Under non-tow situations truck will shudder/misfire during hard acceleration. Acceleration does not have to be wot. Weather conditions can be hot and sunny or cloudy, raining and humid. Truck did not start doing this until 60,000 + miles.
The vehicle decelerated when I was merging onto two lanes of a interstate from a two lane on ramp. I was in the left lane of the on ramp and had a vehicle on my right and two semis in the interstate lanes. I had been on the road about 45 minutes in a light rain the whole time. I tried to accelerate to get out of the wedge and get onto the interstate and the engine began extreme sputtering and decelerating. I had to hit the brakes to avoid being sandwiched between the vehicle on my right and the two semis. I have seen Ford's report stating it only lasts for seconds and the vehicle will accelerate. That is incorrect, due to the extreme sputtering, my vehicle had to decelerate and it did not clear up for a least 2 to 3 miles. I also understand that the nthsa has dropped the case. I can only tell you that this was a very near miss for both the NHTSA and Ford with 3 people in vehicle. I also see that for has told the NHTSA that they have repaired all the affected vehicles. Really. I just got mind fixed today and that was after it was supposed to be fixed yesterday but the dealership didn't put the bottom shield on because they thought it wasn't supposed to be put on my vehicle. I think the NHTSA has put itselt in a bad position by siding on this issue with Ford.
When trying to pass a slow moving vehicle ( going 45 in a 55) I tried to pass. When I moved into other lane and gassed truck I lost power and started jerking. I had to let up completely off the gas and fall back behind the car that I was passing. This was a very dangerous situation since there were other cars behind me that had also started to pass as well as oncoming cars up ahead (a safe distance before attempting to pass of course). This seems to be a major issue since many of the same stories came up when searching the internet about this.
For the fourth time, my 2012 Ford f150 ecoboosted engine stalled or shuttered when hauling a load (trailer or heavy bed load) in a high humidity environment. I was pulling a u-haul trailer behind my truck and it was raining heavily. When I punched the accelerator to pass a slower vehicle, the engine stalled, sputtered, and nearly shut down. The "check engine" light came on for about a minute, then turned off once the engine had cleared what felt like condensation, and returned to normal operating mode. When I took the vehicle to the dealership to complain (for the 4th time), they told me that they were of aware of a design problem with the intercooler on 2011-2013 turbocharged vehicles, but since they could not verify the defect "code," Ford would not reimburse them for the service fix. This is clearly a safety and environmental issue as the service bulletin that Ford issued to correct the problem, requires replacement of the catalytic converter as well. Frustrated!.
Driving home from vacation we had stopped and were getting back onto highway , it had been raining all the way and when were merging back onto highway I accelerated quickly the truck started shacking lost power I lifted off accelerator until the shacking had quit and then eased back in and was able to drive the rest of the way home. The check engine light came on dealer showed it as a misfire. The current fix for this is to cover the first 6 to 8 inches of the intercooler.
Driving down the interstate during wet conditions my 2012 Ford f150 ecoboost started to stumble and loose power drastically while pulling a trailer. The truck would only do 30 mph as it shook and stumbled down the interstate. This power loss made it really dangerous to get off the road safely without other cars and trucks being affected. The only way to reset the truck was to shut the engine off and restart it. This has happened twice to me during wet rainy conditions. This issue really concerns me from the safety of my well being and other fellow drivers. Ford needs to take action in fixing this problem with the f150 ecoboost trucks.
My two children and I were driving up hwy 75 north from macon when we accelerated to the next lane. The speed limit is 70 so we were just going to pass in at a normal rate when the engine just quits and the whole car starts to shudder. Now I have had this happen at 19,000 miles and took it in to the dealership. This was only about two months ago. Went in today before I read all the complaints about this 3. 5 eco boost engine and the similar problems I experianced. It was raining on when we had this happen but it occered before with no rain. As the turck stopped and shuddered we were fianlly able to get to side of the road and did not get hit by oncomming traffic. There are six lanes of traffic in this area. Supprised today when I went to the dealership and told them what was happening and they didnt even know of the problems or have ever heard of it. ????? so based on what I have read I called back only to find out they have had issues.
