Wrench indicator light came on and car began to spotter and surge. The next day I took it to the Ford dealership and the wrench light and check engine came on. Car stalled out 2 times on the way to the dealer. Dealer wants $950 to replace throttle body.

Driving at 30 mph on secondary street when vehicle lost power and service engine light came on. Coasted to side of road tried to push accelerator to raise rpm. Rpm remained at 1000 and not enough power to pull back on the road. I turned vehicle off and started the engine back up when power was restored and service engine light went off.

Since 2007 the car intermittently will periodically lung forward and it is almost impossible to control the car. This has happened several times since June 2007 (88,000 miles). Even hard braking does not necessarily stop the car. . . I have had to put the car in neutral the engine revs up as if I am touching the accelerator (and my foot is not on the pedal) and I shut the car off. Turning the car back on does not necessarily remedy the problem. In addition, the car routinely goes into fail safe engine mode or cuts off while I am driving at a reasonable rate of speed both on rural roads and highways. This car is a hazard to drive, more so in the warmer months. . . My thought is something must get overheated but what I do not know.

Was stopped at a drive-thru window and when I went to pull up to receive my food, the car lurched ahead of the window. I put the car in reverse to pick up my food and it lurched so fast backward that I had no control of it, even with my foot on the brake. This caused a crash into the front of another car. I have never had an accident and I am a careful driver. I received a moving violation and there was damage done to both cars. Enough damage that our insurance company is involved. Ford should do something about these lurch problems before someone is killed. Thank goodness no one was in front of me or they would have been killed, please, Ford, do something about these Fords that have this problem.

Cruising approx 65 mph. I heard a thud (like running over a pot hole). The car lurched fwd then seemed to shut off, however it was still running. The rpm dropped below 1000 and the throttle would not work. Placed car in neutral and moved to the side of the road. Noticed the wrench lite was illuminated. Turned the car off and restarted. The car seemed to drive fine after that with no lite. Took the car to have the codes checked. Two codes showed: trottle stuck closed and the throttle forced to idle (apparently a safety feature). Two days ago had to have the pcm and tcm updated and replaced the upper motor mount. From previous complaints there are several with the car taking off and a few of with my issue. All seemed to be attributed to the throttle body malfunctioning which is apparently the case here. Given the amount of complaints and issues concerning this item, surely there is a recall required. At the very least the manufacture should give us what we paid for the vehicle as credit toward another car (any make and model) if they are no going to fix the problem.

Ford 500 lurches severely at random times while the engine is engaged. This happens most dangerously at high speeds, due to driver's inability to control vehicle adequately to defend against potential crashes or control speed during turns. This has caused problems on the snow and ice here in alaska because uncontrolled acceleration reduces traction. Also occurs at low speeds, which is more easily controlled through braking, but requires extreme caution if engaging vehicle when pedestrians or other vehicles are near. It has surprised and scared me on many occasions since I first purchased this car a month ago, but the reason I am writing this is because I had a scary incident today when pulling out of a grocery store parking lot (pedestrians in front of me when it suddenly jumped as soon as engine engaged). Took it to the mechanic and diagnostic check says issues with fuel delivery system. The mechanic stated that after researching the issue this is a very common problem for this model and that it is most likely the throttle body, and says the car should not be driven in its condition. It is one of the scariest issues I've ever had to deal with. After reading more about it on the internet this evening it seems that this issue is very common and hundreds of people have had similar scary incidents with this car that they have reported online. If this many people are writing about it online, presumably there are thousands more who are having the same problem and do not have the resources or know how to report the issue.

Defective throttle body causing "lunging issues" almost had three accidents, just from the lunging. Once I let off the gas pedal the car would turn off, dealer advised that it due to a defective throttle body that they will replace costing me $900.

My Ford Five Hundred throttle just shuts down,with no warning at all. I am afraid to drive it because it may shut down in traffic and some get seriously hurt. I have searched the internet and found more complaints same as mine. The problem is with a throttle body malfunction. Some thing should done befor someone is killed!.

Vehicle goes into fail safe mode and lurches violently in forward and reverse without touching the gas pedal. Started at 45,000 miles infrequently and now occurs about 3 time a month. I am going to replace the throttle body to see if it corrects the problem.

The vehicle has rpm surges at low speeds either in reverse or forward. I nearly had 3-4 accidents in 2 days because of the issue. The vehicle will actually increase up to 1000 rpms by itself while I have my foot on the brake. As soon as I begins to release pressure off the brake while trying to park or negotiate the vehicle at very low speeds the engine will just take off. The first time I noticed it I was backing out of a parking space and the vicle took off backward causing me to have to slam the brakes on. I almost hit a woman who was passing on the other side of the lane.

The engine surges when you put in drive or reverse. This is very dangerous. This is my wifes car and this problem has me concerned about her safety every time she gets in this car. I thought about getting rid of it but I couldn't let someone else have a car with this dangerous problem. I hope someone can find out what the remedy is for this problem. Please help.

