While driving at 60 mph on highway my transmission will switch from drive into neutral and alternate in from drive to neutral randomly. Crash prevention sensors stop working at the same time. This causes safety issues for me and passengers as I am not able to control speed. It shifts out of high gear into a lower gear and feels like it is only operable in this one gear. Unable to tell which gear because the gear indicator lights on dash stop working during this time. Many warning icons pop up on dash readout during this (check engine, wrench, cross traffic collision, lane assist, etc. ) I see on the internet this problem is extremely common due to the 6r80 transmission molded lead frame failure which has been involved in millions of recalls but for some reason not my vehicle. This is extremely dangerous and could be life threatening to my auto occupants and others in traffic. I have an appointment to have it looked at by my dealer where I purchased the vehicle new in 2015.
I let my 83 year old mother use my truck due to expected extreme weather in houston. While making a right hand turn the steering seized and she had to brake hard to avoid hitting a mailbox. Neither the tow truck drivers nor I could budge the wheel, even to allow it to be put on a flatbed or towed backwards without being sideways. Several error codes paged through the dash upon failure but the only other symptoms was that she said it felt like the steering wheel wanted to fight her right before it happened. Diagnosis - failed epas electric power assisted steering rack. I take issue with a steering assist system being allowed to catastrophically fail with no warning or ability to manually maneuver safely to the side of the road. My mother could have been killed!.
A)when using the adaptive cruise control on interstate, the cruise control periodically resets to a much lower speed for no apparent reason. I have had the cruise set to seventy-five miles per hour on interstate highways and suddenly the cruise resets to thirty-five or forty-five miles per hour. This could become somewhat dangerous if someone is following me and does not notice the sudden reduction in speed. B)I have encountered problems when using the combined systems. For example, in a long line of vehicles approaching a stop sign, the autonomous systems operated efficiently. When the vehicle immediately in front of me leaves the stop sign, my vehicle attempts to accelerate through the stop sign. C)the lane keeping seems to pull hard to the right at various times. It may be due to the striping at interstate highway exits where to right hand lane marking follows the exit and the vehicle seems to attempt to remain centered between the lane markings. The lane keeping feature is very tiring to operate. The system seems to require operator intervention every minute of two so that the system may assure operator vigilance. This continued need to move the steering wheel slightly is extremely tiring. D)speed sign recognition identifies school zone speed signs and reduces the preset speed of the vehicle even when the school zone is not active, such as off hours or holidays. This could become somewhat dangerous if someone is following does not notice the sudden reduction in my speed. E)law requires the vehicle to be at the reduced / posted speed immediately upon passing the sign. Since the vehicle requires a few feet to recognize the change in speed limit and slow down, a traffic ticket may result. This has been reported to Ford and as a result the local dealer aligned the cameras with no resulting change in performance.
