Vehicle suddenly and without warning will not engage any gears. Shifts gear with no problem, but it will not move when shifted into drive, reverse, etc. We are unable to use any momentum to move off the road safely. Upon research it may be related to the torque converter recall from 2009. Vehicle has 154,700 milage. We were at a stoplight when motive power failed, moving at about 10 mph.
My transmition turn my car off in the highest my engine light keeps going on.
On November I was going shopping with my two kids, out of the sudden my van stopped in the intersection of washington and miles, I didn't know what was going on, I pushed it to the side off the road. It didn't turn on so I called the tow truck. We're being trying to fixed it but now it just doesn't shift. It is unknown as to what caused the problem.
Takata recall - 2005 Ford Freestar van 135,000 miles. . . . . Transmission failure 3 (March 2012) (July 2007) times in 11 years. Recall issued for same exact van built at other plant but does not cover my van. I don't understand this as Ford says that they use the same parts at all locations. Was driving vehicle and lost all power (breaks, steering ect. ). Have almost wrecked multiple times due to this issue. We have contacted Ford and have only been told how sorry they are that we are having problems. Dealership service manager accused us of said vehicle in area with lost of water.
I am not sure where the problem lies but we suspect it may be electrical. We have had the fuel pump, fuel filter replaced, and the pcm cleaned and dried out but the van is still making a squealing noise and dies without notice, most often in the middle of a turn or at a stop light or sign. The squealing starts when you turn the van on, then will stop and start again randomly. Usually soon after it will just die. So far it has always restarted but it seems to be getting worse. We are afraid to drive it very far for fear it will die in traffic or in the middle of an intersection with oncoming traffic.
I was driving on an inclined off ramp towards my destination. My car once it got to the top of the incline began to slow down and the rpms were excelerating and all of a sudden my car came to a stop I was then spooked so I turned my car off and then turned it back on and it was making a loud revving sound and wouldnt go into any gears. . So now my car is just stuck and I topped off all of my fluids. . I really dont know what to do. . Im a mother of two and also a fulltime employee. . And I really cant be with out a vehicle!! help!!.
I was mid turn when the gas pedal stopped working with a loud grinding sound. It would not shift back into gear and the loud grinding sound still persists.
Transmission problems again. There was a torque converter replace on it in 2011 and then a transmission and converter again in 2012. All under a previous owner . I bought it from that owner and now its doing the same stuff again. My local Ford dealership said there is nothing that they can do. If it still has the same problem , why wont the fix it again because it was not fixed right like it should be. They just put a bad converter in it twice and said forget it. Not fair to us that they wont fix it. This will be the third time.

This is about a 2005 Ford Freestar. When accelerating, specially in rainy conditions, the vehicle's engine makes a screechy noise and loses power. The screechy noise sometimes stops and the vehicle is able to continue moving. Usually when it's wet/rainy the engine loses power and vibrates. It's very dangerous and stressful because it usually happens when attempting to pass slower vehicles on the left lanes and when the vehicle loses power we attempt to move to the right lane's shoulder. Lucky that this happened when traffic was light at 6am. After restarting the engine I drove on side roads to reach my destination. This has happened at least twenty times since 2013.
I bought my 2005 Ford Freestar in 2005. Almost immediately after buying it we had instances of the power locks not working. The driver door will unlock but the rest will not. We have even had to climb in through the driver door to unlock the back doors by hand then try to get groceries out of the way back through the middle doors. This is also a huge safety concern for me. If I were to get into an accident and be incapacitated and my kids were in the car, they wouldn't be able to open those doors because it keeps them locked even if you push the buttons to open them automatically. I am sick of dealing with this issue. There are so many forums on line where other people have the same problem. This needs to be fixed!.
