1 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2019

01/18/2019 at approximately 3:45 pm est, my wife and I were traveling on nb route 301 in the crofton, maryland area. Due to the recent snow and cold temperatures we are experiencing here in the eastern portion of the united states, we had the rear defroster activated in our 2012 Ford F-150 XLT pick up truck. While actively driving the vehicle, both my wife and I heard an extremely loud "pop" sound while riding inside of the cabin of the truck. I proceeded to look in the rear view mirror to see if I could determine where the noise originated from and that's when I observed that the rear passenger side glass was shattered. After stopping the vehicle, I did not observe any other obvious damage and was confused as to why the window suddenly cracked without an obvious cause. At this point I was quite perplexed. I subsequently turned to google in an attempt to find a solution and that's when I figured out what had occurred. It has been brought to my attention through various forums and online sites that multiple other Ford F-150 owners have experienced this same exact issue with the same exact circumstances in place (rear defroster activated, loud "pop" sound, observed a broken rear window). The articles go on to provide nightmarish exchanges between Ford F-150 owners and Ford dealerships where they are forced to pay full price for the repairs due to warranties being expired. Based on the age of the truck as well as it's mileage, I too am out of warranty. I do not believe Ford is recognizing or handling these issues properly. This appears to strictly be a design defect and no fault or negligence on the part of the owner/operator. My safety concerns are decreased visibility and sharp tempered glass shards inside of the cabin. I have submitted an insurance claim and am responsible for my deductible. I am looking to the NHTSA for assistance in looking into this matter.

2 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2018

Moon roof: opened once when purchased. Accidently opened instead of dome light. Off the grid, would only close half way. 40 mph. Winds, heavy rain, got soaked. Very dangerous driving giving I was exposed to the outdoor elements as described. Dark wind and rain in my face for half hour. Wiping h2o from face and inside wind shield, steering and dash. Had mechanic at a garage closed it. Found two small pieces of plastic broken off track. Dealer first quote $1,100. 00. Second quote was $2,200. 00. Blog on web and u tube repair sites many examples of moon roof failures from track failure to moon roof exploding on Ford vehicles. Why does this not constitute a recall. Ford dealerships are asking the consumer to pay outrageous prices to have their engineering failures fixed. A rip off to the consumer. I paid about $43,000 for this vehicle. The cost to fix the moon roof is over 5% of the cost of my truck.

3 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2018

The roof frame holding the glass electrically operates moonroof cracked creating a dangerous condition during a rollover accident. The most serious problem would be a wateeemersion like the recent amphibious ww2 duck where 17 souls were lost. Please step up and require Ford to fix the problem. The first thing that came out of Fords mouth was OH yeah we've been having problems with the sliding glass roofs. Ford has serviced my vehicle since I bought it in 2012 and never mentioned this problem.

4 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2017

I have a 2012 F-150 and have lost power along with the body of truck shacking on 4 occasions. Want to know how many throttle bodies I have had - the original, the replacement in 2016, another replacement in 2016 and now I broke down again yesterday. Actually on the 3rd throttle body, my husband dropped me off to pick truck up at dealership and I broke down in the Ford dealership parking lot as I was exiting the dealership. I again left it and they said it was dust on something and later afternoon delivered it to my house. So now one year later. . . One year to the day of breaking down, yesterday 5/11/17, I lost power on top of a big bridge on the inside line coming on to our island and by the grace of god no one was in the outer lane and I was able to coast over to the very small and tight emergency lane. People are usually cresting the bridge at 60 mph so I say god was watching over us. We called 911 and waited in the emergency lane on top of bridge and had a police escort off the bridge to a parking lot. We were afraid to move on our own in case someone crested the bridge and was caught off guard as we were coasting down. The emergency lane is very narrow on the bridge and it was a little nerve-wracking. After sitting 5 minutes I was able to start the truck again which is always the case. I had it towed to the Ford dealership and have called left message twice to speak to the service manager and he has yet to call me back. Way to go Ford! my faith in you is lost. I will never feel safe in my truck again. How many throttle bodies does one have to go through before you feel there needs to be a recall on the 2012 F-150. #luckytobealive.

5 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2015

While I was warming my f 150 in my driveway for departure to work, I heard very very loud thump sound coming from the rear window. Assuming maybe I opened my driver side door to far and wide upon getting in, that may have made the thump sound. But as I continued to drive out of my driveway, and proceeded a half mile down the street, I notice tiny small spider fragments on the right end of the 3 panel rear window. I first assumed it was mist dropping from the window but all the other windows on the truck were dry & clear. So I pulled over to get out to check to see if it was truly cracked and damaged. And yes indeed!!! it was the rear right side panel window damaged. I remembered the very loud thump sound that occurred five minutes ago and saw that my defrost was light flicking and now I realize that the rear defrost must have a defect, because I never experience this ever before on any other vehicles I owned and considering I only have less than 37000 miles there must be a major defect with the f150 rear panel windows. If you have any information regarding the Ford F-150 please contact me because this is unsafe especially when you have small children, or any passengers sitting in the rear. I'm just thankful there was no one in the rear. The cost to repair is extremely costly considering that the entire rear panel window has to be replace, this isn't fair to the consumers.

6 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

At a stoplight I activated the rear window defroster. After approximately 30 seconds I heard a sharp large cracking sound. Upon investigation I found the driver side rear window was shattered but still in place. No signs of chips from inside vehicle or outside were seen before the incident. After getting back inside the vehicle I noticed the rear defroster was inoperable.

7 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

My vehicle when going around na turn would want to starighten out in the turn. Later that day I came into a small town got thru the red light at that time my power steering needs maintenence light came on shortly after that I was unable to controll my the steering of my truck there was no steering I had a gentleman help me get the truck off the road as far as he could you just could not steer as it turns out my rack and pioion steering is no good there is no recall on this item but if it happens to someone going into a corner they will have a bad accident because you just cannot steer.

8 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

Ford fixed my rear window, no questions asked. . . . This is what happened. . . . I started my truck, put on the rear defrost, drove out of my apartment complex and as I was about to exit the complex I heard a loud pop/crack noise, I stopped, no one was around, (it was 6am in the morning), I checked the entire truck to see what it was and the back left part of the rear window was completely shattered!, no sign of impact, just shattered. . . Apparently there is no recall out on it, so if it has happened to you or does happen, take it in!, with how many complaints I have already read, it must be a manufacturer defect related to the rear defrost or installation of the window. . . .
