The contact owns a 2018 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the infotainment system had failed to turn on intermittently. Additionally, the contact stated that the rearview camera was intermittently inoperable while reversing. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring increasingly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the accessory protocol interface module (apim) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 121,000.

2 Back Over Prevention problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the screen display would intermittently malfunction and display a black screen. During the failure, the backup camera became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the access protocol interface module (apim) was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 51,000.
