You need to see them!.

11 may 2022: turned right into four lane traffic and accelerated. Truck refused to shift out of first gear. I had to make the first turn I could to get out of traffic. Turned truck off and re-started engine. Problem was resolved. Wednesday 18 may: driving west on hwy 7 at about 65 mph. Truck lurched slightly and all speed/distance indicators on dash went blank. A single wrench was displayed. Speedometer dropped to zero mph. Truck seemed to drive just fine so I limped to a gas station a mile away. There I shut the truck off again and restarted the engine. Engine ran fine but no odometer readings still. Being 15 miles from the next town I decided to continue to drive slow. Shifting was normal and truck ran fine just no speedometer. I drove straight to the first auto parts store (advanced auto) who read the fault code for me. It was something like failed speed transmitter. Driving home that evening the truck seemed fine again. Normal start all displays working no wrench showing. I was driving 55 slowed to 45 for a speed zone. Then coasted to a stop for the red light. When the light turned green I drove. Instead of shifting up the truck stayed in first and even when I lifted my foot from the gas pedal the truck continued to accelerate to over 40 mph. I had to apply the brake to stop the acceleration. This was on hwy 7 four lanes of traffic. I had to get pulled off the road and re-start the truck again. The truck is now parked. All quotes I have to 'fix' this are beyond my ability to pay. And no-one (even the Ford dealer) will warranty any results other than a new sender unit and not any 'un-forseen' issues later.

While driving, the transmission will randomly down shift into 1st gear and the speedometer will die. The truck flashes a “wrench” icon. There is no pattern, the issue is intermittent. When the speedometer dies, the transmission will only shift in “manual” mode, but will not shift above 3rd gear. The check engine light illuminates and throws codes p0720 and p0722. This indicates an output speed shaft sensor failure. Ford released a customer satisfaction program 19n01 for this issue and offers full repairs. However the repairs were only valid if the truck was less than 10 years old or less than 150,000. My truck is now 11 years old (the issue first was present in may 2022) but I only have 73,000 miles. Ford is unwilling to help because I am outside the warranty by a few months. This is a definite safety concern because I’ve been driving on the freeway at 75 mph in 6th gear only for the transmission to downshift to 1st gear, which causes a violent skid and potential rollover and accident. I live in a severe wintery area, and this issue makes the truck undriveable in the snow and ice. I would like for Ford to run a diagnostic scan, and replace the required components based off their previous csp. Or, consider this a safety recall and allow me to trade my truck in with no penalties.

Car downshifted at higher rate of speed causing engine to rev and transmission grind. Speedometer went out wheels locked. Felt like I got hit from behind.

Vehicle speedometer stopped working, the total mileage indicator read all dashes “- - - - - -“ and the transmission was shifting to the wrong gear. For example from a stop the truck would immediately be in fifth gear. The yellow wrench indicator came on briefly and then went away. I turned the truck off then on again and the problem went away and I made it home. Today I took the car to get the safety recall completed, and on my way home the car speedometer stopped working again and I was not able to accelerate while I was making a left turn. This left me stranded in the middle of the intersection and I had to restart the car and the problem went away. I asked the dealer if they would look into the lead frame extended warranty and they would not honor the coverage because I am at 155,000 miles and the coverage ends at 150,000 miles and because it is a 10 year coverage but my car was manufactured 10 years and 3 months ago. The recall did not fix my issue and the vehicle is not safe to drive. The issue is however intermittent and I am a college student who must commute 1hour away to attend the university. I don’t feel safe driving the vehicle, there was one point when the car down shifted rapidly and caused my car to jerk to a stop. I was only going 15 miles per hour so it was not too dangerous. Please help. The recall software update is all they were willing to help me with. Although the problem still persists.

My transmission is downshifting on its on when driving home without changing gears. I have to shut it off and wait before I can drive it again. I was in the flow of traffic when this happens and it is very scary. And it continues so I'm unable to drive it because it's to dangerous.

I I took this vehicle to Ford of dalton, georgia because there is a safety recall on the pcm and transmision that will suddenly downshift into 1st gear while going down the road. Customer service manager stated that it would cost me $140 dollars to diagnose the problem, and if the problem was the molded lead frame in the transmission that communicates with the output shaft sensor, that it would not be covered by the recall or warranty. This contradicts what the recall states. I shouldnt be charged $140 dollars for them to diagnose a recall. . This is on a 2011 Ford F-150.

