Fuse continued to blow out causing entire left side of lights from front to back to turn off until new fuse replaced old. Was connected to continued lifting of hatchback on wagon model. Electrical harness was arcing and insulation flaking off and would have caused a fire had not the harness been replaced. This had been on and off for approximately 2 years starting with blowing out the bulbs then the fuse started blowing out in Jan 2021. Midas replaced harness this March. Car is a 2005 Focus wagon,.
Today my accelerator got stuck when pulling into a parking lot with my kids. I was luckily not going more than 10mph and was able to quickly put the car into neutral and stop the car without hitting anyone or anything. Earlier in the day I noticed it took a little more effort to push the gas pedal down, but not by much and after the car resting for several hours, it wasn't an issue anymore. I wasn't expecting it to be an issue later on. As far as electrical issues go; my headlights do not like to stay on. I have to play with the wires where they connect to the headlights in order for them to turn on, but they often do not stay on, and they frequently will turn off and on while driving, sometimes it's just one side, or alternating sides. This has been an issue for over a year and everytime I have work done to fix it, it only fixes it temporarily and it's back to doing this all over again.
Throughout my ownership of 2005 Ford Focus wagon ses zxw, I have had periodic issues with the rear hatch unlatching on its own. I will unlatch while driving on the highway. Sometimes it will unlatch when depressing the brake pedal. Although it will unlatch upon the start of a trip at slow speeds as well, it has mostly occurred on the highway. I have owned the vehicle since 2007. The problem would occur periodically 3-7 times every 1-1. 5 years since the 2008-2009. The problem definitely occurs under a damp and morning dew condition. It's like an electrical short has occurred I my vehicle. The latch stopped working in 2009 via the push button in the dash and even with my remote key. I checked the fuse panel . . . And it was not blown. This condition mostly occurs while the vehicle is in motion.
First issue: on several occasions, when stopping the car, parking, and attempting to remove the key, the key has become stuck in the ignition and cannot remove it--- sometimes for a few days, other times for a few weeks, at which time it simply comes out when attempt is made. Second issue: gears occasionally slip upon accelerating, resulting in finally slamming into gear.
Takata recall car randomly shuts off but radio is still on at stop light. I put it on nuetral and it starts back up no problem.
The backseat doors will not latch and or lock. They have to be held together with zip ties. The randomly opened while I was driving down the road. This is a serious safety concern, as I cannot use my care to transport my child. I know other versions of this same vehicle have had a safety recall issued for this, and I am curious as to why my specific model was left out when I am experiencing the same problems. This car is no longer driveable.

Car started normally. Dashboard lights came on as usual. Lights went out in sequence as usual. Normal driving started with no abnormal dashboard display. Moments later all dashboard light started flashing off and on eratically. There was no effect on driving that could be discerned. All the car handling features seemed normal. As driving continued some or all of the dash lights would come on and off eratically. The only light that stayed on when the rest went out was the engine symbol light. The fuel gauge also indicated no-fuel eratically.
Turn signal stopped working. Removed rear tail lenses to replace all the bulb and found brake/turn signal socket fused to interior portion of tail lens inhibiting removal due to heat warpage. Will contact dealer for replacement sockets for right and left sides and lens replacement for right and left sides. This should be a recalled item due to hazard of no turn or brake light and poor design to allow bulb to produce enough heat to cause thermal reaction and possible fire hazard.

This is the third time I had to place front left and right head lamps and high beams . I brought this car off of enterprize dealer in nevade. Over the years I bgain havein lots of problems with this car. So much needed to be done on this car and I spent lots of money too. Not knowing untill now this car has some recall issues. Passenger rear door replace and broken again. The rear brake are rusted and needs to be replace, drums pads ext. . Noice in the stearing weel when I turn the car.
The back door drivers side will not lock. The drivers door will not open from the outside. I replaced the door handle but it will still not work. It does not seem to be touching opening mechanism.
