1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2026

I own a 2023 Ford F-150 lightning, with 48,200 miles and 2. 5 years of ownership. Recently, my truck began displaying a “powertrain / reduced power” warning while driving, and the air conditioning stopped producing cold air. The dealer scanned the vehicle and found dtc p0534 – a/c system charge loss. Further diagnostics indicated that multiple vehicle modules may require reprogramming and software updates. The dealer stated they need to evacuate and recharge the ac system, add dye, and remove front trunk components to locate the leak. This ac system is part of the high-voltage battery and edrive thermal management system, meaning that failure of the hvac system affects battery cooling and powertrain performance. Loss of cabin cooling is a symptom of a thermal system malfunction, which can lead to battery overheating, powertrain derating, and reduced driving performance. The combination of unexpected reduced power and loss of cabin cooling creates a safety risk, particularly during highway driving, merging, or situations requiring acceleration. These failures occurred at relatively low mileage and are associated with the high-voltage ev system, which should be functioning properly to ensure safe vehicle operation. I am submitting this complaint to report a potential safety defect with the 2023 Ford F-150 lightning affecting the battery thermal management, high-voltage ac system, and edrive components, which can result in sudden power loss and compromised vehicle safety.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2026

After a crash into a tree on the passenger side the airbags deployed and the truck immediately caught fire and the doors locked and would not open for any reason. The only way I was able to exit was busting through the front windshield. Had I been severely injured or knocked unconscious the outcome of this would have been much different. The truck burned to the ground in 11 minutes. It has been inspected by the police and awaiting insurance representative to inspect. There were no warning no recalls regarding a crash that would lock the doors and not allow me to exit.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2026

I am reporting a serious safety defect in my 2023 Ford F-150 platinum supercrew (ecoboost engine. The oil pressure warning light suddenly illuminated, indicating a loss of oil pressure. Immediately after, the engine suffered catastrophic failure (it "blew the engine"). At the same moment, with no input from me, the gear shifter automatically shifted from drive into park. This caused the transmission to lock up, resulting in violent skidding and the truck veering off the road. I was able to regain control and avoid a collision or rollover, but the incident created an imminent risk of serious injury or fatality, especially while towing. I have maintained it properly, never missed a payment on the $74,000 truck, and drove it cross-country from arizona to florida without prior issues. Ford motor company has claimed there were "70 warnings" prior to the failure, but I received **zero** dashboard warnings, lights, messages, or indications at any point leading up to or during the event. This is the second Ford F-150 I have owned with unexplained powertrain problems. I traded a 2018 F-150 for the platinum & it repeatedly stalled without reason & required the engine to cool before restarting; dealerships (FL & TN) could not fully diagnose it, with one suggesting an oil-pump-related overheating issue despite no warning lights. Repair estimates are extremely high: gator Ford quoted $17,000, brandon Ford quoted $14,000, veterans Ford quoted $12,000, and an independent shop quoted $12,000 (notably, the independent shop knew the dealership quotes without me providing them). I believe this points to a potential defect in the ecoboost engine's oil pump system (possibly excessive pressure or failure under load/towing) combined with an unintended shift-to-park function in the transmission/shifter electronics, creating a dangerous loss of control at highway speeds while towing. This combination of sudden engine seizure and automatic shift to park poses an unreasonable risk of crash.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2026

Complete electrical shut down driving on the highway on two separate occasions. While driving engine shuts off, dash board goes black, infotainment center goes black. Required to shift vehicle into park to restart after occurrence. Huge safety risk! when taken to Ford service; unable to find any issues and was told “vehicle is safe to drive”.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

We accelerating in this vehicle and you let your foot off the gas pedal, it continues to accelerate for at least 1-2 seconds creating a very dangerous situation, if the vehicle does not DE-accelerate immediately once you take your foot off the gas pedal, it is an accident waiting to happen…very, very dangerous.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2025

Truck is burning oil. Talked to over 5 dealerships and they says it’s a problem that they know about and are waiting for Ford to recall a section of the engine. Heard in naples FL all sheriff trucks are doing it and burning excessive amount of oil.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2025

Reported a burning oil/chemical smell to the Ford service center early August and was told nothing was wrong. 2 days ago same smell appeared accompanied with large amount of smoke while driving. Immediately stopped and found flames behind drivers side front tire in engine. Put out the fire ourselves with fire extinguisher and was towed to nearest Ford service center. Ford states was a mechanical issue with the front differential causing an oil to leak, cause metal shavings, and ignite in flames.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2025

