Took my 2021 Ford f 150 in for recall 23s65 and oil change and was told vehicle was unsafe to drive and even though parts according to Ford where available the dealer said they were on back order with no eta of when they would be available and they would put me in a rental for the time being. I’ve been told 3 times now by Ford parts are available but yet the dealership keeps saying they’re still on back order.
Ford has refused, on multiple occasions and at multiple dealerships, to address the NHTSA recall number 23v896 (mfg. Recall number 23s65) issue with the wheel end hub bolt in the rear axle. Well, this weekend, the bolt on the passenger side rear axle broke off, rendering the vehicle undriveable. I brought it in to the lithia Ford dealership (who's online information said they were open) to get it addressed. They were closed, no one was there, and they won't even give me a loaner vehicle while the F-150 is inoperable. This recall has been out for two years now and they still won't deal with it. Absolute neglect of their obligations and an unsafe practice!.
My Ford F-150 is subject to manufacturer recall number23s65/NHTSA recall number23v896. I asked for the repair multiple times, but the dealership repeatedly told me that the parts were on backorder. The hub bolt on my right rear tire cracked and the truck was making a high pitched sound. I took it to the dealer and they said the bolt was cracked and driving it in that condition is dangerous. The truck is not safe to drive, but the parts remain on backorder indefinitely.
The manufacturer is unwilling or unable to perform recall 23v896 in a timely manner. I have submitted my truck for inspection at an authorized dealer, gullo Ford of conroe, TX, on October 6, 2025 per manufacturer requirements. As of this writing, January 14, 2026 I have not been advised of availability of parts to remedy the defect. I am asking that necessary parts be supplied and the recall be performed in a timely manner, as soon as possible at this point.
I am experience the same exact issue as recall reference number: 23s65.
Brought the truck in to dealership July 22 for a recall and they said 1 day till ready so we left it. Now it is still sitting at the dealership 62 days later and still waiting on parts 23s65 rear axle half shaft. 23v896.
I own a 2021 Ford F-150 [lariat powerboost] affected by recall 23s65 (rear axle bolt). The bolts have severed. Ford has advised that my truck is unsafe to drive until repaired. When I brought the vehicle in, I was told parts were available. I drove the car home and later discovered from paperwork that the repair was not completed only the parts had been ordered. I was told not to take the truck on my upcoming vacation pulling my camper. I opened a case with Ford customer care and was originally told parts would arrive before my scheduled use, but now I am told they will not be available for weeks. This creates a serious safety and hardship issue. My family is scheduled to leave for a trip this Thursday that requires this vehicle to transport my family and tow our camper. Ford has not provided a rental or loaner vehicle capable of replacing my truck, despite advising it is unsafe to drive. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Ford’s failure to provide a timely remedy or interim solution for a safety-critical recall that removes my vehicle from safe use.
Drove it out to CA from texas. Purchased for planet Ford who told me the truck was k to drive and no axel problem. Drove it out to CA from texas when we moved in late April - after that went to santa barbara and dashboard controls went dead. Speedometer and may other controls stopped working. Truck felt sluggish. Took it into tuttle click Ford Lincoln in irvine and they said they real axel was about to fall off and took the truck away. They've had it for a month and said they may have it for another 2-4 week or longer.
The rear axle hub bolt on my 2021 Ford F-150 powerboost failed to meet design safety standards and is subject to recall 23s65. The vehicle is currently at a Ford dealership and is available for inspection upon request. My safety was put at risk because the bolt can shear off without warning, causing the rear axle shaft to disengage. This can result in sudden loss of propulsion or vehicle rollaway, especially if parked on an incline. Ford has acknowledged this risk but has not made a final repair available for powerboost models. I was not offered a loaner, and I cannot confirm if the vehicle is safe to drive. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership. They told me they are unable to perform even the interim repair until at least July 22 and that there is no eta at all for the final fix specific to hybrid (powerboost) models. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealer but not by Ford motor company representatives directly. Ford customer service has failed to provide any meaningful support or confirmation of safety. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the recall. Ford states the failure may occur without symptoms, which makes the defect more dangerous. I have not personally experienced a failure yet, but I'm being asked to either drive the vehicle in this condition or go without transportation indefinitely.
