The car is surging and feels like it is about to fall apart the car has low miles and the engine feels like the transmission is slipping but was told that this is a common problem with the Ford 500 I see there is a extended warranty but I just recently purchased this car and seems like the warranty expired and I see Ford is aware of this and refuses to fix this issue which is a hazardous condition and I feel like that im going to have to get a lawyer to get anything done because Ford is refusing to fix this issue with these cars and its very dangerous driving the car makes a loud knock and the engine drops back in and its breaking the motor mounts.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

Throttle body is defective due to build up within the throttle body's valve causing it to stick open or stay closed during reverse and forward driving. This in return causes a surge where at any unsuspecting moment the vehicle wood attempt to drive either in reverse or forward on its own regardless you physically pressing the brakes or the gas pedal. This is an obvious problem wiz 2005 2006 and 2007 Ford 500 and some models other than the 500 such as Ford freestyle Ford montego. This is a very dangerous issue and if not already will cause bodily injury or death. In my particular incident my vehicle have surged on a bypass causing me to almost rear end a large truck at speeds up to 70 miles per hour. There had also been countless incidents of my vehicle reverting into safe mode where my car I had slowed from 70 to 75 miles per hour down to 20 miles per hour within seconds. Both incidents have happened stationary in motion on city streets on highways and while turning. I was told the throttle body's electrical components are faulty and I was to pay $1,000 for a replacement part and installation.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2015

I am very concerned about my safety and that of others. My Ford 500 , especially when it is warm and I am using the a/c, will without warning surge ahead, and I must apply the brakes as hard as I can . I almost crashed while attempting to park in a handicapped spot in emergency parking area at the hospital, where I was taking my critically ill husband 2 weeks ago. I was braking, but the car was surging ahead. The same happened when I was leaving. Very frightening!! can this be fixed without charge at my local Ford dealer? (galpin).

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

During normal driving vehicle dash lights went completely out and then began to flicker while both gauges speedo and tach went left to right on and off repeatedly causing a loss of power on vehicle rendering vehicle unsafe to drive and almost causing collision. . Brought to Ford dealer replaced alternator and problem still exists after 500 dollar expense.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2013

My car makes harsh jerking motion while I am driving. The motion occurs intermittenly so I am unable to predict when it will occur. However, it does happen while the car is in an motion and upon acceleration. After first experiencing the problem. The motor mount of the vehicle was repaired. This seemed to remedy the problem for about two weeks, then the problem persisted. Not as harsh as previously but nonetheless, the ride feels unsafe and the issue happens irratically. This problem has continued for over a year. During this time I have researched online to find that this is a common issue and complaint among consumers. Why has this vehicle not been recalled? this is a pressing issue for me as it is not a secure feeling to lose control of your vehicle momentarily. I also have to consider the safety of my unborn child. The Ford Five Hundred vehicles with major mechanical malfunctions need to be recalled and taken off the market, not simply "fixed. " after a fire or major accident has taken place, it is evident that "fixing" the cars is not the best solution.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2012

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2012

The car lunges forward or backwards when shifting gears also lunges when coming to a stop very violently. I drive with plenty of space in font of me so I haven't hit anything I'm surprised no one else has either.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2012

I have a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. I purchased it used in Jan 2012. My car continually lurches forward while sitting still. The air conditioner will not cool while idling if it is hot outside. I have also had issues with losing all power while driving down the freeway. I will be driving and all gauges will bottom out and then rev up to the highest. My rpms will drop down, the gas gauge will go to empty and at night all electrical lights and dashboard notifications will light up and then go off. I cannot use the air conditioner, radio or anything else when this happens. This is very dangerous and I believe Ford should be held accountable for not fixing this issue sooner! someone is going to get into a fatal accident because of this issue!!! losing all power and speed and then having the vehicle lurch forward is dangerous! #scaredmomof3babies!.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the power train wrench icon illuminated. The contact was able to shut off and restart the vehicle in order to operate normally. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body sensor failed, sending the vehicle into "limp mode", and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted on several occasions. The contact mentioned that the electronic throttle body sensor was replaced twice. The vehicle recently went into "limp mode" again. The dealer performed a diagnostic test, but a failure code could not be found. The vehicle was also test driven, but the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