A fueld delivery system issue on my 2006 Ford five hindred. The engine accelerates the vehicle during low speeds in forward and reverse, while approaching an intersection with foot on brake. This has happend 4 times in the last week.

This usually occurs while our foot is on the brake at idle speed. Acceleration varies from mild to very noticeable by the passengers. Concerned about hitting pedestrians or other vehicles or losing control of vehicle.

I have been having a problem with my 2007 Ford Five Hundred, when putting the car in gear the car will lurch foward or if putting the car in reverse the car will lurch backward. I took the car to the Ford dealer to find out what the problem may be; cause I thought maybe it was a broken motor mount. I was told that it may be in the motor. I'm also having an issue with the rear passenger door sounding like water build up inside the door. I check the web to find out if Ford had a recall on these issues to find that other owners are having similiar issues.

This problem gas occurred on many ocassionswith near misses on parking and pedestrians and my research has found it to be an issue with the throttle body contol. When is this agency going to help the consumer in a case against Ford?? its been happenuing since 2005 on many of theses models???.

When going slow like pulling into and out of a parking space or going through school line, car will "surge" or lunge unexpectedly. Very unsafe for the people and vehicles nearby.

Car lunges and surges when coming to a stop and idles erratically sometimes. It started randomly but is now starting to do it every time we drive the car.

When the car was still under the 36 month 36,000 warranty it began lunging forward or backward when you first started to accelerate. Noticeably when first taking out of park either going forward or reverse, or when going through drive up windows. (ie fast-food or bank). Intermittently at first and then more and more until it was doing it every time, and at a greater acceleration. The Ford dealer diagnosed it as the throttle body. They knew right off the bat, it evidently was a common problem. We had to wait over a month for them to finally get one in because they were back-ordered . Evidently lots of people needed them! we were advised not to use our car during this time because of the safety issue. Of course the dealer did not want to provide a rental car even though it was under the new car warranty, but after making complaints to Ford motor CO for three weeks while the part repeatedly did not come in, we were given a rental until it was finally replaced 11-2009. Now it is doing it again. I called the dealer and they said the new car warranty is up and they will not warranty their repair because it has been over 12 months. The car now has 41,000 miles and this is the second time this problem has occurred. I should have reported it the first time but Ford seemed to be taking responsibility and the way they talked to me I thought there was going to be be a safety recall. It is a terrible safety hazard. Now that the new car warranty is up their memories have gotten bad. The local dealer (ken garff Ford) told me they are unaware of this being a problem with the 2007 Five Hundred. Which is total bull because they sure were aware of it the first time a year and a half ago. I am really disgusted with my dealership. I am waiting to see what Ford motor companies response will be. Either way I felt it was important to let others know of this defect. I wonder how many fender benders have been caused by this. I am afraid a pedestrian could be hit and seriously injured.

5/20-7/18/11 car accelerated quickly and lurched backward with brake on while backing out of parking space; wrench light came on. Error codes were for alternative fuel control module and throttle actuator control system. Sometimes car lurched forward while braking, engine revved, car shuddered, and wrench and/or check engine light came on. Started happening almost daily. Very scary and unpredictable. Mass air flow sensor and egr valve were replaced. Had same issues 2 days later. Throttle body and vacuum hoses were replaced. Contacted Ford and they refused to cover parts and labor because car was no longer under warranty. Last repair was done 30 days ago and I've had no more problems, but it cost me $1600 to repair.

Car goes into "engine failure mode" while driving. Engine dies and power brakes and steering go out. Went to dealer for injector flush and and throttle body cleaning plus reprogram pcm. Still get "engine failure mode". Very dangerous. My only car. Have been told this is very common problem with these Fords and yet no recall. I am out $340 and no lasting fix. At dealer 5/18/1l. What is wrong with getting this repaired correctly. Went to maroone Ford, 1333 n. Federal hwy. Fort lauderdale, FL 33304. Car now sitting in my garage. It won't run and I'm afraid to drive it. It starts but is very rough and won't respond to gas pedal. Can I try and drive it back to the dealer at 10 mph without damaging the engine? I am retired and don't have the big bucks to repair this car. Will Ford pay for the repair? the failure mode has happened 4 times since the repair but has "fixed" itself until today.

Car lunges when coming to a stop or backing. Took car in for an oil change and brake job. When I picked my car up, it was running rough sometimes stalling when letting off the accelerator. In addition to spontaneously lurching forward, the engine will race when put into park. I have come close to hitting other cars, parking garage walls, etc due to this problem. My dealership now is telling me the throttle body is not within the proper parameters and needs replacement. After some research this seems to be a common problem.

My Ford 500 lunges forward when applying brake or going into reverse. I read about the freestyle investigation on lunging and my 500 is doing the very same thing. Investigation needs to be done on the 500 as well because it seems I'm not the only one with this problem.

