Seven problems related to vehicle speed control have been reported for the 2024 Ford F-150. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2024 Ford F-150 based on all problems reported for the 2024 F-150.
Our 2025 Ford F-150 experienced a complete instrument cluster failure immediately following a manufacturer-initiated over-the-air software update. Component/system failure: the instrument cluster/display failed completely. The speedometer, fuel gauge, warning lights, and all critical driving information are inoperable. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: this creates a serious safety hazard because the driver cannot monitor speed, fuel level, or warning indicators, increasing the risk of unsafe operation. Event details: after the update installed overnight, the dashboard display was nonfunctional upon startup. The vehicle was operating normally prior to the update, and the failure occurred immediately afterward with no other issues. Inspection/confirmation: the vehicle was taken to southwest Ford dealership, where the issue was confirmed. We were told it is an electrical problem requiring repair. The dealership also stated another vehicle there had the same issue following an update. Manufacturer response: the vehicle has approximately 46,000 miles and is out of warranty. We were quoted about $1,500 for repair. We opened a case with Ford motor company (case #cch-07666598-q6y1r3), but coverage was denied. Prior warnings: there were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure. We believe this may indicate a defect in the software update system that could affect other vehicles and pose a broader safety risk. We request investigation and appropriate action.
I was attempting to leave a parking spot when while maneuvering the vehicle it suddenly and unexpectedly accelerated to a high speed into a tree. There is a police report and security video as the incident took place in a hospital parking lot. The truck is totaled and settled but insurance company not interested in liability. My wife and I were injured. I have no idea or explanation for the sudden acceleration. Nobody is investigating if there was a vehicle malfunction or not. I just want it documented somewhere in case it is happening a lot. The crash was violent and occurred from a near complete stop on a clear day with no distractions.
Three incidents happened with this vehicle. When I put the car on reverse and reversed and stopped, the gear was then put on drive and before the accelerator was stepped on the vehicle propelled itself at a very high speed and I had to emergently step on the brakes before it hit anything. The the front collision warning did not come on and the vehicle did not brake on its own. The same thing happened in our driveway and before we could apply the brakes the vehicle crashed into a tree. This time also the front collision warning did not come on and the vehicle did not brake and went and hit a tree. There was a video that captured this incident and was shown to our Ford dealership and they did not do anything about it. We told them that the vehicle accelerates by itself and is a safety hazard. Since this did not involve any other vehicle or pedestrian the hazard was limited only to ourselves, the insurance was charged more than $10,000 to fix the damages and we also had to pay a deductible of $1000. More importantly we are unaware if this has been reported by others and can cause serious injuries to the driver, occupants of the vehicle and other who may be involved inadvertenly. Any death caused will become the responsibility of the driver even though this was not the mistake of the driver.
In 2024 Ford introduced a turn detection in the F-150 (and other Ford vehicles). This feature extends the adaptive cruise control which recognizes speed limit signs and dynamically adjusts the speed control to comply with speed limits. This added turn detection, detects curves that have the yellow highway curve warning signs with the small orange suggested speed limit sign below and automatically slows the vehicle down to at or below the suggested corner speed. The vehicle slowly goes through the curve and then rapidly accelerates out of the curve back the set cruise speed. This causes a huge safety issue especially on highways with higher speed limits where the suggested corner speed is substantially below the general flow of traffic. First example of safety issue: when driving on a highway with a higher speed limit (especially 60mph or higher) with cruise control set for example to 65mph (speed traffic is naturally flowing at), entering a corner with a suggested speed sign of 55mph causes the vehicle to brake unexpectedly bringing the vehicle from 65mph+ to 52mph rapidly. This unexpected braking cause vehicles following to be caught off guard and in multiple cases almost rear end my truck. Second example of safety issue: when driving through canyon highways in colorado where almost every corner has a suggested corner speed, the truck is constantly braking hard into corners and rapidly accelerating out of corners. With the corners so close together in these canyon highways it creates a situation where the truck becomes difficult to steer and keep on the road because of the numerous and rapid speed changes which is very dangerous in a canyon environment. This issue has been problematic since I purchased the truck new, this behavior is acknowledged by Ford when I took it into the dealership to get it addressed and they have indicated that the functionality is working correctly and there is nothing they can do to correct it even though it's a safety issue.
The contact rented a 2024 Ford F-150 lightning. The contact stated while driving 55 mph and attempting to slow the vehicle, the rpms suddenly increased, after which the contact became aware that the vehicle was accelerating independently. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard however, the vehicle failed to stop as needed. The contact shifted to park(p) to bring the vehicle to a stop. The vehicle then returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The contact requested a replacement vehicle from the rental company. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact was unaware if the vehicle was taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The contact was unaware if the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact rented a 2024 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact stated that the brakes failed to respond as needed. The contact was able to steer the vehicle and ended up in a neighbor's driveway. The contact was then able to shift into park. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact informed the enterprise rental car where the vehicle was rented of the failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a complaint. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 25,000.
Multiple times the acceleration has stuck and would not release when hitting the brakes. I have to stick my foot under the accelerator and lift the petal to get acceleration to stop. Without physically lifting the petal it would appear this continues indefinitely.
