While driving at 60 mph on highway my transmission will switch from drive into neutral and alternate in from drive to neutral randomly. Crash prevention sensors stop working at the same time. This causes safety issues for me and passengers as I am not able to control speed. It shifts out of high gear into a lower gear and feels like it is only operable in this one gear. Unable to tell which gear because the gear indicator lights on dash stop working during this time. Many warning icons pop up on dash readout during this (check engine, wrench, cross traffic collision, lane assist, etc. ) I see on the internet this problem is extremely common due to the 6r80 transmission molded lead frame failure which has been involved in millions of recalls but for some reason not my vehicle. This is extremely dangerous and could be life threatening to my auto occupants and others in traffic. I have an appointment to have it looked at by my dealer where I purchased the vehicle new in 2015.
While driving at approximately 35 mph, the blind spot warning and rear traffic warning system indicated that there was a failure to the system. I parked the truck and then tried to restart the vehicle. The truck would not start. When it was diagnosed at the dealer, they found a faulty lead frame in the transmission. This part was then replaced. I have checked with Ford and my vehicle is not being recalled at this time. I have seen other recalls involving lead frame in other Fords that have the same transmission as mine.
Vehicle has a catastrophic design flaw. If water enters the led bliss tail light assembly even in small amounts for anreason, including due to manufacturing defects, minor damage such as a crack, e treme wet weather, or wear and tear of seals, then numerous electrical failures occur of the entire warning system. This includes not only the tail lights, and blind spot backup and cross traffic systems, but catastrophic failure of all dashboard door and window controls. The vehicle cannot be easily unlocked including with remote, climate and accessories cannot be controlled. They vehicle can barely be operated and great expertise and expense required to return the vehicle to proper service. This has happened twice to this vehicle in 2022. Both times it was from minor damage to the taillight lens. Water entered the connectors for a network system which is critical to numerous vehicle safety and critical systems which are completely digital. The part required replacing is available only from a dealer as an oem part and cost $500 plus labor. Research shows this is a widespread confusing problem, which renders high end models nearly inoperable with uncontrollable systems other than basic engine functions and subjecting consumers to great inconvenience and expense. The manufacturer does not appear to have offered recall services and only will repair or replace if the item fails under warranty. Under any interpretation this problem is a gross failure in engineering and safety. What other vehicles with a minor taillight problem have failure of a majority of systems? so many codes are thrown that the average technician and consumer must bear great expense to repair for diagnosis, and then replacement with extremely expensive parts only available from dealer.
While driving there is a hard "clunk" sound then blind spot system, cross traffic system fault and see manual alert comes on. Truck loses power and shifts out of d (acts as if in neutral). Has happened about 7 or 8 times now. Very scary situation and can be tragic if this situation happens at high speed. I have done some research and I know there have been recalls for transmission lead frames on older model F-150's. Sounds and feels to be the exact same situation for my 2015 F-150.
While the vehicle was running, it spontaneous entered "limp mode". The wrench light came on the instrument cluster and warned that the blind spot and rear collision systems were offline. The gear selector indicator also disappeared. After the vehicle was shut off, it would not restart for numerous attempts. When it did, it was being driven to the dealership when the same series of events occurred at a red light. Afterwards, the truck struggles to accelerate. The dealership has diagnosed a lead frame failure, which was a recall on the previous generation f150s. Based off discussions online, it seems that this is common.
Several extremely dangerous situations occured within 6 months of purchasing brand new 2015, F-150, 3. 5, 4x4 ecoboost king ranch model. While driving on interstate, in rain, passing an 18 wheeler, without warning forward collision lights go off and truck begins slamming the brakes on by itself and the car behind me had to slam on his brakes to avoid a severe crash. I brought truck to dealership they checked it out and said they wasnt sure why it happened and reset the computer, and put me back on the road. It continued to happen 2 or 3 more times until I realized it was only during rain, and when on side of 53' semi truck trailers. The last time it happened was a very dangerous and unnerving experience. Truck suddenly begins slamming brakes on again going thru a major city on the freeway in heavy traffic. I brought the truck into dealer, and told them I wasnt driving it until they fixed it. The first year of ownership my truck was plauged with issues. It constantly went into limp mode while on the freeway. I was working over 3 states and the truck would go into limp mode if I accelerated to pass. I went to every Ford dealership shop along the interstate for a 300 mile stretch over the next 4 years while working away from home . Most of the problems were while under warranty. Finally they updated software and it stopped. This was a very dangerous problem and the dealerships werent really very helpful. My truck stayed in the dealership shop more than 60 days the first year I owned it. I bought it brand new.
