This recall began in August and still has not bee remedied. We have been trying to buy a new car and were told the car is unsalable until this recall is satisfied. We no longer have a warranty on the car and every day we drive it will cause a loss to the current value and the risk of repairs. There is no satisfactory timeframe for this recall to be remedied. Even Ford will not take the car back on trade.

While driving through town. . . Canton, texas. The drivers side rear door latch failed and the door flew open when turning right. My 85 year old mother was sitting next to the door, in a seat-belt thank god. I pulled over and tried closing the door several times. It would not catch on the striker. Using a screwdriver, I found the latch had no tension on it and would not hold the the door striker. I put my mother in the front seat and had my son hold the door closed for the 15 mile trip home. I called 3 Ford dealers to find the part is on back-order. The price is a whopping $273 + tax + another $100 to put it in. Had my mother not been belted in, this could have killed her. Had there been another car close, it would have made for a nasty accident. I know this is not a one off, freek failure. My wife is now driving around with the door tied shut.

38 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2016

After entering car, the driver front door would not latch. There was no prior indication of any malfunction with the door latch. Driver door required to be bungee corded in order to drive vehicle to Ford dealership. The door latch was replaced by Ford at a cost on $697. 00 to owner.

This is my second complaint that I¿m filing on your website as I have not heard anything from my first complaint. I am currently experiencing a door latch problem with my 2013 Ford Focus. Please read and review the attached document which describes the problems I've been having and what has been done so far. I tried to paste it here, but it's too long for this form.

40 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2016

A light came on while we were driving saying that my front passenger door was open. Since we were coming to a stop, it thankfully did not fly open and cause an accident, but it easily could have. I attempted to close it repeatedly and it would not latch. I was forced to hold the door closed until we could pull over. Upon closer inspection, we realized that the door latch was actually broken and would have to be taken to the dealership. Despite there being recalls on several Ford vehicles for the same exact problem, Ford is refusing to recall the Focus (they actually told me that it had never happened to the 2013 model before.

41 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2016

My 2013 Ford Focus was parked in my driveway. I got in and closed the door. I didn't notice anything wrong. I started the car and started to drive out of my driveway, but my car informed me that my driver side door was not closed. I pushed on the door (without pulling the latch) and the door opened. I tried several times to close the door, locking and unlocking the doors, but the door would not latch.

42 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2016

Driving down the road 20 mph when the front passenger door opened. Got out to close door and it will not close. Latch does not catch. Had to tie door closed to drive back home 3 miles. I found on this site that Ford fusion, Lincoln mkz and Ford fiesta have similar problems and have been recalled for repair. Happened on a Saturday and made an appointment with Ford dealer for Monday.

43 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2016

Drivers door will not latch.

44 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2016

My drivers side door came open while I was making a left hand turn while driving. It does not latch shit and I had to use a belt to keep it from opening so I could get home.

45 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2016

Driver's side door opened while driving on a city street and could not close the door as well as door ajar signal beeping. I had to hold the door closed with one arm and drive with the other, very unsafe and scary. I normally drive a highway to and from work, but I happened to be in my town when it occurred and still driving 35-45 kept opening my door and obviously any left turn, which I made 3 of, caused the door to open.

46 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2016

Rear driver's side flew open while driving. Have to tie it down to stay closed. Two days later, the rear side passenger door came open and will not close. Have to tie this door to stay closed as well. The indicator light keeps going off, stating the doors are open.

47 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2016

Door will not latch. When we try to close it, it bounces back open.

48 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

This past Monday, July 4th, I arrived home from house sitting and unloaded the back seat of my car. I closed the passenger side door, locked the car and turned the alarm on. I went out to my car 1/2 hour later to run an errand and I backed out of my parking space, put the car in drive and started to drive. A message came across my dashboard that said "passenger side door is ajar". I stopped the car and got out to look at the door and close it and it wouldn't close. I tried many times to close the door and it would just open back up again. The door isn't latching and closing all the way. I tried locking and unlocking the doors many times and it still will not close completely and latch and lock. I researched online for any information and found that some Ford Focus' from 2013 have a recall and took it to the dealership hoping to get it fixed. They told me that my car is not part of the recall and it will cost me almost $600 to fix it. The door is currently being held closed with the passenger side seatbelt, but will still open a few inches while turning corners because the seatbelt is not completely secure. I think this problem should be part of the recall and be corrected and fixed by Ford.

49 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2016

Drivers side rear door suddenly opened while driving and now will not latch. Grand daughters car set flew out of car - luckily she was not in it. Apparently the is a common problem and so far no recall Ford has other models which use teh same part number that have a recall if those exact parts are covered why not these?.

50 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2016

Front drivers door will not close. It seems there is a problem with the door latch. It does not latch close. The door will open freely.

51 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2016

Passenger rear door unlatched during driving in a commercial parking lot. Would not latch back until repaired by dealership.

52 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

I drove the car as usual to work and everything was fine. I had a chek up appointment to go to and I was getting ready to leave work. When I was leaving I noticed my driver side door would not close. I thought something was obstructing it but there was nothing that prevented the door to fully close properly. Already in a rush I just duct taped my door close and left, the whole time driving my interior system kept notifying me that the door was open. After my appointment I drove straight home and have not used my car. The driver side still will not close or lock which means I cant leave anything in the vehicle or use it.

