1 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2020

Wiring harness that controls the transmission control module had 6 wires rub on the throttle body causing them to break or tarnish which caused the vehicle to stop in the middle of the road while driving on a city street on 2 occasions. Dealership that did repairs stayed this is a common problem. They had 3 other vehicles in for service with same problem.

Failure Date: 01/20/2020

Here is another picture. This is the electrical connection to the washer fluid pump. Fluid leaks out of the electrical connections to the pump and gets pushed through the wiring loom and the fluid leaks onto the body control module causing corrosion and failure of the bcm.

3 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2019

The factory radio shorts out and fries parts of the main wiring harness. This causes the car to make loud popping noises that sound like gun shots. Scaring the driver. It also shut the car off while I was driving.

Takata recall electrical wiring is going in and out, radio is not saving stations that I save, display goes in and out and has static. Warning sign apperars every so often.

5 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2019

This appears to be the same issue as the 14s17-s1 recall affecting the 2013-2014 Ford Focus st and escape models. Lost all power while driving and engine began stuttering while I was traveling on the highway at 65 miles per hour. I was barely able to reach to shoulder before the vehicle was immobilized. I was charged 830 dollars by my local dealership (inver grove Ford Lincoln in inver grove heights mn) to locate and repair chaffed and damaged wiring in the engine harness in the identical location to the st and escape models.

6 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2019

Upon "check engine" light illumination, I took car to garage to have codes read. They showed me what they believed to be the issue and said I should check with Ford for recalls or compensation to have what is clearly a manufacturing defect fixed. I googled my situation and was stunned to see how common a problem it is. . Read more...

7 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2019

As I was driving, coming off I-70w ramp onto a main city street, my cars "engine fault, service now" indicator came on the screen. My car was still on but would not accelerate. I managed to get to the side of the ramp through the traffic. I attempted to restart my vehicle but was unable. After letting it rest for a few minutes I turned the key again while giving the engine gas. It sputtered on and I was able to make it onto the street. However, it would not accelerate at usual. Reved at 400, I was still only getting up to 20 mph after about 500 ft. It died again once I got under the underpaid, attempting to make it the remaining three minutes to work. After a few more attempts I was able to get it started again and creeped the rest of the way to work with my hazards on. While working I called my dealership for a tow, since my husband carries an extended warranty and roadside assistance. After having it towed they informed us that it was the wiring harness an that it would not be covered under our warranty. They also then told us that the tow would not be covered either since we did not use the appropriate company for roadside. My husband purchased this vehicle six weeks ago and we are now facing a $1400 repair and a $300 diagnostic and tow. Aftevsome research my husband found that 2014 Ford Focus st had a recall for the exact issue. I feel that the fault may be for more that just the sports addition.

8 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2018

The customer came in with a no start concern that required the vehicle be jumped each morning. We performed a warranty battery test and determined the battery was not at fault. At that point we proceeded with diagnosis starting with testing the draw on the system. After letting the vehicle sit and disconnecting anything that may draw on the battery we still found a 3 amp draw pulling from the battery. Upon inspection we found the air bag deactivation light lit on the dash with the key off. Checked the wiring diagram found the airbag light is powered out of the bcm. Unplugged connector c2280g draw goes away. Checked all connectors at bcm, found c2280d with washer fluid in the connector and connector burnt from high resistance. Checked connector c137 at the washer pump found the washer pump leaking into connector c137 and pumping all the way to the bcm along circuits crw23 and crw24. Connector c2280d is not serviced as a pigtail, so a complete harness will be needed to complete the repair. A bcm and washer pump will be needed to resolve this concern in its entirety.

Failure Date: 03/28/2018

While driving at 35 mph, the engine stalled without warning & would not restart. Dash displayed "engine fault, service soon. " had vehicle towed to local dealership. Dealer checked the codes and found multiple engine controller faults. Said it was a bad wiring harness. This is a se model with 2. 0 l engine, but Ford has a recall on the st model with 2. 0l engine for the same failure mode and cause (wiring harness). Ford did "participate" in the repair ($250 out of $1500) wiring harness was retained by owner for review and analysis. .

Rodents are eating wires in my motor. I saw on Ford website that they are using soybased wire insulation. There is a class action that has been filed by consumer against Honda. . Who is using same soybased products in their manufacturing car process and has even invented a duct tape coated with a product that should detour rodents from chewing these wires if it is wrapped around the wiring inside the motor. They refuse to cover. . (Ford). . And (Honda) these repairs under our manufactures warranty for defective material. . Which is not fair to us the consumer. It will me. . . Ford said. . . . Over two thousand dollars to repair. This soybased products. . Attract the rodents. . And either should be stopped in the manufacturing of cars. . Or manufacture to be required to. . Replace. . Free of charge. If they repair. . At my expense. . Rodents will only continue to be lured to my cars. . Wiring. . To chew it up again. This could result in fires. . Crashes. . Is very dangerous situation. . Not to mention. . Costly to us the consumer. Honda would not of invented that duct tape. . But they did because they knew darn well that it is attracting rodents. We all want eco friendly products. . But not when it puts consumers. . At grave risk. I have lived at my home for over 25 years. . Never. . Has this happened to me. This is second occurance. First time cost me under three hundred. I do not want this to cost me my or my child's life. . The next time.

14 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2014

2014 Ford Focus st with manual transmission when decelerating to a stop sign or stop light (approx 20-10 mph), and engaging the clutch to coast with the car in neutral, the car will almost stall (drops to about ~500 rpm) and then the engine "catches itself" and will rev to 1000-1200 rpm before settling back to a normal 700-800 rpm idle. This happens at random, but "ac/on" also increases likelihood of occurrences. This happens every trip. I stopped counting after 12 events in the first seven days. The car also "hunts" for it's idle speed (with a warmed engine) and varies from 700-1000 rpm, apparently at random. There is already a Ford TSB for this, TSB# 13-09-07, but it can only be accomplished if an engine completely shuts down and throws a check engine light/code. Due to the fact that this could completely shut off an engine while stopping near other motorists, like the recent gm ignition issue, I believe Ford should recall all these vehicles. It is a 45 minute repair and approx $8 dollars in parts to repair two "crimped wire connections" in the main wiring harness, (s132 & s133). They need to be soldered, not crimped (6 bare copper wires overlaid together and crimped). I have been to two Ford dealerships but they are under strict Ford guidelines not to accomplish the TSB unless there is a check engine light/code. I even offered to pay for the repair and was turned away both times. I believe it is better to accomplish this TSB and remove the concern than to wait for an owner safety issue leading to engine shut down and an accident. There have been numerous complaints about this issue on forums at Focus st. . Read more...

15 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

Since buying the car new I have had multiple issues with the transmission jerking, slipping, loss of take off power and feelings of unsafe driving situations. My vehicle one time felt like someone threw on an emergency brake and nose dived on the highway when it lost power during acceleration off entrance ramp. Most of the time the surging, bucking, slow to respond happens when the vehicle is warmed up and have to move after a stop light or sign. Also had to bring it in to dealer to have wiring fixed due to vibrations of vehicle. Last few trips to the dealer I had to pay out of pocket and never got any solid answers to the problem or any fixes, just told it is within limits. With no fixes in the plans I quit taking it in to the dealership due to no issues being covered under warranty.