I was approaching a red light and as I lifted my foot off the brake pedal. . . . . . . . . . . . . . The car accelerated abruptly and I was unable to stop causing me to pass red light, almost striking an oncoming vehicle that was making a left hand turn and driving onto sidewalk. Fortunately no one was hurt and an accident was avoided due to my quick response. The vehicle has accelerated abruptly on several other occasions. I was parked in a publics parking lot when I put my vehicle in reverse the vehicle once again accelerated almost hitting parked vehicle behind me. I was advised the throttle sensor was defective on 2005 & 2006 Ford Five Hundred models and no recall yet! this defect causes vehicle to accelerate abruptly (even when parked) or not accelerate at all! there have been many reports regarding this issue and nothing has been done about it. When a life is lost or someone is severely injured. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Is that when some action will be taken? according to reports even if the part gets replaced it does not guarantee it will not go bad again. Repairs have been known to cost between $450. 00 to $750. 00.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

The car had begun surging hard both in reverse and forward. It happens when stopping and when first putting it in gear. I've been fortunate to have not hit anything yet, but I am fearful that it might happen. I'm seeing a lot of other people having the exact same problem in several forums and websites. I do not understand why a recall has not been issued for this problem as it is obviously a serious manufacturer's defect.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2012

While driving the car rpm gauge was moving upward even though I was still at steady speed. When I slowed and stopped it appeared to continue to lunge forward. I was able to control since I had some distance from the vehicle in front of me. By the time I reached my destination I was afraid that it had a mind of its own. It settled when I tried to park for it then cut off. There have been numerous events when the car lunged forward or cut off while driving and even when I put the car in reverse. I had three (3) motor mounts replaced and new battery along with the safety sensor. It costs more to repair than general maintenance. I see why they stopped making this car. Its dangerous! I am now in the process of getting the throttle body replaced which may not be under warranty. This car should be recalled or we should be compensated for repairs related to this problem.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2011

Lately my 2006 Ford 500 has been acting up when I start it. . . Some days it starts just fine, other days it won't start. It doesn't matter the temperature outside either, it may start in the morning & then when it's time to head home after work it won't start or vice versa. The days it won't start the only way I've found to get it to start (without jumping it) is to turn & hold the ignition key all the way down when I'm starting it & give it gas. Took it to the dealer this morning (11/23/11) to find out the problem. We were thinking possibly the starter was needing replaced. . . We were wrong. The problem is that the throttle body isn't working properly & needs replaced. . . As well as doing an induction service to flush out the carbon build up. This is going to cost almost $1,000 to fix. Are you kidding me?? merry christmas to us!! after receiving the call from the dealer's service dept we did a search online & come to find out that this "throttle body problem" is common in this car. Though when we brought it to the service person's attention & questioned them about it they couldn't/wouldn't answer if this was true. Not sure but maybe there hasn't been enough problems reported to have a recall. . . But with all the same issues that I've found online it makes me wonder. We've already replaced the transmission maybe 2 years after we bought the car. . Thankfully that was still under warranty. What else can go wrong with this car!! we have been faithful Ford car buyers. . However this 500 has turned us off from ever buying another Ford vehicle again.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2011

Cruising approx 65 mph. I heard a thud (like running over a pot hole). The car lurched fwd then seemed to shut off, however it was still running. The rpm dropped below 1000 and the throttle would not work. Placed car in neutral and moved to the side of the road. Noticed the wrench lite was illuminated. Turned the car off and restarted. The car seemed to drive fine after that with no lite. Took the car to have the codes checked. Two codes showed: trottle stuck closed and the throttle forced to idle (apparently a safety feature). Two days ago had to have the pcm and tcm updated and replaced the upper motor mount. From previous complaints there are several with the car taking off and a few of with my issue. All seemed to be attributed to the throttle body malfunctioning which is apparently the case here. Given the amount of complaints and issues concerning this item, surely there is a recall required. At the very least the manufacture should give us what we paid for the vehicle as credit toward another car (any make and model) if they are no going to fix the problem.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2011

