On Nov 12, 2010 my car would not start. I had to have my vehicle towed on Nov 13,2010. Per the tow truck driver the reason why my vehicle would not start was because of a defective ignition part. Later that night on Nov 13, 2010 my vehicle once again began to work. I called the local Ford dealership service department to inquire if the was any recalls pertaining to this part. They told me no. Again on Nov 17, 2010 the problem began again. I did not drive the car for several days until Nov 20, 2010. Today Dec 1, 2010 I was left stranded due to my car not starting again. This is a safety concern for me because I have spoken with several mechanics as well as tow truck drivers who all have informed me that recently many Ford Focus vehicles they have either worked on or towed have all had the same problem as mine. As of now I will have to pay all costs out of pocket for these repairs for a well known defective part that the Ford company refuses to put a recall on the vehicles that are affected by this problem. This company needs to own up to this problem that is a huge safety concern!!!.
Key is stuck in ignition, vehicle will not start. My son was stranded.
I own a 2002 Ford Focus wagon, the key will not turn the ignition, therefore the car will not start. This has been going on for about a month. Today oct 12, 2009 the key would not turn the ignition and the car would not start so my child missed school today because of this. This is getting frustrating I have only had the car since April of 2009 and this is causing me grief. I will not buy another Ford Focus due to this frustration.
Key locks up in the ignition and will not turn. The car would not start.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Focus. When the contact attempted to start the vehicle, the key would not turn inside the ignition. As a result, the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the ignition needed to be replaced. The contact did not notice any differences beforehand. The current mileage was 147,000 and failure mileage was 126,000.
1) no warning symptoms 2) failure is that ignition key will not turn. Car will not start. This is a mass defect, but fort apparently is not issuing recall. 3) have not done anything. Car was towed to my home, and is sitting there useless. Dealerships tell me it will cost $300 to fix, but Ford should repair this for free.
The key stopped turning the ignition switch. The car cannot be started.
: the contact stated without warning, the vehicle would not start and was towed to the dealership who determined the ignition needed to be replaced. The vehicle worked properly for two years, and then the vehicle wouldn't start. After an hour of trying, the vehicle started and was taken to an independent repair shop for inspection.
The contact states at any time the ignition will not turn in his daughter's vehicle. If the key will not turn the ignition the vehicle will not start. The contact states he has had the vehicle repaired. The service dealer extracted and replaced the ignition lock cylinder. The service technician stated that this was a defective part in the Ford Focus and it was a common problem that happened all the time. The consumer asked if there was a recall, and the service technician said no, but he should call NHTSA and file a safety complaint. The consumer filed a complaint with the Ford motor company.
No start, no crank. Randomly car will not start, and there is no cranking either. Happens once or twice a week. Shows dashes on the digit display. Car may start after 10 minutes or 3 hours - can't tell. Has been taken to the dealer once. Problem not replicated, but service found a technical service bulletin for the VIN, and 2001, 2002 models which specified this exact problem, suggesting replacement of a specific part for supposedly a dpfe shortening. Even though this part alone was changed, problem recurred just after a couple of days. Vehicle now again at the dealership. This is a really annoying problem, and I'm now afraid to take the car anywhere, even if it comes back from the dealership supposedly after being 'fixed', as there's no telling when the problem will recur, or if the car could even stall in the middle of a freeway!. Have requested dealership to keep the car for however long it takes to replicate the problem, but not sure if they'll do it.
Upon putting the key into the ignition it would not fit as if it was the wrong key. Upon getting the key in the ignition it would not turn over, and the vehicle would not start. There were no warnings. Took vehicle to the dealer, but problem recurred.
Upon putting the key in the ignition it got stuck in the ignition and won't come out. When consumer tried to turn key over over vehicle will not start. Took vehicle to the dealer, but the problem recurred.
My 2002 zx3 began having problems after only owning the vehicle for six months. The first problem was with the locking mechanism which would make a very loud buzzing noise when the doors would lock. The second problem began last winter when the car would not start after sitting outside overnight. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership five times over the last year for this problem and each time they inform me that the problem is fixed. However, the problem is not fixed and my vehicle continues to be unreliable.