After tapping the floor accelerator the engine went to full throttle and stayed there. Even after putting the vehicle in park the engine remained at 7000 rpm. Outside temp was -2f. Vehicle had been idling for 7 minutes prior to the incident. The event occurred while pulling into park at 10 mph. Almost hit a parked car and building but was able to brake and put the vehicle in park. After running at full throttle in park for at least 30 seconds the engine shut down. Also, the driver's side windshield wash spray stopped working a few days earlier.

So I went and got the recall done on it the one about the failing pcm and it dropping to first all of a sudden and temporarily losing control of the vehicle. Fortunatley every time this happens ive been going slow but there have been times when ill be going a good 60 something mph and it feels like ive hit a brick wall. So anyway I got the recall done and it was good fro a awhile but now its doing it again and when o called the dealership[ to find out what to do about it. They said I was sol and need to bring it in so they can find out whats wrong woith it fees not included. . .

2011 Ford f150 starter problems. I've replaced starter on this vehicle multiple times and still have issue's. I turn ignition and all that happens is a screeching noise. After a couple tries it starts. Second issue is speed control issues. I was driving on city streets and all of a sudden my speedometer stopped working. My truck would not shift and had to manually shift gears.

Speed sensor stops communicating causing the truck to shift in first gear. This has caused the back wheels to lock up and could cause serious wreck. I need to have this fixed ASAP at no charge. This is a $40,000 truck and should not be having these dangerous issues. I hope this can be taken care of without contacting the news and my attorney.

While driving down the road the vehicle abruptly down shifts , dash board goes blank, wrench light pops up and speedometer zeros out. Forcing you to stop.

Have researched and found Ford recall 19s07, this is everything the truck is doing, no letters have been sent. How can I get a case number to take to dealership to have fixed.

On repeat occasions my truck speedometer will stop working, my odometer will read zero and my vehicle will not allow me to increase speed despite stepping on the gas. In order to resolve the issue I have had to turn the truck off and on again.

Unexpected transmission downshift to a 1st gear regardless of vehicle speed.

Truck locked up on me on the highway doing 70+ mph & caused me to spin out & wreck. It's a recall for that issue that Ford will not fix for me because of mileage. Terrible customer service & endangered my life & others that day for a issue that they're responsible for.

While driving it down shifts from 3 to 1, codes are p0705 and p0016. These should fall under the factory recall for 15n05 and 19n01 but Ford refuses to cover it. Truck not only downshifts but also clinics into gear from park to drive or reverse.

Good morning,I have a 2011 f150 that is have a serious problem I would like to have resolved while driving the truck will down shift from 6th to 2nd at 70 miles per hour. It also will lose power and rear wheels will lock up. When coming to a stop and start again the truck makes a loud bang that feels like the drive shaft and trans. Are separating. While driving mph will go to 0 miles ph. And a tool will display on the dash. My truck has 187k on it and have been told that Ford will not fix the issue due to mileage I would hope that Ford cares more about my family's safety than the 37k miles past the warranty. This is a well known problem that needs to be fixed, Ford I hope you will fix my truck. It has already had the tps done didnt help,I need my truck for work and cant afford to get another at this time. Vehicle will down shift randomly and still haven't heard back from Ford about a remedy it's an open recall.

Transmission shifted in to 2nd at 50 mph. . Lost control hit a fence pole. . Blew up my tranny. . Nobody will help with towing.

I was driving my Ford f150 about 45mph when all of a sudden there was a hard jerk. So hard I thought someone had hit me, then a wrench came on the screen. After it jerked it slow down drastically. I turned around and took it to o'reilly's auto and they hooked it up to that machine and it gave a code that had to do with a catalytic converter. I had to wait until thanksgiving holidays were over until that following Monday before I could take it to my mechanic and he hooked it up to his machine and said that one of the sensors was not registering then I remembered I had a recall on a sensor that had to do with the transmission so I took it to the Ford house. I didn't have the recall paper with me so they looked it up on their computer and said they were going to reprogram the software that goes to a sensor in my transmission. And it didn't fix the problem. It is still doing the same thing and it doesn't matter, there is no way I would ever take it out on the highway I don't even want to drive it any faster than like 25 miles an hour because it jerks so hard and there's no warning when it happens whatsoever. It's scary, very scary. My complaint is I did the recall and I don't know what to do next because it's still doing the same thing like I never I know when it will do it again. I don't know if it's through the code and is no longer programmed I don't know but it's unsafe and I'm scared to drive it at all because people honk at me afterwards because I go so slow so I turned my hazards on. People are rude now days if they have to follow someone driving super slow. Which I do because of the jerk and the sound it makes. Unsafe.

