Ford Flex owners have reported 108 problems related to body (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Flex based on all problems reported for the Flex.
The recalled b pillar has detached this weekend in the front of the left driver's side b pillar- it seems as it being held on by the keyless entry components. It is at approx 25 degree angle to the body of the car. As an added consequence of the redirected airflow- the driver's side door is very cold as air is getting in where it previously didn't. I scheduled with the autonation amherst dealership for evaluation and repair. When I called back to move the appointment it was cancelled because I was told there is no fix/no parts. ???.

B-pillar trim molding on passenger side fell off while going through car wash.
I brought my 2019 Ford Flex to world Ford pensacola for two open safety recalls: 25sa9 (rearview camera) and 25sb8 (b-pillar trim). Despite the b-pillar trim being already detached (failed component), the dealer refused to document the inspection for recall 25sb8. Furthermore, on invoice #xxx, they incorrectly documented recall 25sa9 as ‘only for mustang’, even though my vehicle is a Ford Flex. This dealer is providing false documentation and refusing to record safety-critical defects on the official oasis report. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The trim on the driver's door broke in half causing it to fly into the traffic behind me.

I know that the 2015-2019 Ford Flex is being recalled for rear camera issues and "b" pillar mldgs. Coming loose. My 2014 Flex has these same issues. What about earlier models?.

While driving at highway speeds the side b pillar panel became unattached and broke off.
I am getting a "transmission not in park" error that will also sometimes flash "door ajar" while driving. Door appears to be closed - not sure if it's latched, transmission is obviously not in park because the car is moving. I'm concerned that this shouldn't be driven and is a safety issue.

1) trim piece that includes the keyless entry pad on driver's door, broke off while driving 80 mph on highway. The keyless entry pad was left hanging on by the electrical cords. It is available for inspection as it has not been fixed yet. 2) I didn't see where it went, but it had the potential to fly off and hit any cars behind me. 3) car has been inspected by mechanic at Ford dealership and provided cost for part to fix. 4) car has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance rep, etc. 5)no warning lamps, messages or any symptoms prior to failure. I honestly thought something hit my car. I ended up pulling over to assess the situation. It was then that I noticed the panel broke off and the remaining piece was left hanging.
Keypad on driver’s side door became dislodged on the highway, flailed around, hitting the side of the car and window in the process. It then proceeds to break in half and flies off going down the highway. Then since the bottom half is still plugged in, it was flopping around and hitting the car while going down the highway. Extremely dangerous.
While driving down a highway at 70mph, the keypad on the driver's door detached from the body and was hanging by wires. We had to pull over. We couldn't get it back in so we put the window down and had to zip tie it to the door frame, leaving the window down for our entire long trip. We were afraid it was going to fly off and hit the car behind us, causing damage and a safety hazard. We took the car to stevens Ford jersey city and had it repaired. This is a cost we paid for. The only warming sign was a constant whistling sound we would hear.
On 6/4/2025, the driver side front door b-pillar trim piece separated from the vehicle. The tape that joins the trim piece to the door sheet metal completely sheared. The adhesive is still fine but the form separated. The part is connected only to the door through the wire hardness of the keyless entry. TSB 20-2427 stated the issue is "loose". But the actual issue is a flying part with a connecting string.
B pillar trim on drive-side door has fallen off multiple times when driving at speeds I’d say about 50mph. Have been lucky not to have lost it as it was barely held on by the keyless entry cord.
The black glossy plastic applique on the driver's door window frame (also containing the keyless entry keypad) blew off on the expressway at approximately 70 mph. While the wire harness retained the lower portion of the applique, the applique cracked from the force of the separation, for which the bottom third of the applique hung from the harness whereby the upper two-thirds of the applique became a projectile and flew onto the expressway. After sharing this with a friend (also owning a 2019 Ford Flex), he said his came off last year. Upon further studying this matter, it appears that in Ford's wisdom they only used small strips of double-sided tape to retain this; for which there are many reports of this same failure mode: [xxx] in their infinite wisdom, Ford now only sell the applique panel with the keypad (Ford part number ba8z7420555ac ), rendering it at a msrp of $228. 83 just for the replacement part. The Ford parts counter person said they sell a lot of these, due to the poor design and retention. As this is a hazard to others on the road (e. G. Potentially becoming a projectile) Ford should be forced to recall this defect. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
B pillar trim was lost going down the road. May of 2025 unsure of date.
The passenger side b pillar trim flew off on the highway! the driver side is also loose.
Water ingress into rear side door latch - froze - door opened while car was in motion.

The issue is that the pawl spring tab in the side door latch broke. The door does not close. If closed manually by manipulating the latch to close it, the door may open while driving. There was a recall for this exact issue a few years ago but I feel it needs to be opened back up and more models added to it, like the 2016 Flex. Here is the article from a few years ago: https://media. Ford. Com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2016/09/08/Ford-expands-door-latch-safety-recall-in-north-America. Html.
The plastic panel on the driver's side b-pillar which holds the keyless entry system detached and was dangling from the wires was able to pull off the road and tape it down before it flew off into traffic.
The keyless entry keypad - driver sides b-pillar front door’s trim panel came loose while driving on I-95 today (approximately 70 mph). It was not apparently loose before this event. It dislodged and hit the rear passenger window. This is a safety issue because, were the window down, it would have hit a child passenger. Additionally, with the force that was exerted on the window, breaking the glass was definitely a possibility. Lastly, it was very startling to the driver. The dealership did confirm this issue. They provided a TSB - tsb20-2427. There was no warning that this would occur.
Repeated problems with door latch system in 2013 Ford Flex. Door is interpreted as being ajar, despite being closed. Two warning lights/messages to this effect persist, interior lights will not turn off (which drains the battery), doors will not automatically lock while driving in this condition and as I understand it, if an accident occurred, the airbags would not deploy due to the doors not being 'locked'. This is a serious safety issue and causes continual drain on the battery if left in this condition. The only way to sometimes get it to recognize the door being shut is to repeatedly close the door, often having to slam the door shut; this can take up to 15 attempts. Driver's door has been cycled & subsequently replaced six months later. We are taking it in now for a likely 2nd replacement on this door alone. The rear right passenger door & front passenger door have each been replaced as well. The first two repairs/replacement on the driver's door were under warranty, the remaining 2 replacements (and upcoming additional replacement) have been and will be at our own cost. This same door latch system has been recalled on three different occasions on other Ford models, yet not on the Flex. There should be a recall on this 2013 Ford Flex and we should get refunds for our out-of-pocket costs for this repeated and known problem.