The left rear turn signal stopped working- the blown bulb indication was noticed by the fast flash signal on the dashboard indicator. When going to replace the bulb it was found that the upper socket for the turn signal socket is melted to the lens cover. The lens cover socket mounting hole was distorted by heat. Once the socket was removed the bulb was found not to be blown. The socket housing shows internal signs of heat damage -color change. The bulb was in position in the socket and the bulb base showed no sign of melting at the bulb contact points. It appears the heat was generated in the socket connection to the bulb base. There are multiple complaint of a similar finding on multiple years of the Ford Focus that were easily found with a internet search- Ford Focus melted socket. Purchasing replacement socket from dealer as this is a major personal safety issue.
Referring to case # [xxx]. Upon further inspection it was determined that the root cause of the short was in fact the small bundle of wires going into the liftgate. Repairs have been made to all affected wires. Including installation of a brand new headlight switch Ford certified. Cost of repairs 2347 dollars and 97 cents. Upon reading other complaints on this website I've seen at least 40 other cases caused by the same bundle of wires. This is very dangerous and as you can see could potentially cause a vehicle to burst into flames while driving. Something's gotta be done. Since we received the car, we have noticed inconsistent acceleration and deceleration - both in town and on the highway. This particular incident was a simple slowing down for a stop light. I pressed on the brake gently to start coming to a full stop behind a few cars. As my car tried to slow down, I noticed it was fighting to slow down. I pressed on the break harder, but it wasn't going to be enough to stop without hitting the car in front of me. I tapped the accelerator, then back on the break, no change. Not knowing what else to do, I put the car into neutral. The engine did not stop revving up so I turned the car off. After waiting a minute, I turned the car back on and operated fine for the remainder of the day.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 65 mph all of the warning lights would flash on the dash board and the vehicle stalled, nearly causing a crash. The contact drove onto the emergency lane and restarted the vehicle within four minutes. After restarting the vehicle, the identical failure recurred. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer who performed a diagnostic test which did not identify or duplicate the failure. The contact stated the failure occurred four times prior to taking the vehicle to the dealer. The contact was concerned since the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The failure mileage was 77,000.
2005 Ford Focus station wagon rear hatch: the wires that go to the hatch (near the top) are too short and so weak that after 26,000 miles the wires broke and due to this break/short the car would not go out of "park". The brake lights quit working and it blows one fuse after another fuse. Due to the wires being so short it is impossible to repair the breaks. This appears to be a very common problem from what I see on the internet. Ford should be liable for these repairs.
On 2/26/2011 at approximatly 1900 hrs. I was at nellis air force base in las vegas nevada I had to pull over in a safe area to look for my id as I got out of the car with the car in park and emergency brake on I proceeded to lift the handle in front of the seat that allowes it to be moved forward so I can look under the seat for my id,I couldn't see it so I proceeded to do the same with the passanger seat and it wasen't there so again I was on the drivers side and again pulling up the handle and my right side of my face and ear was within an inch of the side air bag when it explodedand nocked me up against the drivers door frame and the airbag powder was all over me and for 30 seconds I couldn't see or hear. My face was on fire with acid burns all over my face and my right ear. I was seen at the er and was treated which included a cat scan of my hear to see if there was any internal trama and that was negative however I had developed tmj because of the impact to my jaw and migrain headaches which have not subsided to this day. All reports and pictures id taken were sent through e-mail to Ford claims dept. I was sent the paper work to fill out and send it back to them,in March 2011 I have to got to a dealer to have the chip red and it cost to have that done was $103. 48. It states that the dtc b1231 restraint system was sufficient impact to warrent a deployment yet indicates that no collision occured. So then now the modual needs to be taken out by the dealer which I went to Ford and they refused to help, so that evening went to another Ford and they helped it took them January 2012 to coordinate with Ford to take out the modgual, I just found out a week ago June 14th. That bosh is just now taking a look at that product that was sent to them in January 2012. 16 months later nothing else has been done and I don't know what else I can do. I'm having problems with the car hesitating while driving. This has repeatedly happened. I have a little over 90,300 miles on the car. It really scares me when I'm going at least 60 mph on the highway and press the gas to accelerate and then get the hesitation or pullback as if it is going to cut off. I'm afraid it is going to cut off while I am driving it. It also happens when I'm driving 35 mph. When this happens and I cut the car and start it back up, the clock resets to 12:00 and the radio comes on blasting. My lights flicker when it happens at night. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the fuel pump module. This has not helped one bit and I am out $462. They have quoted me a price of $1500 if the fuel pump module replacement did not work. They tell me it will probably be the pcm that needs replacing.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, the failure continued intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for diagnosis but the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The hatch back lid started opening when the rear window defrost was turned on. This has resulted in many inadvertent opening of the lid while driving. While researching, I found a recall for the 2000 Ford Focus assigned NHTSA 00v411000. I pulled back the rubber boot which protects the same wire harness at the hinge point of the lid. I discovered multiple cracked and exposed wires, and on wire broken it two. I desire for this to be a recall item just as you did for the 2000 model. I have pictures if you desire.
