36 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2023

This is the 4th time since purchasing the truck that this event has happened with time having the most severe results. When shifting from reverse to park the shifter goes into park and jumps back into reverse. First event (after exiting the truck) the truck rolled into a shipping dock breaking a taillight and buckling the rear bumper. Next two I had one foot on running board and one foot in the truck ant was able to hit the brake stopping the truck. This fourth event one foot was on the running board and one on the ground. As truck went back the door flattened me to the ground and the front tires rolled over both of my legs. The truck rolled up an inclined parking lot, across a busy road and down a bank. I was driven by ambulance to the hospital and then transferred and airlifted to trauma center at ruby memorial hospital. After the second event the local Ford dealer said they could not duplicate the event. The brakes do not hold even though they are depressed and set when the shifter is shifted.

37 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2023

The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 21v533000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired, however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

38 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2023

Park/emergency brake system light illuminates and system engages when vehicle is placed from drive to park, and when system is shut down the light illuminates and engages. Also, when vehicle is started the park brake light shows to be engaged. When the vehicle is put in reverse the light is still illuminated while the vehicle is backing up. The light stays on while the vehicle is in backward motion. Safety concerns for me and my family are: 1. What if the park brake engaged while driving at normal speed - what could happen? 2. With vehicle parked and brake system engaged driver should not be able to put vehicle in reverse and back up without disengaging brake lever. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership service center twice to try to get resolution of the park brake light issue. They were unable to duplicate the issue and stated that according to Ford's maintenance policy there was nothing more that could be done. We have tried to contact Ford through their main customer service phone number. We literally spent hours on the phone trying to reach someone who could help us with the issue, but no one had an answer for us. A case file was made by Ford customer service and marked "resolved". It has not been resolved. As stated, the park brake light started showing up in February 2022. As of this time there has not been an incident, but I can't rule out that something might happen. I think it should be addressed by the dealership and/or Ford engineer with more interest than just a dismissal attitude.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 49,276.

40 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2023

When traveling on a divided highway in the left lane with no vehicle ahead of me, as I am passing a vehicle in the right lane, just when I am about even with that vehicle beside me my truck applies the brakes firmly and unexpectedly. There is no associated warning message on the instrument panel display or audio alert like there is when it goes into collision avoidance. When it happened the first time I was very startled and worried it saw something that required braking but as it happens almost every time I pass someone I am getting used to it.

41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2023

My 2021 f150 XLT with 19,000 miles has never had functioning trailer brakes. Initially I was plagued with constant trailer wiring fault / trailer disconnected issues, and zero slide or pedal brakes, when trying to tow a travel trailer. Two separate dealerships initially dismissed my concerns because it passed their trailer simulator test. Eventually, Ford replaced the trailer wiring harness under warranty. After that, I had intermittent slide brakes that would work, but I never saw any brake output when using the pedal brakes, regardless of gain setting. Ford then replaced the trailer brake controller, which worsened the issue: once again I am getting trailer wiring faults. My slide brakes are extremely hit or miss, and when they do engage they catch and release several times. I still have zero brake output when using the pedal brakes regardless of gain. The dealership consulted a Ford engineer and assured me that my truck is perfect, I should not expect to see brake output for pedal brakes, and all is working as designed. They blamed my trailer. I demanded to test my trailer with a different f150 from the dealership and it works flawlessly - brake output on both slide and pedal brakes, no error codes. It is horrifyingly obvious that I have never had any trailer braking functioning with my pedal brakes now that I have compared the braking distance in the loaner truck to my truck. If I had believed Ford, I would be towing a 7,500lb trailer with zero idea that I did not have any trailer brakes. Dealership and corporate are both kicking their feet on a potential fix to this horrifyingly dangerous trailer brake problem.

46 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2022

I was driving with my wife and our one month old baby on I-25 in albuquerque on a hot day (truck screen indicated 106 f) when suddenly the advancetrac traction control, forward pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, and abs system warnings all came on the dashboard. At the same time the brake pedal went limp (no braking action for the first ~50% of the pedal press). I slowed the truck by coasting for over a mile and picked an off-ramp that I expected to be empty before getting off the highway. Upon exiting the highway, I pressed the brake pedal all the way down and at 90-95% of the pedal compression the brakes finally engaged but locked up the rear wheels leading us to skip and skid across two lanes. We were able to come to a stop in the middle of the ramp and then gently moved over to the side of the exit, again locking up the rear wheels when we came to a stop. Upon turning the truck off and turning it back on again everything went back to normal suggesting that it was some subsystem that caused the electronic brake booster and abs to become unresponsive. After a week at the local Ford dealer, the service technicians were able to find the error code c05cf. This error code appears to be officially only triggered by "brake master cylinder piston position sensor "b" -this dtc sets due to incomplete or improper module programming procedures. " which suggests this problem may have been lingering for over 30k miles of use. Ford technicians updated the traction control module firmware, body control module firmware, and then reproduced the issue leading them to perform an abs system calibration which they claim fixed the issue. It is claimed that no component replacement was necessary, only software updates and calibration. Full dealer notes attached as . Pdf it's crazy to think a software bug caused our brake system to almost entirely fail on the highway, particularly with an error code that should only have been able to been generated at the factory.