The car would start then stall. I would be driving and it would just slow down like no gas getting into engine and stall out . I took it to Ford dealer (crest Ford centerline michigan) they ran it on a scope. Told me I needed turbine shaft speed sensor. They replaced it and called to say my vehicle was fine and ready to go. I picked up car on Monday evening and on Wednesday car had to be towed back to the dealer. Car would start but would not drive. Ford could not find problem and finally I called a friend to ask for a solution. Because of all the issues with the pcm and his expertise I called my Ford advisor han schwallbach and told him to check the pcm for water damage. He called me back shortly and said they found the water damage. This is a van made very wrong with a design so that your windshield lets water flow onto the cowl and then damages the brain for the car. I now have to pay 1000. 00 to fix a mistake Ford motor created. This is a problem for everyone who owns this vehicle. I hope Ford fixes it on a recall before someone dies. I feel as a consumer I should not have had to go figure out whats wrong with my car on my own. Ford mechanics should know and be experienced. This will be my last Ford with the way they handle their cars.
After years of problems, previous postings on this site, and 3 pcms later. . . The story continues: our van has been in the shop 5 times within ~ 4-5 weeks, and the dealership keeps working to seal the pcm unit. The unit was sealed by Ford with standard module seals, green expandable foam, etc. , but water still got into the computer housing. During research on the Freestar's computer problems, I read about the clip slots (where the pcm fits into the van) providing a means of water intrusion also, so they took it out again and sealed those. I got the van out of the shop, and the next day the check engine light came on. We took it by an auto parts place for a scan, and it showed a pcm problem. (the guy at the auto parts store said he had a 2005 Freestar, and his pcm had shorted out also from water damage. ) at least, this time a code was given! generally, codes are not generated since the malfunctioning computer is the code generator. I don't know if another pcm has shorted out in our van, or if water has once again seeped into the unit. The wet winter in georgia has practically rendered my van useless for the past couple of months. The van is truly a "fair weather" vehicle. To find more information on this issue, google "2005 Ford Freestar pcm water intrusion" or visit any of the auto safety sites on-line such as NHTSA or arfc. Org. I am currently seeking legal counsel regarding this issue, since Ford has failed to take responsibility for the problems. Unfortunately, pcm issues have often remained undetected due to the lack of code indications. (it took almost 2 years for one of many mechanics to diagnose our Freestar's issues, and that was a result of on-line research. ) pcm water intrusion problems usually are manifested as transmission or engine issues such as no reverse, erratic gear changes, rpm "revs", or other unexplained occurrences.
I opened the power liftgate with key fob and as I was unloading groceries the door started coming down on me and would not stop, hitting me hard in the head as I try to get out from under it.
Difficult to diagnose! symptoms of a wet pcm module manifests itself in many forms. We've experienced most of them by this point in our ~3 year battle with our Freestar. Randomly, our van would not: start, go into reverse, give warning lights, drive forward without stalling, allow certain systems to function properly. In other situations, it would: run roughly, break down, rev up unexpectedly, create transmission issues, etc. Seals wear down and allows water to enter into the computer, due to its location under the windshield. One of the greatest problems of all is the lack of diagnostics for this issue. We've had our vehicle towed in, only to find diagnostic codes did not show up when the van was checked out. Surprisingly, the car would usually start up and drive without a problem after being towed into the mechanic. After several towing experiences, we simply decided to leave our car stranded for a day or two if possible and return later to drive it away without a problem. We've replaced pumps, coils, transmission components, plugs, wires. . In an effort to get the van to work properly. Finally, one mechanic did on-line research and found the pcm problem with the 2005 Freestar. After finding water in the computer housing, he suggested that we buy a rebuilt one (Ford does not supply pcm's for this van anymore) to see if that would solve the problems. However, the Ford dealership had to install the computer so that the programming could be completed. Otherwise, the original keys would not work. In summary, the pcm did solve the problems, until the next weather event. Then, the problems started all over again. We have now had the computer replaced, dried, and/or sealed several times, but water keeps getting inside. The local Ford dealership and other mechanics have been working diligently in an effort to seal the pcm. Recall and class action needed!.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. While backing out of a driveway and attempting to pull forward, the cable that holds the spare tire under the vehicle snapped and the tire came off. The contact spoke with the mechanic and was informed to call NHTSA. The purchase date and speed were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 61,000.
