Diesel Fuel System Tank Assembly Problems of Ford F-450

2008 Ford f450. Consumer writes in regards to a safety concern of an auxiliary fuel tank the consumer stated he purchased the fuel tank and it was installed on June 1, 2011. The tank was made of the same material as tool boxes for truck beds. Recently, a single bolt attached on the passenger side became loose and slipped an inch and a half out of the hole securing the tank to the bed of the truck. The bolt threads were stripped up to the end of the bolt. The nut was at the end of the threads of the bolt. The bolt was protruding outward in the bed of the truck and was bent at a 45 degrees. With the bolt bent over, the tank slid an inch forward in the bed of the truck. The driver side bolt had also loosened, but was still secure with a nut. The establishment where the consumer made the purchase, informed him he tank was supposed to be movable. They stated it was supposed to be secured with one bolt on each end.

2004 Ford f450 ambulance. Consumer states defective of the fuel tank the consumer stated as a result of a serious structural defect of the fuel tank, the vehicle stalled during several emergency calls. The coating in the interior diesel fuel tank corroded and collect as sediment which extracted into the fuel system. The fuel line became clogged and damaged the fuel pump and valves.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-450. The contact stated that the fuel tank began to deteriorate due to corrosion from the diesel fuel; the contact was informed during a routine oil change. The mechanic stated that the lining was being eaten through by the fuel. The manufacturer offered no assistance. The current and failure mileages were approximately 21,000. The consumer was informed there was condensation in the fuel tank causing it to rust.

I own a 2002 Ford f450 that I rely heavily on in my small lawn maintenance business. When that truck doesn't run, I don't earn any money and in fact I am in the red. I have discovered through the briefest of on-line searches though that I am only one of thousands who have run in to the problem I'm having now. My truck recently failed during the workday and the cause was diagnosed as a rusty (some are saying delaminated) fuel tank, which along with several related parts had to be replaced for a total cost of over $4200. In the middle of a recession that's giving small business owners the fight of their lives, I had to lose 2 days of work on top of a huge chunk of cash. And as is also true with the stories reported by other Ford owners, I did not use any bio-diesel fuels in my truck. Because my livelihood depends on it, I have made every effort to keep this truck in first rate working condition. This gas tank did not fail because of anything I did or didn't do. I want Ford to man up and take responsibility for this faulty part, issue a recall, and reimburse me for the cost of repairs. The contact stated while driving at speeds of 60 mph, the vehicle began abnormally exhibiting signs of stalling and the contact was able to move the vehicle off the roadway before doing so. There were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove to the dealer. The dealer advised the fuel tank would need to be replaced. The contact stated the fuel pump was previously replaced due to excessive rust and blockage for the fuel injector. The vehicle was not repaired because the necessary parts were on backorder. The manufacturer advised they would contact her when the part became available. The failure and current mileages were 60,000.

I own several Ford trucks, f450, vans and others. All the trucks have problems with the gas tanks, where the paint peels off and clogs the gas tank. I have attempted to reach the dealers where I purchase the trucks from and they don't want to do anything about this.

Failure in lining of fuel tank in f series trucks with diesel engines. Lining falls apart sucking into fuel system causing rapid loss of speed and power. I have been having the fuel tank, and assorted fuel components replaced 4 times total that I am aware of. Possibly more as I am only responsible for 2 f series trucks.