On Saturday (April 19th), I looked at my rear tire, passenger side, and noticed a bolt inside my hub. After seeing that I parked my vehicle. This morning I called al packer Ford east, told them I had this issue and know its a recall, the lady told me I needed to drive my vehicle in for them to be serviced, when I told her it was unsafe, she well that not my problem.
Unable to rotate tires or change a flat tire because per dealer Ford lug nuts are swollen and they can not come off with standard tool (lug wrench). Dealer informed me this has been an issue for years but there are no recalls. I was shocked to find out a simple issue like a flat tire can not be fixed due to the simplest designed piece of equipment on the vehicle (lug nut). Dealer stated I can buy replacement lug nuts from Ford for about $200. 00 but they will do the same thing over time. I just found many write ups about this ongoing problem and wonder why NHTSA allows this to not be a recall . . . This is a safety issue. Get Ford to redesign the lug nut, make it a simple one piece design and relace at no charge. If I or one of my family members get a flat tire and is stranded that would not be good!.
Rear axle seal busted because the rear axle hub bolt broke. Dealer indicated this cause the axle boot to bust allowing water into the differential. Dealer stated parts for recall aren't available and/or are on national back order. Ford estimates a fix will be in place 1st quarter 2025. So I am out of a vehicle until this time. Ford refuses to cover a rental.
The rear wheels are locking up at acceleration after stopping.
Tire pressure sensor keeps coming on and says it is faulty. The driver side window will not completely roll down( we have done a reset and it will only work once or twice). With the radio it will sometimes not work(we have done a soft reset and it will work a few times and then stop). The last thing the heat shield that is underneath the truck had a recall we got it repaired and since it hangs down, we have taken to the dealership and they repaired it again and will still hand down.
Wheel end hub bolts. Rear axles.
Ford refuses / is unable to resolve safety recall 23s65/23v896. Ford has stated solution will be available by 1st quarter 2025. It is now April 12, 2025 and Ford reports no solution date. Recall 23s65/23v896 is a safety recall. Ford's description: safety risk this may initially result in a clicking noise as the bolt becomes loose and a rattle noise from the wheel cap if the bolt breaks. Vehicles with damaged axle hub splines may roll in park without the parking brake applied, or, alternatively, lose drive power, both of which may increase the risk of injury or a crash.
Broken right rear axle bolt, f150 with ~37500 mileage, max tow package, already identified by Ford customer "satisfaction" program 22b34.
On November 29, 2023 I took my 2021 f150 to larry miller Ford for servicing and repairs related to recalls 22s71 and 23s35. When the tech was rotating the wheels he discovered that the axle shaft bolts were sheered off on both the left and right rear wheels. The service manager called to tell me that this was a serious safety issue and that only the brake rotors were preventing the wheels from falling off the truck. The service manager told me there was a "customer satisfaction program 22b34" issued by Ford, but no Ford recall relating to the problem. Larry miller Ford has replaced both axles and axle bolts. I am waiting to find out if there is damage to the rotors, calipers or brake pads, a concern since the sheered off bolts were rattling around within that area since breaking off apparently between service visits. I strongly believe Ford should be required to issue a recall on this problem. I never received a notification on csp 22b34. Had it not been for my tire rotation, the wheels could have fallen off at highway speed.
Issues with the 10 speed automatic transmission and the adaptive learning. Rough, harsh, clunky shifting at times. Which could cause excessive ware or even failure I feel. Also, at around 70 mph the truck has this rattle or shaking . Not sure what it is .
My truck has the maximun payload axle upgrade. The axle bolts on the end of the shaft have broken. I first notice squealing sound of metal from rear of truck. I searched on line for the symptom and found the problem. I then removed passenger rear wheel to verify broken bolt. I took my truck for service to morries grand ledge Ford in michigan. They verified the problem, told me it was not safe to drive and have ordered parts. They also informed me that the defective axle is not covered by recall on my vehicle. The service representative did confirm that there are recalls for the same axle but not my vehicle.
The driver's side rear axle bolt sheared off over the course of normal driving. Ford is aware of this problem, advises to not use/drive the vehicle, yet no recall has been issued. Without a recall, getting this issue fixed will take weeks/months and Ford should pay for a rental vehicle since this is clearly a manufacturing defect.
Rear axle bolt broke off.
