The driver reported an intermittent burnt oil smell from rear of truck. We found the axle leaking gear oil, with gear oil soaking the brake pads and pooling in the wheel. Took to Ford dealer, where it was confirmed by the dealer and repaired under warranty.

Picked up the brand new f650 rollback tow truck from the dealer in ohio. Traveling back to California with a chevy yukon 2wd on the bed. Approx 200 miles from the dealer the "service advance trac warning appeared on the dash. The traction yellow light and wrench appeared on the dash. I was traveling down the highway. I called my dealer in California to ask what might be wrong. My dealer told me Ford was having a problem with the system and do not have a solution at the present time. However it should not be a performance issue. Continued on with the vehicle. As it turns out not only is it a performance issue its also a major safety issue. First noticed that when pulling away from a stop light vehicle struggled to get moving. Driving on flat ground the vehicle would get up to speed but slowly. The real danger is when braking. After you touch the brakes there is no throttle response to get going again. The accelerator was as good as dead. This happened at 76 miles per hour on the highway. Coming down a mountain at 76 in the number 1 lane. Loaded semi truck behind me speed limit 80 . At bottom highway sweeps left as goes back up hill. I had to press the brake due to a slower vehicle in front of me, I pressed the accelerator and no response. Continued no response as the semi behind me was locking up his brakes to avoid rear rending me. Vehicle reduced speed to 40mph still no response. I darted across the other lanes to shoulder of the road. No response from accelerator. Turned truck off and restarted. Truck sluggishly moved and got up to speed. This was a extremely dangerous situation. My solution to getting truck to California. If I could engage the cruise control when the truck hit 32 mph I could drive truck with the cruise control using the + and - for speed. This would work. However if you hit the brake. Game over. No throttle response. This is the most dangerous truck I have ever driven.

I was driving down the road when the engine suddenly quit. There was no brake assist and no steering assist. I stopped in the middle of the road and could not restart the vehicle. The engine would not crank. There was no transmission gear indicator on the dashboard (likely no can-bus communication with the transmission control module). Eventually I found a loose large-diameter power cable that was loose at the front of the fusebox under the hood, located on the driver-side wheel well. I tightened up the nut that holds this large cable to the stud of the fusebox, and the transmission gear indicator returned. After that, the truck started and drove correctly. Apparently this nut was never tightened at the factory, creating a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-650. The contact stated while releasing the brake pedal and driving from a complete stop, the brake pedal made abnormal sounds. I bought this brand new tow truck in July 2015, equipped with an engine brake. After using it on mountains with high % downgrades, realized the engine brake was not working. I have been complaining for months, and the tow truck company has been trying to sell me the sister truck with that engine brake not working also. Now, I am told that Ford forgot to hook up the engine brake, and the sister truck has been sold to an unknowing tow truck company. Without an engine brake hooked up the engine and transmission, the truck will lose its brakes by getting hot, catching fire, and having a total fail going down a steep mountain, endangering not only the driver, but innocent passengers that own the vehicle we are towing. These trucks carry 5 passengers and a driver, and is a flatbed tow truck that is equipped to carry 12,000 pounds on the flatbed. Somebody is going to die! we thought we had the only one like this, but just found out there is the sister truck that was sold last week. Wow. We have had out new truck in the engine facility and the transmission allison facility upon the advice of the Ford dealer. Nobody knows how to fix it. We are being told that the brake is not hooked up to the transmission, that Ford forgot to do that part. We are afraid to use that truck on the steep downgrades coming in and out of death valley, CA. That is what I bought the truck for!.
