Gauges drop check engine light comes on then wrench light then one shaped like a car n starts loosen power.
Bought the vehicle used in may 2010. Realized early-on that the transmission was not smooth, but willing to settle for less than perfection since it was a 2005 vehicle. In late 2012 or early 2013, I received 'recall' notice that pcm (I. E. - powertrain control module) could need to be reprogrammed due to stalling, herky-jerky transmission, etc. Took car to dealership, they ran diagnostics, charged me $100, and told me that my car wasn't effected because no error codes were noted and check engine light wasn't on. I was not happy, and refused to take my car to the dealership for repair. Problem persisted, until check engine light came on in October 2017 at roughly 125,000 miles. Took to local mechanic, was charged $150 for sensor replacement. Light came back on a day later. Took back, replaced sensor for free (nice!), but light back on a day later. Took to a different mechanic, was charged $250, replaced multiple sensors, light back on the next day. Took back to 2nd mechanic, when they shared with me that it was likely the pcm and the dealership would need to fix. Called dealership 3 days in a row, on hold for nearly an hour the 3rd time, was never connected to a service writer or tech, left 3 voice mails for service manager and was never called back. Researched issue and found NHTSA action number pe11018, where Ford initiated a customer satisfaction program 12n03 to extend coverage terms of repair of engine idle rpm surge caused by pcm needing reprogramming with software containing updated idle speed control. Per NHTSA, symptoms associated with the condition may include check engine light, diagnostic codes (dtcs) p0505, p0506, or p061b. Ford issued bulletin TSB 11-10-21 that included updated powertrain control calibration.
I was driving in town going about 40 mph when the car lost all power, then engine failsafe mode displayed on the information center and a little wrench was also displayed. With no power steering, I had to pull over quickly in lunchtime traffic. After stopping the car, I waited a few seconds and restarted it. No problems with it until the next day when the check engine light came on. I have also noticed a mechanical smell coming from the ac. It appeared, at first, that this problem had come out of nowhere when I suddenly remembered two occasions when the rpms suddenly stuck on 3000 and would not stop until I put the car in neutral. Also, when using cruise control, the whole car shakes and stutters slightly when going up or down very slight inclines.
Only had the car for five months driving doen the street the check engine light came out car stopped in the middle of the street with my children in it and wouldn't start up. . Worst car ive ever bought second major incident that has happend since I got yhe car. It should be a recall major safety violation.
Approximately two months after service preformed under NHTSA campaign pe11018 the vehicle began to accelerate irregularly and then it placed itself into "fail safe" mode and illuminated the check engine light. Vehicle was returned to the Ford dealer that preformed the service and they determined that the electric throttle control was at fault but was not associated with the service they preformed on the same component just weeks earlier. Dealer contacted Ford motor CO and they also claimed the two were not related regardless of the similar claims found online.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Five Hundred. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the all wheel drive malfunctioned and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact merged to the shoulder of the road, powered off, then restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the oxygen sensor and dim module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 150,000.
I have a 2005 Ford Five Hundred with 68k miles. I was leaving a rest area and accelerating onto the interstate. My car shuddered and had no power. I noticed the engine fail safe mode light. I went to the shoulder and stopped the car. I waited a minute and restarted the car. My check engine light came on. This is repeat of symptoms I had two weeks ago. The Ford dealer replaced the thottle body assembly two weeks ago. At that time, I was in line at my grandson's school. Same symptoms except that the car shuddered and then accelerated. Fortunately, I had my foot on the brake. Over the last six months, I have had repeated engine fail safe modes, but have always reset when I turn off the car and wait a few minutes. Ford has a safety issue with this throttle body assembly. Mine has been replaced twice. Car is in the shop for the third time for the same problem.
2005 Ford 500 has issue with lunging when put into gear. Car started to stall check engine light and throttle light came on took it in no one knew what the code was. Finally found out it was the throttle body needed to be replaced. This issue is happening alot on the Five Hundreds. Part is on back order as of today over 700 are on backorder some for 5 months Ford should be held accountable for this and pay for rental cars for people who are put out.
Engine began to lose power while driving in the city(surging). Check engine light came on. Just before getting home the engine backfired through the tailpipe(twice) the car stalled and had to be towed to the dealer. Upon investigation it was found that the engine had blown up. An exhaust valve head and the remains of the piston were found in the oil pan. A new 3 litre duratech engine is going to be ordered under warranty to replace the broken one.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Five Hundred. While approaching a stop sign, the vehicle would no longer go forward. The vehicle would only move in reverse. The contact was close to her residence and drove there in reverse. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they checked the fluid levels and the transmission light. A diagnostic was performed and the pcm and tcm were reprogrammed. In April of 2008, the vehicle hesitated and the check engine light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a service center for another diagnostic and was charged over $500. The current mileage was approximately 17,000 and failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
