Steering Problems of Ford Focus Electric

I was driving to work just gotten off the freeway in the city of cerritos and all of a sudden a warning came on and said steering loss stop safely and then it locked up and pulled to the right. I almost hit the car next to me but was lucky. I was able to get it to the side of the road using all my strength but it was terrifying and someone could have really been injured or worse. I have only had it 2 and 1/2 years.

Twice since we have owned this car the steering wheel locks up after the engine is started. My wife says there is a message on the dash display about the steering. Both times she showed me the steering being locked up in the driveway of our home. I was able to correct the problem by turning off the ignition switch and restarting. She told me this morning it has happened to her while driving once on a highway at 60 mph . She was able to strong arm the steering wheel to the shoulder. I am extremely concerned about this problem. I still owe a lot of money on this car and I can't even give it away with this kind of problem.

When I first bought the car I had issues with the steering wheel they took care of the problems so recently my steering wheel acting up again making noises and just yesterday it say steering loss safely stop so I check online there been recalls on steering issues luckily it happen when I park or I would of been in a serious crash.

While in the driveway and stationary, I turned on the car and the "power steering assist" warning light came on. The power steering was not operable and the steering went into manual making it almost impossible to turn the wheel. After the mechanic evaluated this, it was determined the sensor needs to be replaced. The part alone is $1100 and that does not include labor. Rather costly. There are many, many complaints found about this specific issue with a simple google search. Other Ford cars have received a recall on this part. It seems particularly odd and extremely irresponsible on Ford's behalf to not concede to the defect on this particular year/make/model and issue a recall for replacement at no cost to the consumer.

Vehicle has experienced several instances where a �stop safely now� error appears on dashboard. When stationary, this prevents vehicle from starting. When in motion, power steering is disabled and braking is more difficult. Separately, the vehicle frequently indicates an abs warning light while driving at approximately 45 mph in city driving. Further error messages occur regarding loss of traction control, usually occurring at around 5 mph in neighborhood.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus Electric. While the gear shifter was placed in reverse, the steering wheel inadvertently locked and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. I also saw that sometimes you can go back to the vehicle and start it up again and the steering problem may go away. This is very alarming. What if I am driving and the steering goes out? this, of course, can lead to injury or death to the driver or to others involved in a crash.