Ford 500 lurches severely at random times while the engine is engaged. This happens most dangerously at high speeds, due to driver's inability to control vehicle adequately to defend against potential crashes or control speed during turns. This has caused problems on the snow and ice here in alaska because uncontrolled acceleration reduces traction. Also occurs at low speeds, which is more easily controlled through braking, but requires extreme caution if engaging vehicle when pedestrians or other vehicles are near. It has surprised and scared me on many occasions since I first purchased this car a month ago, but the reason I am writing this is because I had a scary incident today when pulling out of a grocery store parking lot (pedestrians in front of me when it suddenly jumped as soon as engine engaged). Took it to the mechanic and diagnostic check says issues with fuel delivery system. The mechanic stated that after researching the issue this is a very common problem for this model and that it is most likely the throttle body, and says the car should not be driven in its condition. It is one of the scariest issues I've ever had to deal with. After reading more about it on the internet this evening it seems that this issue is very common and hundreds of people have had similar scary incidents with this car that they have reported online. If this many people are writing about it online, presumably there are thousands more who are having the same problem and do not have the resources or know how to report the issue.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

I would be stopped at a stop sign or red light and would push on the throttle to accelerate. The guy would not move at first then would "jump" and accelerate quickly. I never hit anyone because I was careful, but I took it into a Ford dealership to have them diagnose it. They claimed to know of the problem but would not cover it under warranty. I paid over $1,000 to have them replace my "throttle body. ".

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2011

Car accelerates suddenly without having foot on accelerator. It only happens in warm weather when the air conditioning is on. With my foot on the breaking when backing out of a parking space or pulling into garage the car suddenly accelerates. I can handle the problem because I know when to expect it, but I had planned to give this car to my soon to be licensed daughter and I don't want her having an accident or hitting another person.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

Dear sir, my car surges when you take it out of park with the brake applied and release the brake, it will surge either direction forward or reverse, reverse seems to be the most frequent, it does not surge every time about 5 out of 20 times. Very dangerous when trying to back out of parking spaces, Ford dealers said they could find no problem. The problem is very real. .

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

This Ford Five Hundred surges or revs up the engine, in forward or reverse, when driving at slow speeds, usually into parking spaces or at red lights. This is a dangerous situation because we have no warning that it is about to happen. I have noticed it is worse if the a/c is on. We have avoided several accidents by slamming on the brake, it will even continue to surge if the brake pedal is held hard to the floor. The vehicle started doing this within the first 150 miles that we owned it. The incidents are unpredictable and dangerous.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2010

Before July 2010 I began noticing that my engine would race up to 1500 rpm while idling. I would always keep my foot on the brake so the car would not lurch forward. Then on the 4th of July multiple engine errors appeared on the car computer. The Ford dealer diagnosed a throttle body malfunction. After replacement no problem until June 2012. Once again the engine is racing to 2000 rpm while idling at a stop. I am sure that this problem is ongoing with some Ford products and will some day or has caused an accident. It is not a constant rpm rate but the rpm goes from 700 to 2000.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. When the contact attempted to stop the vehicle it began to lunge forward. Extreme pressure was applied to the brake pedal in order to keep the vehicle from surging forward. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the motor mounts and throttle body needed to be replaced. An authorized dealer informed her that this was very common failure among her year, make and model vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 69,000 and the current mileage was 74,000. Updated 11/05/10.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

Purchased a Ford five-hundred brand new in 2006. At less than 45k miles the a/c no longer is functional, unless driven at higher speeds (such as the case on highways). I have had both low and high side pressure valves checked, thermostat replaced, and a/c unit flushed to no avail.
