1 Body problem of the 2022 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 09/30/2024

The tailgate has opened randomly on about 4 or 5 occasions most recently the tailgate opened making a right turn while the horse trailer was connected to it and damaged the tailgate. It seems to open on right turns or when washed or been raining. The key is kept in the console and I always apply the parking brake. It is very random. There was a recall/ owner satisfaction program 21m01 but this truck is out of the production date and was advised this was fixed in production so either the repair the "fix" did not work or maybe mine got old stock. The truck has been out of service for this for over 6 weeks and is still at the dealer. Two engineers have looked at it and no answers as of today 11-1-2024. We have another 2022 f350 with different production date and that one has open 21m01 on it which was allegedly fixed.

2 Body problem of the 2021 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 06/17/2023

My F-450 has had the tailgate recall 19s48 completed. However, this did not correct the problem and the tailgate still unlatches and extends without warning while driving. In this latest incident, a cargo trailer I was towing was severely damaged as a result.

4 Body problem of the 2022 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 08/10/2022

Ford has a "customer satisfaction" program in place (21m05) because the tailgate of the f450 can unintentionally come down. These vehicles are designed for hauling and towing, not just driving around town. As such, when the tailgate comes down, the payload could fall out and cause an accident. Also, what is being towed could be significantly damaged. In my case, I tow a large, custom 5th wheel. If I turn with the tailgate down, it's going to create a significant amount of damage and cause debris to scatter on the roadway, creating a hazard for other vehicles. I am troubled that this problem is not a safety recall. Ford is only fixing the problem after an incident has occurred.

5 Body problem of the 2020 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 08/15/2021

On two separate occasions, while towing a 5th wheel trailer, the tailgate opened by itself, coming in contact with the 5th wheel while turning. There was no warning or indication that the tailgate had opened. The tailgate was not opened by a person or by a bumping the keyfob -- it opened completely on its own.

6 Body problem of the 2017 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 06/16/2021

Tailgate opens unexpectedly while vehicle is in motion. This has happened repeatedly over the past 12 months. After confirming that the tailgate was not inadvertently left open or opened while the vehicle was moving, we realized that the problem was internal. We could not find a cause of the problem with the tailgate opening. It caused damage to the tailgate and the towed fifth wheel. Cargo items stored in the truck bed (under the tonneau cover) have fallen out onto the road when the tailgate opens unexpectedly. This could have caused a major accident or death. I believe this truck has an electric tailgate latch release switch in the tailgate handle and I'm not sure whether this is a possible cause. We took the truck to the Ford dealer who advised that the tailgate was not covered by any recall or warranty other than the extended warranty we purchased, for which we had to pay a deductible. The Ford dealer is also denying any responsibility for damage to the tailgate itself, damage to the fifth wheel, or damage from and loss of loose cargo falling out. We paid for the fix to the defective tailgate mechanism but feel strongly that this should be recalled due to the high risk of death or injury when the tailgate opens unexpectedly. Below date is only the most recent occurrence; as stated above, this has occurred multiple times including approximately June 12, 2021, April 20, 2021, September 24, 2020, September 30, 2020, August 9, 2020, and November 24, 2019.

8 Body problem of the 2017 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 01/31/2019

Brought my truck into the Ford dealership because the door was not latching closed at all. The truck is still under warranty and has less than 20k miles. Later that day the dealership called and told me the truck was fixed and ready to be picked up. Less than 48 hours later the latch again would not work. I drove the truck back to the dealership while holding the door closed with one hand so it wouldn't fly open in traffic. They again said it would be fixed and they told me I was giving them 'attitude' because I was upset that it didn't get fixed the first time. Once I got home I called another dealership and they informed me that there was actually a recall for this exact issue. My biggest gripe is that the first dealership never informed me of a known safety issue with my vehicle after bringing it in two times within a three day period. I found it to be alarming that they would send me back out on the road without fixing or even informing me about this potential hazard recall.
