I drive a 2002 Ford Focus sedan. My engine light is on, warning light for trunk door ajar light is on (even though the trunk is securely locked, my front headlights due not work consistently (sometimes work, sometimes don't). My trunk does not always latch secure after I close it as well. I took my car to advanced auto parts and had my engine light diagnosed. Engine codes that resulted were: b1318, b1881, c1947, b2438, b2434, p0457. The representative tested my battery and found that the voltage was slightly lower than it should be. My concern is for my safety as well as the safety of others. Do we have some manufacturer defects on this particular vehicle? have other concerns which could be the result of vehicle wear and tear, or/and due to manufacturer defects as well. Inner tie rods need replaced as well as control arms/bushings, as reported to me by a mechanic. I have seen recall reports related to the 2002 Ford Focus in which there has been issues directly related to what I'm reporting, which is another reason I'm filing a report. Thank you.
At speed of 40+mph and uneven highway or when encountering a manhole cover the rear of the car sways and shimmies left to right in an extreme manner. Noticed much worse with new tires that grip well. Have had it inspected by a professional who says all vital parts look okay. 4 wheel alignment did not remedy. I see references to a design issue with the upper control members that make it impossible to reach a correct camber setting. I don't trust much on the internet though, and would like NHTSA guidance or further information. Thanks for any help you can provide, I appreciate it.
Tl- the contact owns a 2002 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 50 to 60 mph, the suspension spring on the front left side snapped in half and produced a sharp point and shredded the front left tire. The vehicle was towed home. The tire and spring was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 120. Bd.
The front sub frame on my 2002 Ford Focus zts was completely rusted through and unable to support the front suspension. I also had my car inspected by a Ford dealer who passed it and told me nothing about how destroyed my sub frame was. When I took it to a mechanic they told me it was so bad I shouldn't be driving the vehicle. The bolts where even rusted out of the sub frame. Its believed that this also caused my motor mounts to have to be replaced. Cause such bad vibration that it ruined all my shocks, struts, and all 4 of my tires. The tires where only 5 months old and are destroyed.
The front subframe structure on my 2002 Ford Focus is rusted so badly that it no longer supports the front suspension it was designed to support no other it on this vehicle is as rusted as the very important part.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Focus LS. While driving 35 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle would not steer and the steering wheel locked. After stopping the vehicle and inspecting the problem, he noticed the left strut spring collapsed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified. The failure mileage was 38,000.
Tires wear out every 10,000 miles have replaced tires 5 times now was told it was because we didn't rotate. 3 line ups done and rotated every 5000 miles we are now on set number 6 of tires and the dealer can not explain why we cant get even 1/2 the life of the tire.
The vehicle swayed from left to right and there was a popping noise coming from the rear also.
The 2002 Ford Focus se comfort wagon has been a continual problem of not staying in alignment (named the rear wheels worst that the front) for more than 5000 miles before needing addition adjustments. Tires have lasted less than 20,000 miles (regardless of manufacturer) before totally worn out and needing replacement.

Consumer took vehicle to dealer due to suspension's erratic behavior which caused vehicle to bounce around. Dealer fixed 4 wheel alignment. Problem reoccurred.
Inside corner of rear tire, approximately three inch strip on each tire, wears excessively. Tires have been replaced at 9,000, and at 20,000. Still belt tread is showing. Consumer maintains problem is vehicle and not tire. Contacted manufacturer and dealer. Problem has not been resolved.
The vehicle is experiencing severe wheel/tire thump, which causes a vibration in the steering and a loud audible noise in the cabin, the manufacturer is aware og the proble but a solution was not available for some months, the fact that the consumers vehicle had high mileage the manufacturer would not repair the vehicle free of charge although the vehicle was only 12 weeks old.