Put truck in drive start traveling down the street and then the truck down shift and jerk really hard or traveling at about 45 mph and it has a hard shirt!.

I was driveling my truck from 6 gear jump down to 1 gear. I stop turn off and turn back on my truck was fine after that but now doesn't change from the first gear. This happen in highway 26 lucedale ms.

The service advancetrac light comes on regularly while trying the steering wheel at low speeds. It used to not be as common, but has gotten worse I. The past 6 months. Today I tried slowing down while making a right turn and the steering g locked up on me mid-turn. Based on the same diagnostics as hundreds of others with this problem, it's indicated that the entire steering rack will need replaced. Ford knows about this problem with not just the 2011 models, but with the 2012 and 2013 models as well.

Truck was in 4th or 5th gear . Was traveling aprox 40 - 45 m. P. H. With out warning transmission shifts into 1st gear. Sliding on loose gravel.

After completing a required recall, my truck speedometer and odometer 'zero'd' out while in motion. This occurred multiple times, most recently while on the freeway. When it occurred on the freeway, the back wheels felt like they locked up. I pulled to the side of the road to check for flat tires, as that was my first thought. All tires check out ok. I turned the vehicle off and turned it back on. This caused the speedometer and odometer to return to normal functionality. I returned the vehicle to the dealership as I thought that the new update may not have been successful. The dealership advised that the software update process was successful and could not be redone. I read a couple of internet blogs of where other owners had the same type of issue. If the update caused other faulty parts to be exposed, I understand. However, the vehicle should not lock its tires while in motion, especially at freeway speeds as this is a serious safety issue. The picture that is attached is when the issue first occurred. The same indicators occurred the second time, when I was driving on the freeway.

On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, I was traveling in my 2011 Ford f150 VIN#(xxxx) on the highway. During this time, I was traveling at approximately 65-70mph. About 1 minute after getting onto the highway, I felt a large knock in the transmission, and subsequently the vehicle downshifted from 6th gear into 1st gear, on its own, without warning! this action caused the rear tires to lock up, and the truck temporarily skid out of control, and drop speed to approximately 35-40 mph in the middle lane on the highway. Thankfully, I was able to retain control of the vehicle, and there was not anyone near me, and I was able to avoid a serious crash. Also, thankfully, I was on my way to work, and I luckily did not have my 5-year-old or 2-year-old in the vehicle with me. I immediately pulled to the side of the road, to compose myself, and re-evaluate the situation at hand. Regarding safety recall notice19s07, I called the dealership and they told me that they do not have the software to fix this until sometime in may, to call back at the beginning of may. How can I make Ford resposible if something happens to me in the meantime? thanks!.

My check engine light came on, code scanned was p0016. The code scanner states it's an issue with the timing chain loosening over time. The truck has a very prominent rattle sound for about 2-3 seconds upon an initial start up in the cold weather. The other day I went to pass someone, and lost power in the engine and my truck would not accelerate past the car. Ford is aware of the issue, as people all over the country and canada are having the same issue with 2011-2012 Ford f150 with the ecoboost engine. To me this seems like an obvious safety issue that Ford should take care of. Seems like an engineering flaw to me. The timing chain coming loose, and engine rattling like it's coming apart has to be causing damage as time goes on. The problem I had while trying to pass the car was on a lane 55mph road.

My f150 transmission started shifting from 3rd to 1st in January 2019 on a highway by my house. This happened a couple of times and I took to a transmission shop. Replaced the transmission and two weeks later I got the recall notice from Ford 19s07 in February. Ford said that if I took to a Ford dealer, they could help, but I didn't because I was not under warranty. I called a Ford dealer and in may they still do not have the software to fix. I would have not been able to use my truck since February. I feel that I'm stuck in the middle. What would Ford have done if I took to a Ford dealer in January?.