47 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2022

This is a link to the dashcam footage. Traveling 45mph in stop and go traffic. I braked (indicated by my hood dipping downwards) but failed to stop. Possible defect? haven't had my truck back since the accident on 6/24/2022. Https://youtu. Be/hl7iau0463i.

48 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2022

Have had squeeking breaks since receiving the truck a year ago. Brought in and was told to watch for a letter they don't have the part that my breaks are safe but the squeeking has gotten a lot worse. Also the dash board lights turn on and off when the car is off. The other day driving at speed on the expressway the whole dash board turned off all gages went to zero than rebooted. I was coasting trying to figure out what was happening so not sure if I lost power. 3 faults were sent to my phone. Restraint fault abs fault and tire pressure fault all showed up.

2021 Ford f150. Consumer writes in regards to safety recall 21s56.

50 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2022

My trucks integrated brake controller will not consistently control the electric trailer brakes. I plug in the trailer and get confirmation that it is controlling the brakes by manually testing them while rolling and at some point during the trip it stops controlling them without warning. I have tried all methods to be sure the 7 pin connection is seated properly and I am sure it is. I have a 7 pin tester and when I check the electric output at the plug it lights up the circuit (bk) for the brakes. When traveling and I realize I no longer can control the trailer brakes, I pull over and unplug the trailer, plug in the tester and when squeezing the brake controller it will not light up the circuit marked (bk). If I leave it disconnected and shutoff the truck for 15+ minutes and reconnect, it works again only to stop again at some unknown point. There is obviously a seriously dangerous issue here. I have taken it to the Ford dealer and they can't find anything wrong. When it resets you can't duplicate it until you tow for an undermined distance for it to fail again. I have searched the internet and found many people with the same issue and no one has been able to get it solved by all manner of efforts including many efforts at Ford dealers and electrical shops. This form asks for the date it occurred. It started as soon as I took delivery with 5 miles and is ongoing.

55 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2021

The trailer brake on my truck is not working consistently. When coming down a snowy mountain pass two days ago, the bake controller disconnected (after working for about 5 hours). This is incredibly dangerous and due to the fact that I am on a cross country road trip and all dealers are booked months in advance I have not been able to get any information from Ford. I am going to post links to other people having this same problem. This has happened since the truck was purchased. This is an incredibly dangerous situation and I would have expected more from a Ford truck. I believe based on these other peoples experiences that the issue is with the powerboost hybrid specifically. Motor trend even noticed this in their review: software struggles we also intended to evaluate how much the electric motor's torque helps with towing, only to be thwarted by another bug, this one in the trailer brake controller. No matter what we did, the integrated trailer brake controller would not activate the trailer brakes—even with the gain all the way up. We verified the issue was with this F-150 by hitching the trailer to another truck, where the trailer brake controller and trailer brakes worked fine. . Read more...

57 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2021

2021 f150 XLT powerboost (4x4, 9420 miles). Brakes failed while at a complete stop and truck propelled forward despite brake pedal being being pressed down. I was in a fast food drive through at a complete stop with my foot on the brake pedal and the instrument cluster went crazy, warning lights flashing, malfunction messages for what seemed like everything (believe pre-collision, abs, traction, hill, and some others- cant recall for sure), warning chimes sounding non stop, the brake pedal dropped towards the floor board, and truck started moving forward despite pressing pedal as far down as I could; this all happened almost instantly. Pumped breaks (not sure if it did anything) but I barley stopped in time from hitting the car in front of me, and I left a far amount of room between us initially. After this, when limping the truck through the drive through (was stuck in the line at this point), it took about 10ft to stop from a 1-2mph roll. After clearing the drive through line, I was limping the truck to open area of parking lot and the truck randomly bucked (like bump starting a manual) and all the instrument cluster warnings disappeared and brake pedal pressure and braking performance returned. Just as how the issue instantly occurred, it also disappeared instantly. Despite all the warnings on the cluster, only abs fault and pre-collision show on the Fordpass app. Prior to to this, there were no issues. The vehicle has yet to be inspected by Ford as the service department is booked out for bit. Vehicle has since been parked as I am fearful a 6k lb vehicle without brakes can end with loss of life. Interesting enough, Ford does not seem to share this concern as their roadside assistance dept says the truck does not have towing coverage while their customer care team says it does but they can't work with each other and end result is I had to prepay $273. 06 to Ford roadside assistance for the tow to the future service appointment, and maybe Ford might reimburse it.

