1 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

Brake vacuum pump failure on residential city street, heard the pump running, then a gush of air resulting in extended stopping distance due to soft brake pedal. This part has been recalled in canada.

2 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

Hard brake pedal resulting in no or very little braking when engine is cold and vehicle is stationary, every day, every time I start the vehicle. Once the pump begins working or becomes unstuck, I do have brakes, however I am very concerned that this will result in brake failure and an accident with serious injury to me and my passengers. This vehicle has had a recall on certain models for this issue resulting from a bad vacuum pump. Ford customer service has said my vehicle is not involved in the recall. It obviously is, because it is the exact same problem involved in the recall.

3 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2019

I have a 2012 F-150 with the 3. 5l ecoboost engine, 100,000 miles. I have been having problems with no power brakes when truck is initially started and the dealer diagnosed this as a failed vacuum pump this typically happens at slow speeds the first several times you stop. A recall was forced in canada and a customer satisfaction warranty extension is in place in the USA (15n05). Both cover the 2011 to 2012 F-150 with ecoboost engine. For some reason my VIN is not included in the recall & customer satisfaction policy. Brakes intermittently have no power assist and its very difficult to stop truck, especially when you arent expecting the brakes to fail like that. This is a common problem and I have contacted Ford customer service - but all they will tell me is my VIN isnt covered. They need to expand this to cover more vehicles - its a huge safety related issue. I cant believe no recall has been issued.

4 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2017

I was driving normal speed and had to make a quick stop because the truck in front of me stopped short in front of my. I slammed the brakes to stop and my truck did not stop and collided with the car in front of me. There were no skid marks, the truck just did not stop. I had the brakes done the day before and I did not stop. I took my truck to Ford to check brake boost vacuum pump because it was making noises. They replaced it because the part was defective. I believe this is what caused my accident and the inability to stop quickly. Ford has replaced the part and the brakes are working properly but the pump is still noisy. I believe this to be related to the 2011‐2012 Ford f‐150 equipped with 3. 5l gtdi engines ea15‐006 brake vacuum pump failure.

5 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2016

This vehicle has been involved in several slow speed brake failures as follows: 12/05/17 unable to stop vehicle when backing out of driveway. It seemed to have a very hard brake pedal. Vehicle ran into curb at other side of street. No damage to vehicle. 02/05/17 vehicle involved in accident. Rear end another vehicle at stop light. Vehicle did not stop in expected distance when brakes applied. . Excessive pedal force was needed. 10/13/16 vehicle involved in accident at stop sign. Vehicle did not stop in expected distance and collided with with another vehicle. Excessive pedal force required to stop vehicle.

6 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2016

On start up the power brakes can fail to work resulting in extreme difficulty in stopping the truck when backing up our of the driveway or a parking space. This has resulted in two near miss accidents with parked cars in a parking garage. The issue appears to be limited to start-up for now. If you start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, the brakes appear to pressurize and work fine. It has not occurred while driving at speed. There is not indication of any braking issue with the onboard display.

7 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2015

When I started the car in the driveway and tried to move it 20 feet away from my garage, the brakes would not immediatly work and I came within 2 feet from hitting another car. I took the vehicle into the Ford dealership and they informed me that I had a brake vacuum pump failure and I had to pay $900 to have it fixed. If there were a child walking in front of my vehicle, I would have not been able to stop.

8 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

Occasionally, upon initial startup of vehicle, the power brakes would fail to engage, resulting in extreme force being necessary on brake pedal to slowly bring vehicle to a stop over several feet. This has resulted in near - hits of other vehicles in the driveway, basketball pole, camper, and house. Fortunately no impacts were recorded, but a major risk nonetheless. This phenomenon did not happen while driving, and did not happen 100% of the time during startups, but when it did it had the potential to be a major hazard.

9 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

The below problem has repeated itself more than 20 times since the first incident. When parked overnight or over a long period of time, upon starting and operating the truck - either reverse or drive - the brakes fail to engage the first one or two times. Had to either hit the brakes very hard or I had to revert the truck to p(parking) position. This just about works to bring the truck to a halt, but even this failed a couple of times when d(driving forward). Thankfully, no one was around for 10 meters. This has led me to only starting the vehicle when there is no person/object either in front or the rear. It is high-risk each time given the damage the truck can do if it collides into something. It is not readily reproducible as it works fine thereafter and hence could not prove it exists to Ford technicians. Reported it first to Ford along with an e-brake issue on 02/12/2015. They replaced the e-brake but brushed off this issue saying it could be rust and it's normal on vehicles parked for long. However the frequency has increased of late and I see quite a few Ford owners having the same issue on Ford forums. The possible issues could be the vacuum pump failing, but Ford technicians claim to have never heard of this problem. Really at a loss and hope Ford sends out a bulletin to fix this ASAP. This is not a joke. It's life threatening and could cause real damage very soon.

10 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

Braking fails sporadically when starting forward or reverse. Unable to stop. Once moving problem appears to go away. Identical to descriptions given in other 2012 recall on brake failure. Vehicle has 31k miles, and problem has existed since around 24k miles. Becoming more frequent.

11 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

After the vehicle is started and placed in gear, there are times when no power brakes are available and the vehicle is difficult to stop when it is only rolling at a few miles per hour (less than 5mph). You have to stand on the brakes to stop the vehicle, and if I'm towing a load when this happens it's a very scary event because the vehicle doesn't stop when you need it to stop. When pulling out of a parking position in a parking lot, I've come close to hitting a parked vehicle when my vehicle wouldn't stop as you would expect it to. I had my vehicle into the Ford dealership today to have this vacuum brake pump replaced to correct this problem, a problem that they know that exists and that is a safety issue, and I was told that the part will not be available until halloween timeframe. . . . A 3. 5 month back order. This is the most popular selling vehicle in north America, and if this is happening to only a small percentage of Ford f150 ecoboost's, it's only a matter of time before an individual is seriously injuried or killed from this vacuum brake pump failure on this vehicle equipped with the ecoboost engine.