I had been traveling on the interstate in south florida on a clear and sunny day when I slowed for tolls. As I tried to speed back up, the truck stumbled and acted like it was losing power. Then, the check engine light came on. The truck has been to the dealership on 10/09/13 at 22,489 for the same issue and the following: sawgrass Ford- ‘check engine light’- installed lower air deflector per TSB 13-8-1 08/05/13 (3. 5l gtdi—intermittent stumble/misfire on acceleration from highway cruise in humid or damp conditions with possible dtc p0304, p0305, p0306, or p0430). The truck is dangerous to drive if you are trying to accelerate into traffic or trying to pass someone.
24,991mi: misfire when accelerating while driving. No check engine light. Dealer reported no problem found, no codes & made no repairs. 29,440mi: misfire when accelerating & going up & down hills specifically when in 4,5, 6 gear during both flat & inclined highway driving. This was while pulling an 8000lb trailer. No check engine light. Dealer found misfire in #1 & 4 and replaced coils & plugs in #1 & #4 only. Test drive still showed misfire, then replaced turbo boost pressure sensor. I was told that moisture had damaged the plugs & sensor. 35,214mi: misfire when taking off from a stop, during normal acceleration and going up hills. No check engine light. Dealer replaced the driver’s side exhaust manifold because it was warped. 37,164mi: misfire when taking off from a stop, during normal acceleration & going up hills. I saw this in acceleration conditions from 10-60mph without towing a trailer. No check engine light. Dealer reported no problem found, no codes & made no repairs. 38,577mi: repeated severe misfires while going up moderate inclines. Check engine light came on (first time this ever happened) & I had a reduction in power, could not get out of 3rd gear & my speed dropped from 65mph to 50mph. After repair had moderate misfires during major inclines while towing a trailer but no check engine light. 39,000mi: while towing a trailer, experienced series of moderate to severe misfires in waves – be ok for an hour & then go into a series of misfires for 3-10 minutes. Some were on hills, some were on flat highway driving. I had 5 occurrences where the check engine light came on during this drive. 3 of these were during a hill climb where I had a power reduction & lost speed. Vehicle stayed in 3rd gear. When I would get a series of severe misfires, misfires were so severe (without the check engine light on), that I could hear & feel the turbo kick off & on. .
I had read about this issue but thought I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have a issue. However at about 11,500 miles driving in a rainy humid day on the highway I got in a spot where I had a rig going about 30mph and I was doing about 60mph having more than enough time to pass safely before the other rig coming up in the passing lane I decided to go around. . As soon as I pushed the pedal to the floor and got in the passing lane the truck lost power,,, shuddered badly and I almost couldn't get around the rig that was only doing 30! after getting by I decided to try to get off the road and again I was successful but not without the anxiety on thinking the rig coming up would not be able to slow down enough to allow me to get off the road without pushing me off. So far there have been no known accidents but again if the conditions are right for an accident to happen could be as simple as passing on a foggy night and the person coming up on you at 70 never saw the f150 ecoboost sitting in the passing lane doing 45 trying to get it off the side of the road passing at the top of a hill with nowhere to pull off to the right as going down the hill with a 70 mph tractor trailer driver doing his best to shut down his rig trying to avoid a jack knife due to a f150 ecoboost doing 40 mph with no where to pull off! so any of you that think this isn't a big problem waiting to happen then I suggest one thing. . . . Hope,,, pray,,,, that you never come up on a ecoboost passing a rig and find yourself between a f150 losing 30 mph and trying to get off the road, then you,, followed by a rig doing 70 mph on your bumper in the passing lane!!!.
Ford f150, 3. 5l ecoboost engine- while driving in rain, vehicle hesitated and misfired, with an associated check engine light on some occasions and not on others. Seemed to happen after cruising and attempting to pass another vehicle. Was unable to accelerate and continued to slow to 50mph. Had to ease on the throttle to slowly accelerated after the condition cleared. Vehicle in the shop 4 times for updates, 3 for changes to the intercooler and the last was for a change of the catalytic converter.
When returning from cullowee, nc, I was on the entrance ramp of I-40 east. At approximately 45 mph, I pressed on the accelerator to increase to highway speed. The engine started sputtering and the entire vehicle started shaking violently. The vehicle never gained speed until I let of the accelerator completely and slowly applied pressure to the accelerator again. The violent shaking of the vehicle and the resulting dangerous merge into traffic terrified my wife, child and grandchild.
