Interior Lighting problem #1

2000 Ford F-150. Consumer states wheel rims started to rust out in one year the consumer also stated the bumper rusted out in one year, and the abs light illuminated. The brakes were inspected several times, but no problem was found. The high beams would not come on, the plastic on the outside rearview mirror fell off, the dome light in the cab wouldn't come on, and the tailgate wouldn't close, the windshield wiper washer, wipers and heating system did not work. The power steering pump leaked all the time, the gear shifter wouldn't go into park. The fuel strap failed three years ago and caused the fuel tank to fall to the ground.

Interior Lighting problem #2

Dash instrument lighting does not illuminate when manually turning on the headlamps. The cluster lamps are apparently controlled automaticly by a sensor located on the dash, however it is very difficult to see the dash meters when it is dark enough to turn on the headlamps, but not light enough for the sensor to engage. You can be driving in a rainstorm and headlamps are needed, but the instrument cluster lamps will not turn on and it is very difficult to see the any of the readings on the guages. Apparently this is a well known problem, but Ford will not do anything about it. Just the way it the vehicle is designed. This is hazardous condition that needs to be fixed.

Interior Lighting problem #3

The odometer in my 1999 Ford f150 pickup does not light up when the ignition is turned on until it has been driven for a while. It does eventually come on but has taken longer and longer as the vehicle has aged. This has been a problem for more than 2 years and seems to be getting worse.

Interior Lighting problem #4

Light bulb inside the automatic shifter came loose and was inside console, when I turned on my lights, I smelled plastic burning the light bulb burned a hole through the side of the console which in turn burned my hand, Ford dealership removed lightbulb, but was insisting I pay approx. $900. 00 for repairs, which I refuse to do.

Interior Lighting problem #5

I purchased a 2010 Ford F-150 in August 2010. I recently became aware of a lighting issue on the dashboard control panel cluster. While driving into work one morning at approximately 6:30am, I noticed the instrument cluster lighting had gone off . It was just slightly after sunrise and was still quite dark outside. After the problem reoccuring several more times, I took the vehicle to the dealer where I purchased it, and after a brief 20 minutes or so was told the cluster was defective and would be replaced under warranty. The problem continued and it wasn't until I researched on the internet if any other consumers of this model truck were having similar problems, that I had an explanantion for the problem. Apparently Ford engineered a light sensor that sits on the dashboard and turns off the dashboard instrument lighting when the sensor detects a certain amount of external light. There is no way to properly override the sensor to my knowledge. The problem is that it sometimes will shut off lighting when there are still very low light conditions outside. In several instances, I was driving in low light and the sensor had deactivated my instrument cluster lighting and I couldn't read my instruments unless I took my eye off the road and ducked my head down almost against the instrument panel. Apparently, other consumers are having this same problem and some have reported that they were told by Ford that the system is working as designed and nothing could be done to change it. One consumer went on to say they had fabricated a piece of electrical tape that, when placed over the sensor would deactivate it. In my opinion, this is a significant safety concern. The driver should be able to turn on the instrument panel lights whenever he or she feels the need to. Driving in almost near darkness without the ability to turn on the lights is ridiculous. I hope to see all of their light sensor vehicles recalled and the sensors removed,.

Interior Lighting problem #6

2010 Ford f150. . . Dashboard lights will not illuminate when in very low light conditions or very bright light conditions if equipped with 'auto lamp'. . . It will lonly illuminate in pitch black environments. Instrument panel is recessed 8 inches into dash and you cannot see the speedometer or other guages as you drive. . . . . This is extremely hazzardous as knowledge of your speed is mandatory for safe vehicle operation in any light environment. Ford has advised me 'it is operating as designed'. This is unacceptable as the inability to quickly and accurately read your speed is paramount to driving any vehicle. The engineering shortcoming must be remidied. Google '2010 Ford f150 dashboard light problems' and you get 7 pages of concerns. . . . . . . The only way to make the lights work normally during any daylight condition is to cover the dashboard sensor with a rag. The owners manual section on instrument cluster lights, headlamp switches and even auro lamp and dimmer all state the instrument cluster will illuminate any time any exterior lamp is lit. . . . This is not true. Please look into this matter as it apears to be a serious safety concern,,,.

Interior Lighting problem #7

I have a 2005 f150 and the dome light comes on by itself. I have to cut the dashlight dimmer all the way off for it to stay off. I can bump the dash and it goes out, but comes back on. With this I do not have any dash lights at night. It has been in the shop twice for this and not been fixed. I bought extended warranty for these type things and paid a $100 deductible. It is very dangerous to drive at night without dash lights. Any suggestions?.

It started with dome light staying on constantly - so we go without a dome light and it is unsafe and quite the nusance. Next the door ajar light stayed on constantly - weather seems to play a factor. Next the ignition switch chime started staying on constantly when keys aren't even in the ignition. . . Again weather seems to be a factor. Initially wiggling the ignition switch would sometimes get the chime to stop but now I had to remove the gem fuse(15) as it was the only way to get the chime to quit. I haven't checked yet what else that fuse is used for. It seems that this is a problem for all f150 owners - so Ford needs to fix it!!!!.

The lights can stay on for 1 minute or 30 minutes, occasionally I have to remove the fuse. The problem seems to occur most frequently when the outside temperature goes from cold to warmer weather. I have discussed the problem with other owners and they all seem to have the same problem. It is especially dangerous at night because of the interior light remaining on. I am also concerned with wear on the battery. I feel this is a design flaw and manufacturer should take care of the repair.