Heard a rattling noise from rear passenger side wheel. Axle nut is sheared off and freely moving around inside the hub. Looked online and this appears to be common with my vehicle. Ford has not issued a recall still.
The rear axel bolt sheared off. I started to hear a rattle called Ford to see when I could get my truck in to get it looked at. Got an appointment set up 2 months down the road was the soonest they could get me in. While waiting for that time truck stated to vibrate. I decided to try a tire rotation and I had the rear axel bolt drop to the ground. Not sure exactly when I started hearing the rattle. They safety was the tire could have come off while driving which could have caused an accident which could have caused injuries or death of my family or others. I called Ford back they told me to have it towed in so they could look at it right away. So in 4 days my truck will be towed there for inspection. No warning lights about the bolt but I did have one about 4x4 would not engage back on 27/Mar/2023. Ford checked the axel and suspension.
Rear passenger bolt that holds the hub was sheared off.
Bolt that holds the axle on to the vehicle is broken in half and therefore the axle can unexpectedly fall off the vehicle. It is the rear driver side axle. This was noticed when I recently replaced my tires and the broken screw was loose in the wheel.
The axle bolts on both sides of the truck sheared off. The passenger rear axle bolt sheared at 15,000 miles into having the new truck. The driver side rear axle bolt sheared at 21,000 miles. This is a large safety concern and is not unique to just me. The first axle bolt sheared and was repaired once I figured out the problem at a Ford dealer. The second bolt is currently being repaired in the same dealer's service department. There was no warning or detection of this problem other than a rattling sound during acceleration and a wizzing sound during braking. I do not have either of the sheared axle bolts. They were kept by the dealer.
Planned one week, 1,400 miles roadtrip along pacific coast during memorial day weekend. Before starting our trip I went to rotate the tires and upon removing the rear passenger side wheel a bolt and metal gasket fell out. Issue: center bolt that locks the brake assembly to the rear axle shaft was sheared off with remaining half stuck in the axle shaft. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?: the truck would have been loaded for our week long roadtrip up north. On the way back we were going to tow our 5000lbs trailer. This bolt would have impacted the braking ability, cause damage to the rear axle assembly possibly resulting in an accident. If I didn't rotate the tires before leaving who knows what could have happened especially if I was towing. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. Vehicle is currently at a Ford dealer for axle shaft replacement. The service manager had a broken bolt from another vehicle and asked me is this what happened? there are hundreds of f150 owners complaining about the same thing on various forums. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? not yet. I'm glad it didn't get to that point. But from all users that had this problem and got replacement axle for what seems like defective bolts I would hope Ford would voluntarily inspect and issue a recall. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no fault lights but I did hear faint grinding sound when the windows are rolled down. I guess the bolt was spinning around in the wheel.
The service bulletin needs to be a recall. The program number is 22b34 where on all max tow packages the rear axle bolt breaks off. It is very common and need to be addressed and not just a satisfaction program. It happened to my truck at 27,000 miles.
Noise coming from driver's side wheel. Removed the wheel and the axle bolt and washer fell out. The bolt had broken completely off. . Read more...
I took my truck in for an oil change and tire rotation one 3/18/23 and currently has ~13,500. Upon pulling the rear drivers side rear tire the axle bolt fell out as it had been sheared off. There was no notice of the issue and as I understand it could have resulted in my right real wheel to have broken off while driving. The dealer immediately took it out of service and currently is searching the fix.
Ford F-150 csp 22b34 rear r/h axle hub bolt sheared off.
Passenger side rear axle bolt failure. The bolt sheared off completely and was found rattling inside the center cap. Dealer states vehicle cannot be driven. Ford will provide rental until repaired but can’t provide estimated repair date.
Ford stated a solution to this would be available q1 2025, but has not provided one. They had already pushed this back once before. The wheel end hub bolt in the rear axle may become loose or break. Continued driving with a broken bolt may lead to wear within the axle and damage the axle hub splines. This may initially result in a clicking noise as the bolt becomes loose and a rattle noise from the wheel cap if the bolt breaks. Vehicles with damaged axle hub splines may roll in park without the parking brake applied, or, alternatively, lose drive power, both of which may increase the risk of injury or a crash.
Bolt that holds the rear passenger side axle in place has broken off. This was found during a tire rotation at the dealership.