Noticeable lag during acceleration. Most noteworthy incident involved passing at freeway speeds, engine bogged down and car felt like it was about to stall. Have noticed this a few times since as well. We are in monsoon season, have had rain and higher than normal humidity. Have also noticed what feels like delayed and hard transmission shifting. Fuel consumption/mileage seems to be affected. (was getting 17-23mpg when truck was first purchased in March 21013, am now averaging 13-15mpg). Have also noticed vibration/shuddering when accelerating from a stop light or sign, and during downshifting. Vehicle is currently in shop as check engine light came on on 8/26/13. Ford is performing a cold-soak(?) the code that they pulled from the vehicle was indicative of a misfire but they cannot determine what is causing the misfire at this time.
Attempting to pass on interstate, vehicle bogged down until I took my foot off accelerator, at this time my speed had declined from 65 mph to 50 mph. During the past 2 weeks this has occurred other times. This has never occurred since I have owned this vehicle but I am concerned. Once thing that I noticed that this has happened on rainy days. I was called by a friend that bought a similar vehicle make model equipment and motor and mentioned that he was aware of a problem made aware to him by a friend that works as a Ford service manager. I have scheduled an appointment with my local Ford dealer. They seemed indifferent as to this being a potential problem. I am submitting this complaint because if this is a common problem that is actually happening, Ford needs to step up and make this known to other owners to prevent something bad happening involving lives.
When accelerating and decelerating then accelerating the turbo drops out a severe loss of power occurred.
While driving on interstate I attempted to pass a slower vehicle. After moving over and accelerating - the truck buckled and stalled! I was almost rear ended by an 18 wheeler at 65 mph! this was very close to being a serious accident involving multiple vehicles. Please investigate and resolve this issue as Ford doesn't seem to be concerned about it. Not to mention I took it in for Ford to repair the problem and they refused to make the repairs as the vehicle did not show a trouble code. I looked online and there is a TSB on this vehicle by Ford for the repair but Ford won't make the repair. Not to mention since then the fuel mileage has dropped drastically since the event. This has happened three times now. I am very worried about an accident with this issue, not to mention it going out of warranty and I should not have to foot the bill. This is a design flaw and there are lawsuits all over the internet for this same reason. This is our family vehicle and it losing power is a huge safety issue due to tractor trailers not being able to slow down in time when this happens on the interstate. When the vehicle lost power it drops the vehicle speed to 40 mph. Not a safe speed for contested interstates. I bought this vehicle in April and spent 40,000 dollars on a truck that's very unsafe but not even dependable. This vehicle has a 3. 5l ecoboost engine with an automatic transmission and it also shudders at various speeds with a hard clunking sound during gear changes. Thank you.
I had the TSB (for known surging issue) performed on my truck (2012 super crew 4x4) in may at 25k miles. Everything seemed better, until. . . This past Saturday, I left the house at 5am for a 7. 5 hour/ 350 mile drive from home. It was raining continuously for the first two hours. Sometimes hard rain, but it didn't stop for the first 2 hours. I was driving back country roads with mostly 55 mph limits and rolling hills. Given the weather, type of roads, time of day, etc. I drove gently for the trip, never put my foot in it. Then, when going up a steeper hill that required more throttle than the others to keep my speed up, the truck started hesitating. A lot. More than it ever had before the TSB. And then, just after the hesitation began, something extra occurred that had never happened to it before. The truck started to shudder. This shuddering was akin to driving over road shoulder rumble strips on steroids. As soon as I let off the gas, the shuddering stopped. I gently pushed the pedal, shuddering was back and just as bad. Let off again. It stopped. Pushed the pedal again. It came back. Pushed the throttle once more, and it had stopped. I slowly pushed further on the throttle and it didn't do it any longer. By this time I was down to about 35-40 mph going up the hill. So I pushed down the pedal almost to the floor. The truck kicked down and accelerated with only slight moments of hesitation. Not once did the check engine light come on. . Thus, I had a textbook case of exactly what the TSB was supposed to solve, but didn't.
Myself and my wife was traveling on a short four lane road when I attempted to accelerate to pass a slower vehicle. My f150 engine shuddered, I let off the accelerator, the shudder stopped. I then tried to accelerate again and nothing. It was like I was coasting, I had no power from the engine to accelerate. I continued to try and accelerate but nothing. This lasted for 15-20 seconds then it started to accelerate normally. This same type of lost of power has happened 3 times since then. The first two times it was raining heavily, the last two it was not. I have read about the issues documented with the f150 eco boost engine and I am sure this is that problem. Unfortunately I read it after I bought the truck!!.