The passenger door latch cracked and door would not close. This is exactly as described in a recall of other Ford vehicles from the same model year, however, the Flex was not included.
The rear power lift gate will at times unexpectedly come down on you while you’re standing under it and won’t go back up… it has hit me in my head multiple times… and may be the cause of the compressed disc in my cervical spine… it happens mostly when it’s cold, but now that it’s 65° (los angeles) it’s still doing it.
Door sensor states door is ajar when it is closed, causing battery drainage and safety concern about doors.
The front drivers door latch. When the door is shut their is an alarm stating that the door is ajar. Per Ford their is a customer satisfaction program 19n09 for it. I bought this vechicle Monday June 20, 2022. Per Ford they notified me of this issue as well but they will not fix it as it is past the 84,000 miles/7 years as well as the 120,000 miles and July 31, 2020. This vechile per the records has been services at thoroughbred Ford in kansas city, mo since the day it was bought and yet it has not been fixed? and now they are not willing to fix it.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Flex. The contact stated while rolling down the driver’s side window, she noticed some resistance and black marks at the bottom of the window. The contact stated that the seal around the window was deteriorating. The contact also stated that the failure was occurring on all the windows. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

The passenger-side front door latch sensor is defective. The door latches securely when closed, but the door ajar warning light remains illuminated. This leads to several issues including: - interior lights don't turn off for a very long time after the door is closed (I. E. On the order of 30 minutes after parking and 5 minutes when driving), - the alarm system goes off randomly and frequently when the vehicle is parked and locked (sometimes multiple times per hour), - the feature that auto-locks the doors when the vehicle is in motion does not work, - if one locks the doors while the vehicle is in motion, they will immediately unlock themselves. The above issues lead to several safety concerns including: - the interior lights being on makes it difficult to see while driving at night, - the interior being illuminated after the vehicle is parked and locked creates a security exposure, - the child safety lock features do not function as intended as the doors cannot lock while the vehicle is in motion, - the alarm system repeatedly triggering is annoying as there is no way to turn off the alarm system. That is, if the car is locked, then the system is armed and will trigger in time. The rear passenger-side door had this same issue a few years ago. Ford has a customer satisfaction program recall for this issue (19n09), but it only applies to the driver door and only for cars less than 7 years old.
The right rear door keeps showing that it's open on the dash when its physically closed. The alarm goes off at night when the vehicle is locked because the door will randomly show it's open when its actually closed. I was told by Ford that the parts were $450 plus dollars to fix the problem and that's not including labor. Ive also found out that I'm not the only Flex owner dealing with this issue that should be covered under warranty.
Rear park assist camera does not activate when in reverse. Read passenger door lock pawl fracture-NHTSA recall. Ford refuses to repair the recall because they did not issue the recall. This door has a fractured pawl lock/latch on the rear passenger door. Car does not detect key. We paid additional for fob annual replacements, Ford refuses to replace the fobs even when its faulty. I recorded this call. . . And every other call.
Flex is a super long vehicle with large rear latch door that accesses back half of car. Today, taking dog to vet, put him in crate in back, behind another crate, through rear door. However, battery was dead. Now needed to get dog out to go in another vehicle -- but rear door locked and there was/is no way to open the back up to get him out with dead battery. Only with electricity. So I had to take out both crates and get him out through the front -- long process. If there had been emergency, he'd be dead. Danger -- no mechanical way to open back access door of vehicle! not even emergency lever or key. I checked with Ford.
Door adjar. Door opened while driving. Door randomly unlocks and sets alarm off. Has caused a dead battery. Will lock & unlock while traveling.
Door ajar warning light comes on and all dome lights, when door is closed. Says door is open when it is not. Can not get dome lights to turn off, draining battery.
Door latch will not latch. Door will not close or lock. This happens when shutting door so door does not stay closed.
Door latch failure. Noticed problem with door ajar light lit for a couple days. Subsequent battery draining problems. Seems due to keeping lights on in car because it thought doors were open even though they were securely shut. Within couple days front doors were totally inoperable. Could not open from inside or out of car. Required entry from rear seat. Then upon driving to dealer for diagnosis the door ajar light lit up and released the door latches so that both of the doors attempted to open while driving at highway speed. This condition happened twice. This issue seems to directly mimic multiple known issues for Ford Flex models and many other Ford models around this same time. At this time, 2015 Flex models are not included (despite the obvious exact same condition). I have been notified by my local dealer, fulton Ford in fulton, mo that it will cost me nearly $1000 to repair both front doors that failed at the same time. Repair is to take place on 01/30/20 (was diagnosed on 01/29/20). They have checked and acknowledge this might be a wider Ford issue but our car simply doesn't have a current recall so nothing they can do. Seems totally out of place since there is enough evidence that this is an ongoing problem with Ford door latches.