My car fails to start until I crank it 3 or 4 times. Sometimes it begins to start then sputters and dies. It has been an everyday thing for about 3 months now. It happens about every time I go to start my car with a few times it starting right away.
Noticed on the way home from work on Friday that when I clicked on the left turn signal, it went in a "fast blink" which usually means a burned out bulb, short, or blown fuse, but usually just a burned out bulb. Once I got home in the driveway, I get out and test the lights and see that the front left turn signals are flashing fast, and the back left turn signal is not flashing at all. I'm still hoping for a burned out bulb at this point. I make a note to change it out in the morning. On Saturday oct 4th I pull off the left rear lighting assembly, consisting of two screws holding it to the car, and I find two bulb connections; the bottom one (brake lights) has a normal quarter turn and pull out connector to get to the bulb. Only that bulb is fine. The top one also has one of those "quarter-turn-and-pull" connectors, only it does not "pull" heck it doesn't even quarter turn, it's frozen in place, and the back side of this light assembly is melted into an egg shape (supposed to be round). Now I'm not into just a bulb any more. It's Saturday, and my nearest Ford dealership is on m-f bankers hours, so I order a replacement from autozone for $100 which should be here this week. I see from NHTSA web site that there are no existing recalls for this issue, however somebody else apparently has also submitted this exact same problem. I will be asking my Ford dealer about it this coming week, but I am also filing this complaint to document a part failure on a car that is only three years old, and whatever the reason; this failure involves electrical systems, external lighting, melting plastic parts, and failed safety equipment. I leave it up to you to determine if further action is required. Updated 02/19/10. The consumer stated the issue with the melted assembly around the brake light socket was not limited to the back left, but also present in the back light tail light of his 2005 Ford Focus station wagon. Updated 02/19/10. Updated 08/20/jb.
Thursday morning, (10/6/05) I was driving northbound on the dan ryan i94. I was in the left hand lane in rush hour traffic. I noticed white smoke coming from the front of my hood. I thought I must be overheating, though that seemed weird since it was fairly cool outside and nothing on my dash showed distress. I pulled quickly to the left shoulder, turned off the car and decided to call road side assistance. While on hold a strange smell started to fill the car and I noticed more smoke and the smoke was getting darker. I grabbed my bag, and got out of the car. Within a minute, there were small flames coming from the front of the car. I began to walk quickly away from the car along the shoulder. All this to say that the car is totaled, the fire department made it before it exploded. . . . But it is destroyed.
The cigarette lighter popped out and landed on papers and vehicle caught on fire. It burned the passengers in the middle between the to seats. Have not contacted the dealer. This happened Monday August 15, 2005. The consusmer sustained burns on right hand.
The icon seat belt indicator comes and goes as lit and then some times it is not visible when vehicle is in motion (engine running).