58 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2021

While towing an RV trailer, the trucks brake controller failed to send signal to trailer when brakes were applied relying on truck only to stop load. The truck recognized trailer was attached but when brake controller was squeezed message on dash was “no trailer” stopped at dealer in kerrville TX but problem was not seen on scan tool. This issue seems to be intermittent with no warning message when it happens. Manually monitoring brake controller is the only way to determine if the trucks brake controller is functioning correctly.

59 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2021

The standard trailer brake controller does not function. I have tried it on 2 known trailers that function with other trucks and this truck's does not work.

60 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2021

Driving down a steep mountain road when a passing vehicle tripped the pre collision alarm while vehicle was being braked. The abs, traction control, brake, and just about all other visual alarms went off and the vehicle lost the brakes. The emergency brake would come on and lock up the rear tires then release rendering the vehicle unable to stop going down the steep road. Vehicle came close to crashing into other vehicles multiple times while trying to come to a stop. Vehicle was brought to a Ford dealership where the issue was verified. Dealer noted no recalls or TSB's on this vehicle. Dealer cleared the faults and test drove the vehicle and said the issue is now gone. Vehicle was in the process of being driven home when another vehicle in front slowed and tripped the pre collision sensor again and again all alarms came on and the brakes were lost. The vehicle in front was almost collided with. Contacted Ford customer service to report the issue. Ford cs said to tow the vehicle to an authorized Ford dealership and call back to open a case file. Vehicle is currently at a Ford dealership awaiting service.

61 Service Brakes problem

When connecting my truck to a know working trailer the truck would not enable the trailer brakes. Tried different vehicle and the brakes work fine.

62 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2021

I was pulling into my spot at work and the power steering assist light and pre collision assist lights cam on along with advance trac. At this point I had no power steering. Luckily I was basically stopped. I cycled the key on and off twice and it finally went back to normal. Then later that same day I started the truck up and proceeded to leave from work and the seatbelt restraint light, abs system, and tpms stopped working and I was notified of the faults via Ford pass. The lights then went away right after. I have a service apt 9/29 at the dealer to see what is going on but I’d like to get this documented in case it becomes a recurring issue. Thanks.

63 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2021

I make a panic stop with my 5,000 lb boat, abs light came on break light came on flashing warning light said to inspect brakes. Moved truck and found I had only partial breaking, carefully drove home with partial breaking. . At home all lights went out and brakes worked fine. Took to dealer they said a sensor went bad and they ordered part will be here in a few days. Truck only has 7500 miles on it, replacing a sensor does not fix the problem of a sensor that can at any time go bad again. This is a major design flaw similar to the original 121 brakes on trucks. This is going to get someone killed . There is no reason to install a sensor that can disable any part of the breaking system.

64 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2021

After connecting my boat trailer, I had zero trailer brakes. The lights all worked, brake, running, signal-but no trailer brakes. I turned the integrated trailer brake gain to the highest setting-still zero trailer brakes.

65 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2021

On multiple occasions my abs system doesn’t work (no collision assist fault and abs fault comes on). Brakes don’t work without great force when this happens. Ford service saw the errors in history but said couldn’t fix / find current issue. This is intermittent so active fault lights and issue come and go. Dangerous condition that Ford isn’t addressing!.

66 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2021

The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard however, the vehicle failed to stop with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that within several seconds, the brakes would engage and stop the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

67 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2021

When towing a trailer with trailer brakes, the trailer brakes are tested and confirmed to be working at the beginning of the journey, but at some point during the journey, the trailer brakes will stop working with no indication compromising my stopping ability. This issues has occurred multiple time and can confirm there are no problems with the trailer brakes themselves. This same issue is being reported by multiple other 2021 f150 owners.

68 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2021

I bought a new 2021 F-150 powerboost exactly 60 days ago, drove approximately 1500 miles until I completely lost brakes on the car almost causing an accident. I brought the car over to the dealer cross-roads Ford of apex and after one day with my truck, they diagnosed the issue, made software updates to all modules, and returned the car. I got the car and within 5 minutes from the dealer, lost brakes again and had to manage to stop the vehicle. . . Returned to the dealer and it's in for diagnosis again but they asked me to contact Ford. This is not acceptable, I put my family at risk twice and possibly others in the road with this truck. Opened a case with Ford cas-32036511-y0w3w4.

69 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2021

The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the brakes failed on two separate occasions. The first failure occurred while the contact was driving at an undisclosed speed on the highway. Several unknown warning lights were flashing however, the warning lights self-adjusted. The second time the failure recurred, the vehicle was parked. While attempting to start-up the vehicle, several unknown warning lights illuminated. After the failure, while driving 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The abs activated and the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that the trailer brake module had failed. The vehicle was repaired but remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,900.