While accelerating to pass, truck started vibrating, had loss of power and increased rpm on tac truck practically stopped in its tracks first time it's happened. Will be contacting dealer. Defiantly could be hazard-as in heavy traffic so I hope Ford takes notice before people die.
Loss of power/engine misfires during hard acceleration on mid afternoon Friday, June 7, 2013 passing a car at country rd speed or less (was almost at a complete stop while car in front of me turned) in rain. Once I reached destination truck sat until mid day Sunday, June 9 when condition recurred on hill climb acceleration in dry conditions. Engine misfire indicator light came on at that time. After pulling over and shutting truck off to check owners manual, the service engine light came on when I started truck back up and has remained on but the issue hasn't recurred. Appt at Ford dealer for service on Friday, June 14 to check the engine light status and this issue. Engine is 3. 5l v6 ecoboost.
I was merging on the on ramp to obtain highway speed I stepped on the gas when all of the sudden the truck started to shake really bad. I tried to step on the gas to accelerate but there was no throttle response to the engine as the truck continued to lose speed. Every time I tried to step on the gas the truck would shake even worse. I pulled over to the side of the road so I would not cause an accident. This is not the first time I have experience this shudder in the truck.
The truck started to shudder and there was a loss of acceleration and power.
Attempting to pass a vehicle on the highway, motor lost all power and began shaking. Code came up as engine misfire. Brought to the dealership said known issue, they inspected did not find anything wrong. Since that date has occurred 4-5 more times during wet weather anytime accelerating (passing vehicles, on ramps).
While attempting to accelerate from a stop sign turning right my 2012 Ford f150 platinum 4x4 ecoboost stalled and would not accelerate for a few seconds. I thought the truck shifted into neutral but that was not the case. This has happened several times within the last 3 months and is getting more frequent.
Well I purchased this truck a brand new 2012 Ford F-150 XLT super crew w/ 3. 5l ecoboost engine. The truck had 104 miles when I bought it. After a week I started to notice that the truck shudder's when I accelerate from a dead stop and it also shudders when I come to a full stop. For about a week every single day and time I would start and stop the truck would shudder. I thought this was because the engine just needed to break in. Well I am going on the 4th week of owning this truck and it still occurs. The shudder that is. The shudder also occurs now when I have a cold engine start and I put the truck in reverse it starts to shudder. I do feel as the driver it has effected the performance of my truck.
Driving in raining conditions, when accelerating I would loose power when the turbo chargers kicked in. It was as if the turbo chargers were picking up the moisture causing the engine to misfire and would loose all power for acceleration. Even after the rain stopped, this acceleration problem stayed with the vehicle for the remainder of the trip. The next morning, still had same problem but as the temperature went up and humidity decreased the problem got less severe and by the end of the second day the acceleration had returned to normal. The first occurrence was when I was passing a semi trailer, I tried to pull out around in passing zone on a single lane in each direction, when the engine didn't respond I had to break and fall back being the semi. Luckily, this occurred as I pulled out to pass the semi, if it had happened after I along side of the semi, there would have been no way to accelerate to pass the semi or return to my side of the road before the oncoming traffic arrived. I have heard of other individuals experiencing the same during raining conditions and don't understand why Ford has not issued a fix for this problem.
Merging onto interstate at 50 mph I accelerated hard to merge into traffic. Complete loss of acceleration nearly causing an accident with a tractor trailer behind us. Violent shuddering of entire vehicle, check engine light flashed and then remained on. After nearly a minute of feathering the accelerator, the problem subsided and ability to accelerate was regained. This had already happened once on the same drive and a couple if times prior to this incident. I dropped the truck off at the dealer this am after driving it for two days with the check engine light on. They said they would call with an update in the afternoon, but when 7pm rolled around and I had not yet heard from them I called to see what was going on and was told that they were waiting for a replacement intercooler and to call back in the morning and speak with the service advisor. Seems like a very common - not to mention dangerous - problem for Ford not to be publicly dealing with it, or at least being more proactive about issuing a recall for. Hopefully no one gets hurt before the problem is acknowledged & fixed.