My car sometimes specially when I slow down and make turns it loose power and doesn’t respond to acceleration at all I have to wait 3 to 4 seconds to respond and this happens often a tok my truck to the Ford dealership serval times but always they say we didn’t find any problems with your truck and it’s very scary and dangerous if I am crossing a traffic light or a highway or passing another cars and happening there where I am gonna be in problem and more chances to crash.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2025

On 7/18/25 I picked up F-150 from being repaired (failed belt drive generator/starter tensioner). About 3 hours later I was driving up a long grade at about 5,000 feet when I stopped to check on my cargo (a bicycle). At this point I noticed the cooling fans were running increasingly fast, much faster then they had ever run before. I checked the digital temperature gauge and it showed a normal temperature. I opened the hood and saw there was no coolant in the overflow bottle. I assumed the truck was just a bit low on coolant and I had some (5 liters) water with me so I added that to the overflow bottle. Very little water was visible in the overflow bottle. I replaced the cap, turned off the a/c and immediately headed back to the dealer. At no point did the check engine light come on. At no point did the temperature gauge move from the "normal" area. At no point did any warning message of any time appear on the driver display - unless it occured when I was refilling the overflow bottle. The engine was not operating normally however, the gas engine stayed on at all times and did not cycle on and off as it normally would do (truck is a hybrid). When I arrived at the dealer they attempted to fill the coolant system and said it was completely empty - no sign of the 5 liters of water I put into the system. The cause of the leak was identified as the eghr system, specifically the plastic coolant inlet port. This failure is discussed in Ford customer satisfaction program 24n04 - attached. This failure should not have occured. But when it did occur the vehcile should have warned the driver that a serious overheating event was occuring. No mil was set. No driver warners were made and the temperature gauge remained in the normal range at all times. The only way I because aware of the problem was by noticing the increasing speed of the cooling fans. This could lead to fire, or unexpected engine failure or burns from overheated radiator.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2025

Vehicle lost electrical power to multiple systems- instrument cluster did not display any information- could not tell the speed of the vehicle, how much fuel was in the vehicle, gauges for coolant, oil, etc. Were non-existent, did not have use of turn signals, hazard lights, blind spot indicators, did not have use of wipers, heating/cooling and defrost, could not tell what gear vehicle was in, could not tell what mode the vehicle was in. This made the vehicle extremely dangerous to drive. There have been multiple electrical issues prior to this. All issues have been addressed by Ford dealer and supposedly fixed as of now.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2025

I was driving down the road at approximately 35mph. The vehicle began to sputter and then started loosing power. I was only able to drive approximately another 150 meters and get over to the shoulder of the road. Once stopped the vehicle stopped running all together. The vehicle did have power but only to the electronics. The engine had shut down. I shut off the vehicle all the way and then restarted. It ran fine after that. This was on 01/29/2025. The vehicle had a previous instance where it did not start. It would crank the motor for approximately 6 to 8 seconds, the engine would fire and then shut off after about 1-2 seconds. The fuse box and wiring harness have both been replaced and the vehicle still seems to be having issues that could cause major damage and or injuries/death to the occupants.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2025

2. 7 liter ecobost engine . Cam phaser failure, cam phasers control the performance, air intake and exhaust of the engine. Failure from these parts will affect engine performance and can cause engine damage. Similar recalls were issued for similar Ford 3. 5 liter engine in the past.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2025

This vehicle started having issues. The truck would shut off going down the highway at 60-65 mph. The radio would blink on and off. The truck would shut down and not turn back on for multiple hours. Dealer couldn't replicate the problem. Our son utilized the truck to go and pick up lp gas for us from his shop. On the way back to our home, he stopped at a stop sign and suddenly noticed smoke coming from the dash. He attempted to put out the fire which was then raging under the dashboard and hood. He got the fire out, fire department arrived, truck ignited again. The fire department put out the truck. Son was burned trying to not have the truck explode with gas tanks in the back.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2024

The engine and/or power train malfunctioned, rendering the vehicle difficult to bring to a stop. The longer than normal stopping distance carried the vehicle past the stop line, crosswalk and into the intersection of a crossing roadway. Anyone in the crosswalk or vehicle in the crossing roadway in the path of the vehicle would have been impacted. By placing the gear selector into neutral, the vehicle was finally brought to stop. It is at this point I noted the tachometer read approximately 3500 rpm then slowly reduced to normal idle rpm. These aforementioned symptoms have not recurred since. The incident was brought to the attention of the manufacturer who referred me to the service department (local Ford dealer) who, in turn, did not identify any malfunctions. Service instructed me to monitor the operation of the vehicle and advise them of any problems. No malfunction codes/warnings/lights were present immediately before or after the incident.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2024