53 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2016

Drivers door latch just stopped working. The door will not stay closed and Ford said they do not have a recall at this time. It is an estimated $700 for the repairs which I feel is outrageous since the car is only 3 years old. Obviously there are multiple owners with the same issue.

54 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2016

Right drivers side door latch doesn't stay latched anymore. This is similar to the numerous complaints associated with this type of vehicle. This is clearly unasafe and needs to be recalled as this is not a normal wear and tear part.

55 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2016

I have had two door latches completely fail on my 2013 Ford Focus. The first was the back left door about 6 months ago. This morning my driver door flung open as I was turning right out of a gas station almost hitting the car next to me. This is a huge concern particularly seeing that this is common issue on the 2012-2013 Ford Focus and other Ford models. Ford needs stand up and make things right. I will not buy another Ford at this point.

56 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2016

Drivers side door fails to latch.

57 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

The driver side rear door latch stopped working. The door will no longer remain closed. I got into the vehicle and started it up and noticed the warning light about the door being ajar. I tried to close it but it would not latch and the warning would not turn off. I had to tie the door shut so I could drive the vehicle home.

58 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2016

Driver's side front door come open driving down the street by itself!!!.

59 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2016

The trunk doesn't remain closed. This has been occurring for almost a year. While the vehicle is in motion, the trunk will randomly open. It doesn't matter what type of road I'm traveling on, I. E. Residential streets, major streets, the freeways. I have removed all items from the trunk and the problems continues to persist. The car dealer has not deemed the trunk latch as defective as they find nothing wrong with it. This is a serious safety hazard as there is no warning when the trunk will pop open.

60 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2016

Trunk opens randomly while driving. No buttons are pushed, opens on its own while moving, even at speeds of 65mph. This is a recurring issue that has been going on for 2 months, and has been reported to the auto dealer (bob hurley Ford in tulsa, oklahoma. Currently has 86,000 miles on vehicle, purchased new. Will put the last date it has happened, because this is not a one time issue.

61 Body problem

Door latch faulty and flies open when driving.

Failure Date: 11/17/2015

On two separate occasions, the driver side rear door and passenger side rear door of my 2013 Ford Focus have swung open whilst driving due to a faulty door latch. It occurs after I have closed the door fully with no hazard lights on the dash to warn of any problems, such as the door ajar message. Due to the forces of turning the vehicle and or simply driving the door flies open without warning. This could potentially harm the passengers in my vehicle. Not to mention other vehicles or pedestrians my door could hit. This is the second time this has happened, each time it leaves my vehicle immobile due to the door chronically refusing to latch. This is a two year old vehicle. It is frankly unacceptable that this absurd a problem should persist to endanger myself, my family and others. I am severely disappointed with Fords quality, not to mention utter lack of concern for its customers safety.

64 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2015

Last night I hit a deer going 70 miles per hr. On the highway. My leg airbags deployed but my steering wheel did not only the clips came out. Due to knee airbags I have huge bruises on both legs. I feel that the steering wheel has a defective airbag since it did not deploy. If I had hit a tree instead of a deer its possible I would not be here to file this it did not protect me at all.

65 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2015

The drivers door came unlatched and opened while vehicle was turning. 2013 Ford Focus was checked out by Ford dealer and said there has been recalls on other Ford latch problems but none on this vehicle , although it has a similar latch as the fiesta and fusion, luckily my son had his seat belt on or he would have been thrown out of the vehicle . This is a major safety issue that needs to be fixed . The door can just unlatch at any time due to a faulty spring mechanism.

66 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

I was making a right hand turn and the drivers side door on my 2 year old Ford Focus flew open. It almost hit an oncoming car causing an accident. Now the dow will not close at all.

67 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2015

When closing front passenger door closes, door latch will not keep door securely closed. Door will open on the slightest push and will open when turning vehicle. If passenger is not wearing seat belt or if seat belt is not fully pensioned, a passenger may fall from moving vehicle. Engaging door lock will not secure door. With lock engaged door will still open without release door latch. Door latch will not engage.

68 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2015

During normal operation of the drivers side door, all of a sudden the door will no longer stay shut. The latch to hold the door close would no longer latch in place, so you could pull the door open without any force. We had to tie the door closed in order to get the vehicle into the dealership for service.

69 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Takata recall.

70 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2014

I was going to pick up my wife from work as usual. I am a very safe driver especially around corners. I was not driving more that15 mph when the car accelerated by itself. To avoid hitting a parked car I had to turn the steering wheel to the right. I went up on the driveway area. I hit a concrete wall portion or a driveway. Totaled the entire front right. Axle is broken. Air bag never deployed. Several months back they had to put in a brand new transmission. The car is just now 1 year old. It could not go up hills, park up hills. Transmission would turn off. Now it accelerated on it's own. My wife told me from the beginning this car is a lemon. I liked it so did not want to believe it! now I have to. I am still stiff all over. I have reported this to Ford auto body and my dealer. I hope they will be honest about all this. I do not feel I should be marked badly by my insurance or have my premium go up when this is not my fault. I hope Ford will at least help me out with a new replacement car for this lemon they sold me! now they will put through a claim on my insurance to repair the damage done to the wall. I hope my insurance premium will not go up. I should not have to held responsible for this when Ford has known about this problem for years and has many complaints. This I was not even aware of!.
