Took truck for service maintenance and tire rotation. Tire rotation wasn’t done because tech said lug nuts were swollen and they couldn’t get lug nuts off. I took truck across street to big-o tires and they rotated tires and we had lug nuts replaced with steel lug nuts.
Hubs keep engaging themselves when parked. Hubs have been replaced as well as the 4wd iwe valve and the problem continues. Multiple shops have worked on this and failed to find a solution. It is becoming a safety problem if it starts to engage while driving.
Lug nuts on all wheels have become misshaped making them a risk for fall off and/or unable to remove wheels without the aide of an impact wrench at a shop. This would prevent the owner from changing a tire on the road if needed. Also a safety concern with driving should the lug fall off.
Vehicle did not have tires pressure sensors at the moment of the purchased.
Vehicle was taken in for service and told lug nuts were swollen and needed to be replaced. The vehicle is only 5 years old with approximately 37,000 miles. The poor quality of the original parts creates a safety risk for the driver and others.
The wheels have be change twice over the 78000 current miles, I am the original owner. The lug nuts are now difficult to remove and some impossible. The tire iron socket no longer fits any of the lug nuts. Reported widely on the internet, the oem lug nuts swell and require replacement. I could not find replacements they, are in such demand. Called Ford to see if replacements are offered. They said no, but redesigned solid steel lug nuts are available for over $140 plus tax for 24. This is a safety issue. I am making long drives in remote areas of nevada and not being able to repair a flat tire is a terrific safety issue. These lug nuts should be recalled for being unsafe. Recently tried to replace the brakes and was unable to remove the tires for service.
The lug nuts "expand" after time or exposed to water after time, requiring replacement of lug nuts.
The lug nuts on the vehicle swelled to the point that they could not be removed by the dealership using standard practices. I took the vehicle to the dealership for standard service, and was contacted by the service center. I was informed they would need to “hammer the wrench into the lug nuts to get them off” which would render them useless, and I would need to replace them. This could cause safety issues to consumers if/when they would need to remove the lug nuts themselves, for example in the event of a flat tire. The issue has been reported to the manufacturer and the manufacturer confirmed with me over the phone that this is a known issue. I was unaware of the issue, until informed by the dealership and again confirmed by their customer service department. I would also like to add that as the consumer, I was left to pay for new lug nuts as a result of a manufacturer defect.
I took my 2018 Ford F-150 to my dealers service center for the 6 month service. I was told by the service clerk the mechanic was having trouble removing the wheels lug nuts because they were swollen. These are two piece steel and aluminum lug nuts. In removing these lug nuts to rotate the tires the impact wrench and socket has caused lug nuts to swell up. I am concerned about the safety of these lug nuts being able to secure the wheels. Ford motor company has not made a recall on the lug nuts but I have seen and heard of numerous complaints about the problem. It is impossible to get these lug nuts off with the standard lug wrench supplied by the Ford factory. Please investigate why Ford has not made a recall. Thanks dan.
I took the truck in for oil change and rotation. One wheel had to have new lug nuts due to then being swollen and had to be drilled off. Which wasn’t a cheap expense. They told me the other 3 wheels were looking a little swollen too. That’s almost 1000$ just for lug nuts and most can’t afford to drop that cost on lugs.
Swollen lug nut. During mileage requirements for 'the works ' vehicle service add on cost for replacement of swollen lug nuts on 2018 Ford f 150 4wd supercab 65,361 odometer.
The lug nuts on my 2018 f150 became swollen and distorted. The Ford dealer was unable to use the standard size socket to remove them. Dealer recommended I immediately replace them with solid steel lug nuts to prevent not being able to replace the tire/wheel while on the road in an emergency situation. I did replace them with a dealer recommended lug nut.
Upon completion of oil change and tire rotation at wayne county Ford in honesdale PA, we were called and told our lug nuts were swollen, all 20, and needed to be replaced at a cost of $150. We told them not to replace them and during a conversation with the service manager, he said Ford puts a cap over them, water gets under the cap, and swells the lug nut. Sounded ridiculous. We wrote to the owner of the dealership and at this time we are riding with swollen lug nuts till we can find some affordable ones, putting us at risk. There are torq wrench marks on my lug nuts which were not there before. Overtightening seems to have taken place.