Ford Five Hundred started lurching or lunging when placed in gear. From a parked position. . The car lurched back into the wall of the carport crushing the back bumper. On another occasion the car lurched when the door was open and knocked into the carport post. Very dangerous.

The car lunges in drive and reverse without accelerating. The is danergeous as when backing out of garages or parking places. Trying to take off slowing is not possible.

Some months ago, my car started to oscillate in ralenti from 700 to below 500 rpm, when braking even stops. Some times decelerate suddenly, frequently slow response when accelerate, etc. Ford local dealer told me this is a regular problem with this throttle body on this engine models, and I have to replace it. I am aware this is a common issue on 3. 0l v6 engines due to I have a friend with a montego 2005 with same problems. So far, no Ford company recall was advised. I do not agree into replace this part, should be Ford responsibility.

Car surges forward/backward when engaged in gear from dead stop and brake is released without having even touched the accelerator. Seems to be worse when heating/cooling fan is on, especially on recirculate, and rpms will surge/race at dead stop with brake firmly applied when the steering wheel is turned to either side. Problem is especially noticeable in parking lots or anywhere in low speed stop/go driving conditions. Concerned for pedestrian safety as I have had the car jump unexpectedly and nearly hit them. Check engine light came on a couple of weeks ago and car went into limp home mode indicating error codes p061b & p2016 which means the throttle body needs to be replaced after driving in deep snow, extremely cold temperature after car had been sitting for 3 days, the check engine light has cleared but the car continues to have the surging issues though it does seem worse in warmer weather than cold. So far I have not replaced the throttle body though I intend to as soon as I can get ahold of the part.

Last year I began noticing that this car upon putting in gear trying to exit my garage would surge forward or backward, whatever way I was pointed ,abruptly. It does not matter whether I am in reserve or drive . I would have to apply brakes to stop it. Sometimes more than once. This would happen if I was backing out or driving forward. It did not go away and in fact became worse. It finally lunged backward as we were leaving a parking lot and the engine stopped. A wretch symbol came on. We took it to Ford. They replaced throttle body part. Was fine until the last month or so and now is worse. Have approx. 77 k miles on it now. I have scheduled to take it back to Ford. I feel this is dangerous as this surging and lunging could result in someones injury. There is obviously a defect somewhere in this part. I have noticed throughout the internet that are many such complaints of this same problem.

I own a Ford 500 2007. The engine seems to rev up with out pressing the gas pedal. If you are at a stop sign and release the brake the car will lunge forward on its own. I spoke to a mechanic about this problem and he has encountered it before with other 500's. He told me its the throttle body. He told me when he orders them they are on back order.

When you shift out of park into either reverse or drive the car surges forward very quickly. If you don't hold the brake to the floor you can't stop it. This is very dangerous! when unloading my children at school I almost ran over a child due to this defect. When I looked online I found thousands of complaints about this same issue. Ford won't recall it and the parts (throttle body assembly $800) are on a 2 month back order!.

The throttle body on our 2007 Ford 500 stuck closed causing engine to stall. The throttle body had to be replaced. Fortunately this happened on a 2 lane road but my wife had just got off a high speed interstate highway. Failure caused rapid deceleration of the vehicle leaving her stranded in the traffic lane. This would probably have resulted in an accident if this would have happened on the interstate. The car has around 37,000 miles on it.

I have a 2007 Ford Five Hundred that had less than 60,000 miles when the throttle body began to fail. This causes the car to jerk forward and backward as I am taking my foot off the brake. I have almost hit a pedestrian once and other vehicles on more than one occasion. I took the car to the Ford dealership, was told it was the throttle body and there was not a recall even though this was very prevalent in the Ford freestyles. I was also told it would cost at least $700. 00 to fix. They did clean the throttle body for which I paid $70. 00. That was about 2 months ago and it is jerking again. This is dangerous as I cannot keep my car from jerking no matter how slowly I move my foot from the brake or not completely.

My 2005 Ford 500 began to surge when changing from park to reverse and also when changing from park to drive . At time it would change from 800 rpm to 1500 to 2500 rpm . Very scary in tight quarters and in a parking lot . Other times it thought it was a Toyota and just take off. Fault codes did appear and the dealers first try did nothing to fix the problem . The last time was on the interstate. It terrified my wife. We dropped it off again at the dealer and was told that the repair part would take 14 days . Does Ford have that many problems ? I checked the internet and many Ford products are having throttle body problems . The replacement part was completely different from the original.

When vehicle is in drive or reverse and there is a load on the engine (a/c on high) and you turn the steering wheel, the engine accelerates on its own. This happens every time I go to turn at a low rate of speed, in drive or reverse. The garage said it was the throttle body that needed replaced. They also told me this was a common problem and the part was on back order.
