1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2021

Car stalls when no fuel is given, at red light, stop sign, even just slowing down while making a turn. Occurs on city street and highway during stop and go traffic. Brought car into mechanic - did diagnostic, etc. Could find nothing to cause engine to die suddenly. Have happened multiple times. Was instructed to contact Ford dealer.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

I made an appointment with Ford had my car towed over so they can do a diagnosis on the transmission which they charged me me $110. 00 dollars and. I highly doubt they even checked the vehicle I had to tow it back to my house. They tried charging me. $4000 for a new transmission which they are aware it's defective on Focus and fiesta models instead of telling me that they went and let me spend $300 plus dollars on nothing I had tried to change out transmission oil and it worked for a while. I am a college student on a grant. And I feel Ford risked my life by not informing me how bad the transmission is on this vehicle plus on my service history they lied and said they serviced my car which is not the case.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2019

"takata recall" computer or cluster gives off senor lights and it's not the problem(such as emergency brake on, and many more). A Ford dealer has replace, cluster, wiring harness, control box and does not fix the problem and claims they can't do anymore, but called a Ford engineer who does not return calls, per dealer.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2017

2010 Ford Focus doors do not open at all from the outside or inside of the car . The remote will not disengage and will keep doors locked. A person cannot just pull on the handle inside or the lock stem to unlock the doors. The door actuator on all four doors need to be replaced due to dust going inside the mechanical parts and oil's creating mud issues. Ford mechanic advised that they seen lots of Ford Focuses with the same issue costing the customer a financial burden due to a faulty design which Ford updated the original design to fix the issue, admitting to the bad design sold to the public. People were trapped in the car and cannot get out due too doors not disengaging, the handles are stiff/locked.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Transmission problem in motion 2 year back and suddenly was going slow with full acceleration on i25.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2017

My 2010 Ford Focus ses door system isn't working out of no where. Sometimes my door locks won't lock, sometimes they won't until to the point I can get out of my car. The owner before also had this problem and got them fixed. Now my rear door won't open at all. A couple people I've talked to they report similar things. This a huge safety problem. . I have a four year old is scary knowing something could happened I might not be able to get her out because of this door issues. Since it's already been fixed, I'm nervous to fix it also and it goes back to this.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2016

My rear passenger door lock failed while driving, causing the door to swing open when braking.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2016

My 2010 Ford Focus that I bought back in December of 2015 is having a latching problem with the back passenger door. It will not latch shut when parked. Tried greasing the latch but it didn't help. This has been going on since I purchased the car.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

I believe these two items are related: within the last year or more the car did not have smooth, constant acceleration. The vehicle surges slightly off and on while at highway speeds regardless of whether the cruise is being used or not. We took it to Ford and they cleaned the throttle body however the problem reoccurred periodically. Also, within the last month, the vehicle stalled twice on different days while operating at highway speed with no indication that it was going to happen. At the same time the "wrench" light would illuminate. The vehicle would start after pulling over and cycling the ignition. We again took it to a Ford who again cleaned the throttle body. Were told that they were pretty sure the throttle body needs replacement but they cannot replace it because the "wrench" light does not stay on long enough to give a code. We were told that we can replace it at our own cost but they won't replace it at their cost without a code (which does not register).

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2016

Vehicle stalled at highway speed without warning. The vehicle restared after cycling the ignition.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2016

Doors lock and wont unlock at time trapping you in and the car goes thur tires like crazy but I'm really worried about the doors traping you in the vichle at times.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Parked put shift in reverse. Car dies and wrench light comes on 8-10 tries recently.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

Door locks working intermittent to a point of not unlocking all together. Passenger doors will not open, from the inside, when the door is locked, with child protection lock disengaged. This is a dangerous situation if a fire or traffic accident should occur. Checked online and numerous complaints of the same issue exists on Ford products.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

The rear passenger door latch had been sticking on occasion, making it difficult to open the door with the outside handle. In mid-may, we began having trouble getting the door to latch when being shut. At times it would latch after several tries, or when being slammed extremely hard. In mid-July, the latch stopped working all together. We now have the door strapped shut from the inside making it impossible to drive this car when taking more than one passenger, and the door ajar alarm sounds each time you turn a corner.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