Took truck in to have oil changed, filter changed, includes tire rotation. Informed tires could not be rotated due to swollen lug nuts. Told safe thing to do is buy new lug nuts. Apparently this is an ongoing issue with Ford oem lug nuts that have a chrome finish.
While getting tires rotated at costco, it was recommended I replace all lug nuts as they were all swollen. Was advised this is a safety issue. Also advised this appears to be a common problem and complaint with Ford trucks although no known recall to date. Replaced all lug nuts totaling $35. 44. Invoice available if needed.
Recently took my truck to discount tire for a tire rotation and rebalance. I was made aware that the lugs nuts on the truck are swollen. I was told by the discount tire employee this is common on F-150 trucks. He highly recommended that all lug nuts should be changed for safety and that the proper lug nut socket can be used. The lug nuts were so swollen that the recommended 21mm socket would not fit. The employee also said that the lug nuts should not do this and there is a potential for the lug nuts to fail. Discount tire was able to remove the swollen lug nuts safely without damage and I paid to get new lug nuts installed. The other reason for replacing is that if I needed to change the tire the provided lug wrench that comes with the truck would not fit the swollen lugs. The lug nuts provided with my F-150 are defective and the cost of replacing should not be put on the consumer.
The outer casing of the lugnuts break off, needs to be recalled and replaced.
I was driving my Ford f150 on road. My tire pressure warning came on. I pulled into a fast food restaurant. I retrieved my tire changing tools. I tried to loosen the wheel lugs. The tire changing wrench would not fit the lug nuts. I tried hitting the wrench to force lug wrench on to nut. It would not fit. I called a tire repair shop and a truck arrived. His wrench would not fit either. He left and returned with a large hammer. He drove the wrench socket onto the lug nut and was able to loosen all lug nuts. I called the dealer and spoke with service. The lug nut has a ss sheet metal wrap around the lug nut. When the nut is removed, as in a tire rotation, the ss sheet metal wrap is stretched and deformed, thereby making the lug wrench useless. The dealer said to bring truck in and they would replace the lug nuts. I lost 3 hours and paid the tire repair shop $45. 00. Unacceptable, could have happened to anyone, anywhere.
I have a 2018 f150 that I purchased new. Since that time , I have oil changes & tire rotations done . Yesterday I went in to have oil/ rotation done & was informed that they can’t get the lug nuts off as they are sold with cheap lug nuts that swell up making it impossible to remove the lug nuts without destroying them & even making it impossible to change a flat on the road . Being told I need to purchase new lug nuts in order to to do a rotation. I feel this is equipment failure. This vehicle is still under a warranty. This should be a recall item , as it affects & hinders maintenance on a vehicle.
The vehicle as of 12/9/2023 at 3:39pm cst is at a mileage of 79,542. The week of December 4th, 2023, we brought the truck to a repair shop because there were heavy vibrations that would occur in the front of the truck when driving on the interstate. The repair shop diagnosed it as needing to have the front left wheel hub assembly replaced, and they explained that normally when one side is replaced, they will replace the other side too (front right). They replaced this, but we are concerned that it could’ve been a ball joint misaligned with the dust boot or missing an alignment hole that could’ve caused the need to replace the front left wheel hub assembly. It appears online that other Ford owners have had this issue specifically with the front left while under 80,000 miles. We are concerned that one of the parts in the assembly could be defective.
Lug nuts were swelled on during tire rotation. If I had a flat, I could not of been able to get them off to change the tire. The dealer suggested to replace them at my cost, yet the vehicle is still under warranty. I was out of pocket for $126.
Swollen wheel lug nuts.
Ford dealer states the lug nuts are swelling. A known build/design quality issue.
Lug nuts swelled making removal impossible without damaging them and rendering them unsafe for reuse per the tire shop (plaza tire service). Required replacement of 5 initially and all at a later date.
Lug nuts have a cap on them for looks that swell up and make it impossible to replace with factory tire iron.
While have my truck serviced on a routine interval, I was told by the Ford dealerhship shop that the I had "swollen lug nuts" and that my tires couldn't be rotated/serviced due to the issue. Ford dealership recommended I replace them which I obviously had to do and they put on aftermarket part since the Ford oem lug nuts were a known issue. They claim it isn't covered by warranty because lug nuts are a "wearable" item (this defies logic in my opinion) yet there is no mention of needing to check/replace lug nuts in a regular schedule in the recommended maintenance schedule. I find this a critical safety issue as I would not have been able to change out the tire with or have my worn tires replaced without having to replace the lug nuts. I've opened a case with Ford: cas-31464804-j4y2q8 crm:0789115 these defective lug nuts should be recalled and fixed by Ford.