My truck jumps/lurches forward after coming to a complete stop, despite the brake pedal being applied. It almost feels like I’m being rear ended. Very scary at first. It happens a few seconds after I come to a complete stop, and every time I stop. Doesn’t happen if I don’t come to a full stop.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2024

On numerous occasions the truck fails to accelerate and bogs down when taking off and turning at the same time. This has occurred when pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy street where cars are going the speed limit of 45 mph. When pulling out and making a turn you push the gas and nothing happens. The truck is basically coasting from the initial take off and is going less than 20 mph. Suddenly the cars that were coming down the road are right on top of you swerving and hitting there horn because they think you deliberately pulled out at the last minute in front of them. In actuality you pulled out of the parking lot with ample space. The problem is the truck did not accelerate. Secondly the truck handles terribly when pulling out of a driveway that has multiple angles. The truck can violently toss riders around in the seat at low speeds. This could cause someone to lose control of the steering wheel. I have reported these problems to Ford dealer. I have either been told there is no problem or told “we found the problem and fixed it” only to experience the same dangerous faults time and time again. I have gone as far as telling the dealer to put in their records that I said “someone was going to get killed in a car wreck because of these flaws. ”.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2024

On 1/26/2024 as I was going in reverse the car started to accelerate out of control, I pumped the breaks and it increased speed, I then tried to power down truck and that did not work. My vehicle ended up going in ditch backwards and I hit a mailbox and ditch. Earlier in the week when I went to go from reverse to forward it felt like it was locked and then it would engage. I do not feel this is safe and will not ride the vehicle as I think there is something wrong mechanically with the truck. Police report will be uploaded in 1-2 days. My email address us mdorse@yahoo. Com 207-400-5213.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2024

Purchased the new truck 12/21/23 within a week or two all the adas signals and chimes continued to flash. A sensor was ordered and arrived months later and was installed. The problems never stopped. Besides the signals all flashing my blind spot in my mirrors stopped working. The dangerous issue is that while I am driving all of a sudden at any given moment my vehicle loses power and it stops accelerating. I am afraid to drive my new vehicle because I am affraid of pulling out of my driveway or driving on the highway trying to change lanes I am going to lose power and get hit by someone. This truck is not safe to drive.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2023

The truck initiated a "stop safely now" alert and would not start. I was in a very bad neighborhood at the time and feared for my personal safety. I had to get out of the vehicle, walk away for 10 minutes where the key fob wasn't in contact with the truck, then tried 3 times to start the vehicle without success. I waited another 45 minutes outside in a dark and dangerous area before I finally was able to get the vehicle to start. This is the 4th time since purchasing the vehicle in may 2023 that this has happened. I've had it back to the dealer 3x to troubleshoot but they can find nothing, they've told me that it is a known issue at Ford but they have not received a fix yet. Ford owner forums provided guidance to "let it sit and then try again 10 minutes later". This didn't work in my event and again, my personal safety was at risk.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2023

Sporadically the vehicle will not start. 200 miles on the 2023 powerboost and this has happened 3 times. Vehicle says pull over safely now and will not allow me to put into gear. Picture of battery on dash. Vehicle always sitting in heated insulated garage. Waited a day and then it starts. Ford mechanic does not see anything wrong and cannot duplicate the issue so no fix is available.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2023

I purchased the truck 2 weeks ago brand new and it has a total of 570 miles on it. After not being used for on day, the truck would not start at all. I receive a warning indicating that I should stop safely now, that full power accessory mode is on and a check engine light. I connected a obd scanner but no codes were generated. The truck should no signs of a dead battery as all electrical functioned other than starting the hybrid electric engine. I contacted a dealership who informed me that I had to have the vehicle towed to them at my expense. I tried multiple times to start the truck again with the same results. While waiting for the tow truck (40 minutes later), I tried again and the vehicle started. There appear to be many claims of this same behavior related to the Ford powerboost engine for several years which I was unaware of prior to purchase. This level of insecurity should have no place when purchasing a brand new $80k automobile as my 13 year old daughter was left stranded as a result.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2023

This is my second f150 that has had severe vibration through the floorboard, steering wheel and gas pedal. The last one the torque converter and steering failed. Both trucks were brand new. This is a serious safety issue. My foot goes numb after about 15 minutes of driving from the constant vibration. Ford acts as this is normal, but this issue has been well documented in the Ford community. There have thousands of similar reports made to Ford motor CO.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2023

Truck wouldn’t start (2000 miles). Dashboard had a “stop safety now” warning light as well as the check engine and battery lights on. All other electronics seemed to be working normally. After sitting all night, truck started normally and drove normally.