V6 ecoboost my family and I were traveling in heavy rain on i65 in birmingham, al. I pulled into the far left lane to pass slower vehicles. When I accelerated the truck began to shake violently and rapidly lose speed and power. Several vehicles including a semi had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The second time was on my return trip home. We were traveling on a two lane road in foggy conditions. We came to an area when the road split so you could pass slower vehicles. I, along with a car following, went to pass a slower vehicle which had moved to the right. When I was alongside the slower vehicle my truck began to shake and lose speed. I had to take evasive braking action to fall in behind the vehicle to my right because they were running out of room. The vehicle following me also had to take evasive action to avoid hitting me. And the car to my right. I took the truck to the dealer when I returned home. They replaced the cac, installed a plastic shield, reprogrammed the computer, and replaced a defective cat as was the recommended repair according to the issued TSB. On April 18th I was traveling on hwy41 in the rain. Twice on my trip the vehicle began to shake and lose speed when passing slower vehicles. The applied TSB did not fix the problem. I returned the vehicle to the dealership at the request of Ford customer care. They were unable to find an issue. The day the vehicle was returned the second cat went out and had to be replaced. Ford has acknowledged the issue but has informed me that there is nothing they can do at this time. They offered to send me a buy back offer within ten days and after twenty days and several phone calls today they informed me that they are unable to buy back my truck. They also told me that I would have to live with the issue until they (if) come up with a fix. I am unwilling to put my family at risk.
My wife and I were coming home going about 55 mph and I went to pass a slower car. As I pulled on the passing lane and went to pass the engine start to cut out the more I pushed on the accelator the slower the truck went. It has done this two more time. I'm fixing to take to Ford in a few weeks. This could be a safety problem the truck has the 3. 5 eco engine.
While driving on freeway and trying to pass, vehicle started shaking violently and lost power. Also when pulling out into traffic vehicle when lose power and engine shakes. Engine light came ona nd has remained on. Very dangerous situations continue to happen daily. Ford ecoboost system has a problem, dealership says Ford is aware but does not know when parts to repair might be available. Says to continue to drive. I am concerned a major accident is waiting to happen. This seems to be something Ford was aware of when sold this vehicle.
Full throttle passing. Severe engine miss. Loss of power. Could not complete pass. Had to pull back in line. Seams to be problem on ecoboost v6 engines. Cold climate humidity. Possible fix service bulletin parts b o intermittent cant predict when power loss will happen.
V6 ecoboost engine went into limp home mode while attempting to pass. Unexpected failure of engine caused loss of power and would not travel faster than 10 miles per hour. Unexpected situation occurrance is extremely dangerous and occurred at highway speed of 55 mph. Ford dealership has technical service bulletin on problem but Ford does not have parts available to fix with backorder of parts projected to be 2 months. Ford dealer indicated problem occures because moisture builds up in air intake cowl and when turbo intercooler senses the moisture engine shuts down. This is a serious problem requireing a better response by Ford motor CO.
This write up is for a 2012 Ford F-150 truck with the 3. 5l ecoboost v-6 installed. Jan, 2013-while driving on I-24e, I was pulling out from the rest stop, just north west of exit 1. I went to pass a 18 wheeler and my truck came "unglued". It practically died in the passing lane when I pressed the gas peddle. It shuddered so hard; I didn't think I would be able to get off of the road before it died. It was missing and shuddering like crazy. I pulled off exit 1, shut the truck down and restarted. It ran ok without that same thing happening on the way home. I had a pretty descent "miss" in 6th gear, running down the interstate at 75mph. Something very strange happened here. It was the first issue I¿ve had with my truck. Although I¿ve noticed recently the mpg is down by 2. 0 mpg or more for the last three weeks, and this from refueling at different locations, and the same driving style. Ford applied the TSB to reprogram the pcm/tcm to latest level, installed a deflector shield on the intercooler and possibly replace the drivers side catalytic convertor if needed. July, 2013- this weekend while driving on I-65n, I had the same issue happen. The truck now has 17,000 miles on it. I've had the vehicle back into my local Ford dealer four times for this issue. The vehicle exhibits this issue when it's rainy and has been driven in the rain for several (50 or more) miles. In heavy traffic this is a very dangerous issue. The vehicle goes into some type of safe mode and will barely limp off the road. If this issue were to occur while crossing a four lane hwy, and sputtered one could be seriously injured or injure someone else.
Was driving on the highway during a rain event. Went to accelerate to merge and the whole truck started to shudder and shake. The truck lost power. I was losing speed and everytime I tried to accelerate the truck would shake worse. Coasted back into my lane, and put on the hazards to slow into the emergency lane. The truck would only idle. Turned truck off, restarted truck, and it appeared fine. This is the third time this has happened.
Intermittent stumble/misfire on acceleration from highway speeds, engine feels like it is in limp mode, this has happened four times.
