Engine speed (rpm) intermittently increases, or fails to decrease when throttle is released. Progressively worsenening. Last night, stuck at interstate speed and kept engine at high rpm. Wife semi panicked hit brakes and pulled off on shoulder. After 2 hour wait, still sticky, but driveable. Many identical reports/fixes on utube. Possibly related fault codes p0410 , p0491.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Focus. While driving at a low speed and approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle accelerated independently. As a result, the contact almost crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The failure recurred two times. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Engine suddenly started revving up and when brakes applied couldn't stop vehicle completely and lunged forward. Was able to keep control by applying brakes and getting to a parking area, when placed in park the engine went up to 50000 rpms.
This speed control problem nearly cost me my life the other night and fortunately no accident. I was driving on highway and it felt like peddle stuck. . . Car accelerated and would not slow down . I kept hitting gas to try to release it, thought mat in way and it wasn't. Let the record reflect this car has this problem for many and if I get killed. Good luck Ford motor CO. This is the 3rd time. And everyone says its just a problem with car. Well, this problem could kill someone.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal will not push down and allow the vehicle to accelerate. The contact stated the pedal has to be constantly pressed or turn off to attempt to get the pedal to work. The contact stated that while driving the pedal will get stuck and the vehicle will start to slow down and not accelerate. The vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer. The vehicle will stop if he applied the brakes, this failure happened intermittently. There were no warning indicators. The failure mileage and current mileage were both 13,000. The vehicle has been towed to a Ford dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed at this time.