The car started jerking forward at a stop light - turned the heat off and it stopped jerking. Pulled into a parking space and put the car in park it started revving itself and jerking forward (made it up to 2000rmp before I could turn it off). Was at a stop sign and the car started jerking forward - before I could turn the heat off the car stalled out completely. Took to the dealership said the throttle body needed to be replaced. Car jerked forward: idle, park and occasionally in drive. I know that other Ford models have had problems with the throttle body and I believe that Ford recalled and fixed the other models. It makes me wonder if the Focus is having the same problem as the other models did. Maybe the recall should be extended to the Focus also.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

The back door locks will not unlock; I have tried to change the "child proof lock" to be disengaged, but how do you get the door open to even change it if the door won't unlock. This happens on and off; not all the time; sometimes the door will open; sometimes they won't. This is very dangerous if you needed to get out of the vehicle in an emergency. Was there a recall on these doors? thank you.

17 Equipment problem

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2014

Not provided by Ford cabin air filter benefits a cabin air filter is an air purification filter, sometimes called a “micro cabin air filter” or “in-cabin microfilter,” designed to remove the microscopic dust, allergens, pollutants and other particles that come into the passenger cabin of your vehicle through its air vents. In addition to making the air in the interior of your car unpleasant and unhealthy, a dirty cabin air filter, clogged with dirt, dust, smelly mold and allergens, can also impact the performance of your defroster, heating and ac, and health hazards.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2014

The rear doors will not unlock from either the inside nor outside.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

Hankook premature tire wear. Tires only last 17k. Ford and hankook will not honor warranty. Vehicle makes loud noise driving down the road and vehicle is more susceptible to hydroplanning. Tires are worn on the inner side. Ford customer service refuse to acknowledge a problem buy has several TSB covering the premature tire failure/wear.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

It started at on time when going to exit the stationary car, I could not exit the car because the lock would not unlatch, you could not open the driver or passenger doors from inside our outside. Now it has moved on to all the doors, sometimes they work and open sometimes they don't. I have replaced the driver door handle 3 times already for the same issue each time, in the handle latch itself there is a little plastic piece that keeps breaking inside the handle not allowing the handle to pull open the door. And now the last issue when taking off the locks automatically lock after a couple of seconds when driving sometimes they lock sometimes they don't. I can no longer lock my car when leaving it because you never know if and when the locks will open as well as which door will choose to remain closed and not open. . . . I have had to go in through the trunk several times quiet embarrassing. I have brought it to my local Ford company several times for them to fix the issue, they tell me it is my problem not a manufactures defect. . One door yes I could understand all four doors no there is a problem with the system. I believe this is a very serious safety issue because I can not always get my child out of the back seat because there is no guarantee that the door will open please look into this I have dealt with it long enough and can no longer continue to worry about my child's safety, my safety or the lack there of protection of not being able to lock my own car without knowing if I can get back in let alone someone else getting in. This has dated back to when my original warranty fell off.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2013

While driving down the street I was a slight curve turning to the right and the car drifts while turn. It feels like the car is losing control. I keep replacing the tires but every few months I have this issue.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

I took the car in for the 120k service. The service was completed. A week later I took the car back and asked them the check a yellow crusting under the dashboard in the front passenger footwell. They did and said they did not know what it was or what would cause it. A week later we noticed a smell in the cabin. The car was now 3 years old and we had had a similar smell 18 months prior that cost us $1800 to replace the ac core. Surely this could not be another ac core problem. I took the car back to them and they found nothing wrong. . . Even the smell had gone. I took the car and on the way home I noticed the car was beginning to overheat. . . Ford was already closed. I pulled over and checked the radiator. I topped it up and it took a gallon of water. I watched the level for a few minutes and it didn't move. I drove home ok and rechecked the radiator. . . Same level. It drove the following day ok too. Then in the evening I noticed it was getting hot again. This time I was on the highway doing 70mph and it suddenly cut the power on the engine. I was in the middle lane and had to Dodge traffic to coast to a halt on the shoulder with the engine at idle speed and no power. The car was in drive and my foot was floored, but the engine produced no power whatsoever. . . Didnt even rev high. When I checked the radiator again it was very low and took another gallon of water. I managed to drive home again but neither the ac nor the heater would work. We also noticed the carpet in the passenger footwell was now wet and the smell was back with a vengance. I took the car back to Ford and they told me the heater core was the problem and had cut the power to the enging because the car was overheating and to prevent further damage to the engine. It cost me another $1800 for the heater core and the carpet to be replaced.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2012

