36 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2015

Door latch failed, door had to be tied shut to operate.

37 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2015

While driving on the freeway, my back door suddenly swung wide opened. My dog was in the back seat and I had to grab her before she flew out. I had to pull over then hold the door shut all the way to the dealership. Once at the dealership they fixed one door, and said they were not allowed to fix the rest even though all 4 doors are recalled. . . . My dog could have died, and if it was a child leaning on the door when it opened they could have been killed as well. Ford doesn't care that this vehicle is not safe.

39 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

The rear passenger side door, where my son sits in his booster, stopped closing one afternoon on our way to his soccer game. I used a piece of rope to tie the door across the car to the door opposite until I could get my car into the Ford dealership the next day. I searched the internet and saw an article regarding other 2013 Ford Fiesta's having the same issue. I took my vehicle the next day to the dealership and since I was there I let them know that my car, which only had 15k miles on it, has a problem with acceleration. When I accelerate I hear an airy sound coming from the engine and I lose power so that I accelerate very slowly. This is a huge safety issue when getting onto the highway. I was advised when I picked up the car that the lock was a recall item as was an issue with the cooling system that they fixed. In addition, when they checked for the airy sound they found I have a bad transmission. My service rep said the transmission was on back order for 30 days. That was may 2015. Today is 11/2/2015 and I still do not have the parts to replace my transmission. I have asked several times if I could have a rental car or borrow a car from Ford until my transmission is fixed due to the low acceleration and have been told time and again that they can not "authorize" it.

40 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2015

This past Saturday, I opened my rear passenger side door, and it took a few attempts to close it again. It did not want to latch. I wasn't sure why it happened, and all but forgot about it. Later in the day, I picked up some friends from the airport, and the same thing happened. I opened the door to load in a suitcase and it took several attempts to get it to latch closed again. Then, on Sunday, I lent my car to my visiting friends, and while they were driving the door popped open. It did not fly open or cause alarm, it just came unlatched. When they stopped the car they used the seat belt to hold the door closed. They texted me to let me know what was happenning. We discovered that just only two days earlier a recall had been issued on the door latches on my make and model of car. The most frustrating part is that the dealership says they are not ready to fix the problem. So far they have not received instructions or parts yet. I have an appointment scheduled on June 9th to address another recall issue concerning an emissions part, but I was informed that only if the dealership had the parts and instructions would they address my open door problem. So I will be driving around for at least 5 weeks with a door that won't close. That can't be safe. Meanwhile if the door is not tied tightly the interior light stays on. Fortunately there wasn't anyone in the back seat when the door popped open.

41 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2015

I got out of my car, closed driver's door, it wouldn't catch on the latch. The door mechanism is not in the closed position indicating it was stuck. The door mechanism is in the open position and won't catch on the latch.

45 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

The rear passenger door does not stay closed and will fly open while driving if not secured with rope.

46 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2015

I went to close the back passenger side door and the latch wouldn't catch all of a sudden. With no prior incidents or indication of an issue, the latch just broke - when I took it to the dealership, they said they have had a lot of these types of issues happen because of faulty defective latches from the manufacturer. 3 months later and the front passenger door latch does the same exact thing. And I haven't gotten one notice on this defective latch, before or after my incident. I would think safety would be a major concern for Ford - who would want their doors not being able to shut?? since they acknowledged other cars having the same issue, I don't believe I just received a lemon, but I sure won't be buying Ford again!.

47 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2015

Rear passenger door fails to stay closed. Door latch fails to keep door shut.

48 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2014

The passenger door will not close.

49 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

Front passenger door latch broke internally. The door will no longer latch. It was not abused just closed normally. This is the second time this has happened. The first was the passenger rear door about 2/3 months previous.

50 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2014

The car was parked and turned off. Rear passenger side door was opened and then attempted to close. The door would not close. It bounced of the car. After several attempts and about 10 minutes later the door closed. I have not tried opening it again and I am scared the door will open while driving.

51 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2014

I was driving approximately 40 mph when the right rear door of my vehicle flew open rapidly. I was afraid of the door striking another vehicle or injuring my passenger and had to quickly pull over. In order to pull over safely, the passenger was forced to grab ahold of the door so that I could steer the vehicle out of traffic. Once I reached the side of the road, we examined the door, at first thinking that perhaps it had been improperly shut. We discovered, in fact, that was not the case. There was some defect in the car that caused the door to fly open while the vehicle was in motion. The car was not drivable as-is because the door would not latch so we had to tie the door shut from the interior to drive it home safely. The dealership mechanic was not open at that time. Once home, I could not activate the alarm system so the car sat unlocked overnight with the interior lights on. The lights would not shut off because the door would not close. I drove the vehicle to the Ford dealership mechanic as soon as they opened the next morning and had to miss half a day of work because of the issue. It took several hours for the dealership mechanics to fix the latch and they referred me to Ford motor company to voice my complaints and concerns about a defect that caused me to fear for my safety and that of my passenger. I filed a claim with fmc. Two weeks later I received a letter from Ford motor company saying that my case had been closed. Fmc offered me no explanation of or resolution to this serious safety concern.