While driving on a highway I experienced a flat tire on my 2018 F-150. After stopping, I attempted to change the tire. However, my tire iron wrench would not seat on two of the six lug nuts. Upon inspection, I could see these two lug nuts had become deformed. The truck had just passed 18,000 miles on the odometer and had no prior tire damage. The truck had undergone two tire rotations both at my local Ford dealership. I was eventually able to get the tire iron wrench to seat on the lug nuts by pounding it on with a set of pliers. When I returned home, I inspected the other tires and found the tire iron wrench would not seat on three other lug nuts. I contacted my local Ford dealer to see if there was any history of problems with lug nuts becoming deformed and was told while they had had some previous issues with lug nuts on other Ford vehicles, the F-150 was not one of them. I then researched lug nuts on a F-150 forum and discovered that Ford had a history of faulty lug nuts dating back to at least 2015. In some cases people were forced to call for roadside assistance to get the lug nuts removed. In a few cases the roadside assistance attendant was unsuccessful at removing the lug nuts and the vehicle had to be towed for more detailed lug nut measures. Some people may question why this should be raised as a safety issue. I can tell you this happened on a rural highway on a moonless night. My rear driver's side tire went flat very quickly. Fortunately, I was able to exit the highway on the last exit before a 60 mile stretch or else I would have had to try to make the change next to the highway. A reasonable person should expect lug nuts to be removed without issue using the equipment supplied with the truck. A week after this happened, I bought a complete set of aftermarket lug nuts the Ford forum had recommended.
Have noise when oporating the vehicle.
I performed a wheel alignment but the car is still going to one side if I let go of the steering this vehicle was involved in a car accident I dont feel safe because I cant keep the car in a straight line.
I purchased a new 2018 F-150 platinum with hankook dynapro htm 275/55/20 tires. At 5,000 miles the rear driver tire developed a bulge in the sidewall approximately 3 inches long and 3/4 inch wide from center of sidewall to the tread. At 7,500 miles a similar bulge developed in the front driver tire. Frontier Ford in santa clara, CA service department told me to call hankook and hankook told me it was the dealers responsibility to warranty the tire. These tires are defective and unsafe to drive on and I need help to get someone to take action. There are several reports online regarding hankook tire sidewall and tread defects and this tire needs to be added to a recall list before it causes harm. Pictures and service records can be obtained from frontier Ford and Ford motor corp case #cas-22012913. If you are experiencing a similar issue with hankook tires please report your concerns to help prevent these tires from causing an accident or real harm. Thank you.
Issue: random low tire pressure alert. Occurs at any time. Two events were dangerous, one in rush hour construction zone and the other during a tornado. The codes self clear after a time period. Dealer (crest Ford) said no codes retained by the truck. Ford has not responded to the issue or offered a fix. Opened a case with Ford #cas17681018 last week. Issue is failure to repair, no retention of safety related codes, and why after 10 minutes the dash low tire alarm self clears. All issues occur while driving, both on freeway and surface streets. This issue has occurred since taking delivery of the new vehicle.
2018 F-150 Ford super cab pick up. I had heard about swollen lug nuts and when I tried my lug nut wrench that came with vehicle, it would not fit. The issue is Ford uses a 2 piece lug nut and overtime they swell causing the outer layer to swell and that is why the vehicle lug nut wrench will not fit. I checked with the selling dealership and they said it is a rea deal. I asked if they had replacement nuts that are not oem 2 piece nuts. I was told yes but I will not sell them because I would have the same issue. So Ford doesn't even have an option to fix this issue. I was told buy the one piece nut at an auto store. Ford is in a class action lawsuit and will not comment about a recall and replacement nuts and that maybe the reason they are not offering a satisfactory replacement nut. If one wants to replace them you are on your own dime. It affects my escape as well as most of Ford products it was stationary in my garage but doing research it is occurring frequently on the road.
Intermittent grinding and vibration from the front of vehicle, while traveling at any speed, on highway and in town, suspect 4x4 system trying to engage.