I purchased this 2010 Ford Focus sel brand new on 12/31/09. Sometime in 2012 (I estimate around 12/13/12), I purchased a new set of tires (approximately $600) as I noticed the car sliding at stops and skipping on acceleration. I had the car in a Ford dealership (jim keim Ford, hilliard, OH) and was shown the undercarriage of the car and how the tires were wearing unevenly, wearing on the inside. Into the next year, I again started noticing the unusual wear pattern and had to purchase another set of tires on 6/27/14 at 56,000 miles, $625. On 6/24/14 I also had to have the sway bar links replaced, $271. I cannot find the receipt for the first tire purchase, but bob sumerel tires (614)237-6325 would have purchase record of both tire sets. My car only has 58,000 miles on it now and for it to be on its third set of tires definitely says excessive tire wear. This is also very dangerous driving with these tires wearing and is a constant worry with all the checking I do to make sure the tires are ok to drive on. I would like this money refunded (approximately $1500). I have receipts for the second set of tires and the sway bar links if you need to see them. Thank you.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

Would lose rpm's at idle and almost stall. Went to dealership (no help), could find nothing wrong because no codes, even though engine was still idling ruff for them. Dealership was not happy that I brought the car in before 50,000 miles, stating I shouldn't need tune-up til this mileage. Went to a local mechanic (certified) who couldn't find anything, again no codes. The problem continues to date. Going to mechanic for idle sensor replacement, hoping this will help.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2012

The doors, randomly, do not unlock. Every door has had this issue. . . Randomly. The weather is not the issue, this has happened in all types of weather. I have researched this , via google, and I am not the first to report this. Why has there not been a recall fix? the passenger side back door has not unlocked for three weeks. Today the drivers side door will not unlock, causing me to have to climb over to exit through the passenger side door. . . Not safe. I called the dealer, no surprise, they had heard of this issue. From what I have read, I expect to be charged, between $400 & $1200 to fix a manufactures defect. . . So very wrong! nor will I be paying for it! again, what good does it do to report this thousands of times, when this has been happening for at least 15 years, at a cost to the consumers?.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2012

I have complained about my door locks on the back of my car for the last two and a half to three years and no one listens to me. It is a safety hazard for me and my grandchildren. I can't take them with me because the locks don't unlock. Not a safe thing if a accident happened. Couldn't get anyone out of back seat. Please help me. I know I'm not the only one with this.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2011

I took the vehicle in for its 60k service at approx 62k. All was ok. About 2 days later I noticed a funny smell in the cabin. I put it down to whatever chemicals they used on the 60k service. About 3 days later the smell was getting worse, but also the ac wasn't cooling like it used to and my then 9 year old daughter passed out in the car because of the smell. I took it to Ford as the incident happend striaght after the service and they said nothing they did would have caused it, but it looked like the ac core and the smell was pag oil. I took the car to another garage and they said there was no freon in the ac system. They recharged the system after checking for leaks and not finding any. A week later (two weeks after the initial service) the ac was not cooling again. It must have been something Ford did. . . Again there was no freon in the system. They gave me the same story and that it would cost me $1800 to get it fixed. . . Why should I pay $1800 on a car that's 18 months old? well, because I needed the ac in the middle of the summer and its the only car I have. I complained to Ford directly asked them to pay half the cost and they said I was "not using the ac correctly" and as such would not pay for anything. I took the car back to Ford and they showed me the "correct way to use the ac". . . The same way I use the ac.
