The instrument cluster checks normal on most start-ups, but unpredictably all systems light up showing failure of abs, air bags, traction control, electrical systems, see a mechanic, cruise control and speedometer quits working. The warning lights may stay lit for 2 to 200 miles. And no speedometer. Auto zone and my mechanic are baffled and frustrated after checking battery charging circuit connections and grounds. Its obviously not safe driving without knowing your speed or if there is a major hazard looming-----like fire.
After starting car in garage and idling for about 30 seconds, I put car in reverse to back out of garage. The engine rpm's increased significantly, and the car shot backwards until I applied the brake. The car stopped and engine rpm returned to normal. This has happened several times. I am the second owner of the car, and I purchased the car from a private party with about 104,000 miles on it. In speaking with the previous owner, he also had problems that he attributed to the cruise control whereby the vehicle sped up without pressing on the gas pedal. The original owner purchased the car from gentry Ford in ontario, or, and had every service performed there. I, too, have returned the car to gentry Ford for every service, but have not discussed this problem with them, the previous owner did tell them about the problem he experienced.
2006 Ford Five Hundred has a problem with the throttle body and consumer can not find the part to buy. The consumer stated as she backed out of a parking lot, she thought she hit a curb, but there was nothing behind her. She pulled into traffic, but the vehicle had no speed. It was making a strange noise and she had no cruise control. Then a strange symbol appeared on the dashboard. It was a picture of a wrench. The consumer looked it up in the manual, and it said it was the throttle body and to call the dealer as soon as possible. The consumer was informed the part was no longer being made, due to the company who was making them for Ford went bankrupt and there was no date as to when Ford would be putting the part back into production.