52 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

Rear door won't latch. Opened the door to put something in the back seat and now door won't latch.

53 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

Driving down the road at 45 mph the rear driver side passenger door flew open and then would not close. My 13 year old daughter was seated there at the time and almost fell out! called local dealership and because I am 3 miles over my warranty mileage they will not fix. This is a huge safety issue!!!.

54 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2014

The rear driver side latch would not lock and unexpectedly open while driving on 9-11-14. The latch was fixed and less than two months later on 11-7-14 the passenger side latch broke. My son almost fell while driving off since we did not know that the door had not latch. This is unacceptable and Ford is well aware of the issue however there has not been a recall. This is a very dangerous condition and can be extremely dangerous and lethal.

55 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2014

The rear passenger door failed to close due to the cheap plastic door latch malfunctioning. I got it fixed the next day. Literally two days later, the front passenger door latch broke and failed after my friend had entered the vehicle. We did not realize the door latch failed until after I began driving. The first corner I took, the door flew open and he was nearly ejected from the vehicle! had it not been for his seat belt holding him in the car, he would have been seriously injured. Not only is this a serious safety issue, but I was unable to close my door or lock the vehicle in anyway way as a result - leaving my car completely vulnerable and unsecured until I was able to drive it to the dealership (with someone holding the door closed the whole way there) and get it fixed. . . Again!.

56 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

For the second time in three weeks two door latches have failed on my car. Both times it happened while driving down the road and when I made a turn one of the doors came flying open. First incident occured on June 22nd 2014 and the second incident on July 10th 2014. This caused a serious safety concern if someone was not buckled in and could fall out of the car. I had to use a cargo starp to keep the door shut both times while taking it to the dealership for repair. The door latch modules on these Fords are a cheap plastic and become broken very easily with normal use.

57 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2014

While driving the vehicle from orlando, florida to winter haven, florida, I observed the light come on indicating the door was open. I arrived home and checked the doors. The rear passenger door did not close. I can't believe it did not fly open while I was driving. This was on a weekend, so on the 19th of may I drove it to jarrett gordon Ford in winter haven. I had to secure the door using bungy cords and I still was getting the door open light. I asked them if this was a problem or if there was a recall, they said they were not aware of any. They repaired the door. On 10/13/2014, I went to run an errand and when I put the key in the admission, it indicated a door was open. I then noticed the front passenger door with the exact same problem. I drove it to jarrett gordon Ford again and told them that this was frightening. They said they would check all 4 doors. On 10/14/2014 jarrett gordon Ford called me and said that the part needed to repair the door was on back order and it would be two weeks. In the mean time they secured my door using my bungy cords, did not offer me a vehicle to drive and now I am stuck with a broken door for two weeks. This is so dangerous.

61 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

Since shortly after I purchased my car, I've noticed the rear doors are unusually difficult to close completely on the first try. They seem to take a lot of effort to get them to latch properly or else they stay half closed but not completely latched in. I didn't really think much of it until I read a news story yesterday that mentioned a number of complaints about this with doors even opening at speed! I realized that I should let you guys know that I've experienced a similar issue with the doors being hard to latch, although I have been lucky enough to notice and close the doors properly each time it has happened. The back doors on the Fiesta (the sedan, at least) are smaller and significantly lighter than the front ones, so I think that may be why the front ones latch fine on the first try, but the back doors are more touchy. I haven't been bothered much by this, but if it is an issue that needs addressed, I felt you might find my experience to be useful information while looking into it! thanks, have a great day!.

64 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2012

I opened my driver's door and it would not close. The latch would not catch properly to close my door. I called the dealer to complain & wanted to have them look at it but I did not want to drive with an open door, so I called a tow truck & waited in my car but buy the time the tow truck got there, I was able to close my door. I left for work & was late that day. . This happens all throughout the winter. I had a case #[xxx] but was told they would need to duplicate the problem in order to diagnose. I cannot duplicate this problem. It happens randomly when it's cold outside. I've owned the car for almost 2 years & have had this happen to my trunk latch also, which Ford replaced last winter. I still have problems with my drivers door though. I had this problem happen to me probably 20 times or so over 2 years. When it does happen I have to wait in my car with the heat running for about 5 minutes & then the door will close. I called Ford and they are looking at my car now, but I was told I will have a $100 deductible if they have to replace my latch even though my car is under warranty. They said hold onto my receipt in case there is a recall in the future I will be reimbursed. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
