Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that after switching the shifter to the reverse position the vehicle erroneously accelerated forward crashing into a brick building. During the incident the vehicle was destroyed. No injuries were reported and a police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was towed to an undisclosed location. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000. Jft.
Transmission: the vehicle has been stuttering and then unexpectedly jumping forward when pressing the accelerator since about 1,500 miles. It's been getting continuously worse since. The first incident that truly endangered my safety was when I was pulling out from a 3-way stop, it almost stalled in front of incoming traffic, then suddenly propelled forward into a gas station curb & blew out my tire. The second incident, which is why I'm filing this report, was with my 2 daughters in the car, leaving a stop light at a highway intersection. It was raining, and I was trying to get up to the 55mph speed limit but the car kept chugging and stuttering. Other vehicles were going around me as my speed slowly climbed, & at almost 50 mph the car suddenly accelerated and, despite tapping my brakes, continued to do so until it hit 65 mph. I was surrounded by other vehicles, and pressed the brake harder to avoid hitting the line of cars in front of me, to the left of me, or having to swerve into the ditch on my right at this high rate of speed, because tapping the brakes cautiously was having effect on the cars acceleration. When it stopped quickly accelerating, it continued to stutter, but seemed to level off at my chosen speed. Since then, its continued to stutter and chug and jump forward almost every time I accelerate, whether from a complete stop or to go faster than my current speed. It's terrifying.
I purchased this vehicle from Ford of kirkland in washington state in 2016, and noticed driving issues the day I drove it off the lot. This vehicle has a dps6 transmission and it constantly jerks, shudders and slips out of gear while driving at any speed. It often fails to accelerate or accelerates suddenly and out of control, especially when going uphill. It also frequently overheats, especially when idling, despite having work done on it several times that was supposed to fix this problem. I was told this was an automatic transmission when the vehicle was sold to me, and the dps6 is not an automatic transmission at all. I also frequently have issues with the electrical and radio system. The clock changes randomly and the audio switches unexpectedly to radio stations from blue tooth while driving and then fails to switch back to any blue tooth device, sometimes for several days until it randomly begins working again. This is especially problematic when I am relying on audio directions from navigation apps that are paired from my cell phone while driving. I was also told by Ford of kirkland service center that there is "nothing wrong" with my transmission or my vehicle and that I'm just not driving it "correctly," which makes absolutely no sense. This vehicle and its faulty transmission are unsafe to drive. I do not let anyone else drive this vehicle because I fear for their safety and I only drive it myself in times where it is absolutely necessary, which I can prove by the very small amount of miles I have put on it since purchase. I experience the above stated problems every single time I drive it this vehicle, which is a clearly a lemon by definition. Ford broke the law by selling me this dangerous vehicle with a transmission that they knew was unsafe and by falsely advertising this transmission as an automatic.
Letter from congressman neugebauer on behalf of constituents of the 19th district of texas re Ford safety issues. The consumer owns a 2014 Ford Focus se with the optional dps6 power shift transmission. The transmission exhibited a severe, erratic movement, along with shuddering/jerking, with the most severe being while the vehicle was in reverse, park or drive on four different occasions. On two of those occasions, it happened when the consumer was accelerating from a complete stop and the vehicle lurched backwards; once hitting a pedestrian and leaving scratches on the back of the vehicle with a dented license plate. On several occasions, the vehicle accelerated on its own and applying the brake did not slow the vehicle down. Last year, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and the consumer had to hit a curb, in order to avoid an accident with another vehicle. The consumer stated the vehicle had numerous transmission and engine leaks where seals had to be replaced. Five days after the vehicle was inspected, the vehicle went into park while in the midst of driving 65 mph/ the vehicle shook, and revved and the rp's were extremely high, then the vehicle started to slow down without any assistance from the consumer. The vehicle came to a complete stop, an error message appeared that said transmission not in park.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning when the brakes were depressed causing an accident. The contact drove into a ditch destroying the vehicle. There were no injuries sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 50,000. Ad.
After driving into houston last year, came to a stop light on the tollway. The light turned green, I pressed the accelerator and the engined revved high followed by a metal "clapping/clanking" noise when vehicle changed gears. I took my foot off of the accelerator, but car still accelerated on its own. I ended up running into a curb to keep from hitting other vehicles. The next day, going up a parking garage at 2-5mph, transmission exhibited erratic movement and had a sudden acceleration in reverse (gearshift was in the "drive" slot). A girl was passing behind me and was struck as I was reacting to the sudden change in direction trying to brake. She put her hands out to push herself away and her ring scratched my back bumper and her hand dented in my back license plate. Her hand was turning red and bruised, but she refused to leave her info with me (she looked to be about 15). Service dealers in houston could not "replicate" problem and said this is "normal. " after this incident, my highway mpg's have dropped from 35-42mpg to no more than 27mpg. City went from 26-30 to no more than 24mpg. Drove to austin in April, strong hesitation and "stuttering" from a complete or near stop. At highway speeds, it feels jumpy. Vehicle will accelerate on its own between 5-20mph, and 45-55mph. I drive on a college campus where speed is 20mph and I will have to put car into neutral to keep it from accelerating. I took this vehicle to the dealership at around 100 miles - they gave me a printout from Ford showing why this behavior is "normal" and will get better with more mileage. At around 6000 miles at the dealership in houston after injuring someone, they said it was "normal" for this vehicle to exhibit "undesirable conditions" and I just need to further break in the transmission. Now the problem is even worse, and my local dealership says it will take at least 2 weeks in the shop.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving approximately 10 mph and engaging the brakes, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning. The failure occurred four times. The dealer was unable to locate the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 15.
