Car will not idle when stopped at a light in the city, when shifting into drive from park, runs rough at low speeds while in traffic and going though parking lots. Started one morning, ran horribly, stalled and hasn't started since. The back door doesn't stay latched when shut.
Had good tune up,car was doing good and now just as I have read problems with the fuel system,is exactly what happened out of nowhere starts giving me issues starting and staying running. After testing I have 90%of fuel pressure which should only be 40-45 max????was checked in shop over a week and looking through recalls I believe it is a defect in the fuel system the fuel is going somewhere but not allowing car to run. To take off there is no taking off ,like the oedal does nothing just for looks. Would like to hear back.
When vehicle has ideled or traveled at slow speeds for a long period, the vehicle will not accelerate. It will also stall has lost fuel efficiency and driver can smell fuel. Mechanic states the fuel rail pressor sensor is leaking. Mechanic states part is on national back order. One can only assume that back order is caused by same or simillar malfunction.
Slow acceleration, loss of power, surging, hesitation, stalling.

On 7/27/2012, the car caught on fire while being driven. The smoke started coming into the interior through the vents. When attempting to pull over, there was no brake (my guess is that the brake line had melted. ). My husband used the e brake and park to stop and someone yelled. . . Get out of the car. My husband and son jumped out and the car became engulfed. There is nothing left. He told me that just before that it started hesitating some, like it was going to cut off, but didn't. For a more detailed statement please contact him. I am so thankful that they got out. . . Thank you,.
Driving on 4 lane highway, car sputters and stalls as if out of gas. Coasted off road, and after a few minutes car started and ran fine. Car has been doing this every few weeks. Changed coil, plugs, plug wires, oxygen sensor, fuel filter, cat converter and still stalls. This car is dangerous when it stalls in fast traffic. We only drive it now during daylight and short trips because it is not dependable.

The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the roadway for a brief moment. The failure recurred sporadically over a span of four years. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 03v482000 ( fuel system, gasoline), which the VIN was included, however the recall was expired. The vehicle was not repaired. My 2001 Ford Focus exhibits all the symptoms of the faulty fuel module. However, when I contacted Ford, they said that my VIN was not one of the vehicles affected. I'd like the fuel module replaced, as it is faulty. Can you please help me?.
I am writing to you in regard to a host of problems I am currently experiencing with my 2001 Ford Focus zx3. These problems include, but are not limited (1) gears not shifting properly and signs of locking up during driving -- and brake grinding sounds; (2) continuous "flickering" of headlights and dashboard panel lights; (3) air conditioning and heating systems not functioning properly; (4) large pond of water (during heavy rains) in floor on front passenger side; (5) problems with fuel module and fuel monitor; and (6) transmission failure in progress. transmission failure in progress -- ecm codes erased by dealership -- fuel monitor and bad running condition very evident. he further stated the fluid is burnt very badly , he cannot service the transmission at this point and that this vehicle is going to go downhill from here. In other words, the 2001 Focus that I purchased from town & country Ford, inc. Only nine months ago is not drivable and it will cost at least $2,000 to replace the transmission. This is clearly a defect. It has to be! I cannot afford to repair this vehicle and make payments on it at the same time.
After car has warmed up for 30 minutes approx. It restarts after turning engine off but will not idle on it's own. The driver must keep there foot on the gas pedal at all times, except when car is moving and engine is engaged. The car has a standard transmission. This doesn't happen everytime. But after car has warmed up and has had the engine turned off 2 or 3 times this accores. If the engine is allowed to cool down for 15 min. To 45 min. The car will idle again. The time is dependent on the outside temperature.
Car has stalled while driving on several occasions on the freeway and in residential neighborhoods. The car has also been in several times for excessive break noise. On one occasion the rear drums had to be turned due to drums being glazed over. Dealership either changes out the pads or adds an additive to soften the pads to stop the noise.
