3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2020

My 2006 Ford free star, lost it gears in the middle of driving on a busy hwy. I was reversing out of a drive way on to the hwy and went to go into d and it would not move it would only go into first gear. I think this a major safety issue and Ford should be held accountable for it poor design. Me and my children could of been hurt or even worse killed. The hwy is 65 mph an I'm stuck across the two lanes. Because the van wont shift. I looked online and this happens a lot with this make and model. And it not the first time I have lost power well driving on the hwy in this van due to poor design.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2015

While driving down the highway with my five children in the car the carson we lost power and I had to say try my best to safely coast to the side of the road and was not able to get completely out of the way before the car stopped and wouldn't move. We have to get out of the car walk through a field a9 year old 10 year old 6 year old two year old and an 8 month old. There are recalls on all other urs except this one even though they have the same engine and failing parts. Torc converter!!! my kids were afraid and didnt know what would happen ro us. It will cost us money we don't have to fix this car, with the faulty part. We should be included in the recall.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2014

Accelerated away from a stop sign within a walmart parking lot and after about fifteen feet the vehicle began to slow down while depressing the accelerator. Attempted to accelerate and the rpm's went up with no propulsion. Allowed vehicle to stop then pushed in a parking space. There was never any indication that the transmission would fail via warning light nor was there a noise/bang/clunk etc associated. Vehicle just stopped accelerating. Had vehicle towed to shop and they said there were no codes indicating the failure and a transmission rebuild would be in order for $2000.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2014

We were in the middle lane of i5 north heading home from a family vacation when we suddenly lost power. No warning sounds, lights or anything . One minute we were driving along ,the next I was hanging out the passenger window( my husband was driving) waving off oncoming traffic to let us coast to the side. We have endured $ 20000 in repairs ( and counting) ,750. 00 in hotel bills ( and counting because we are still here!) as for Ford saying ,it's not a safety issue' ,we could easily have been killed. My 2 kids were in the car,the hair on my arm stood up when I thought about what could have happened thanks to Fords crappy workmanship. There is no way they don't know this problem exists. I will never buy Ford again.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Some times while backing up the car would lurch. While driving the car would suddenly excelerate while cruise control was engaged oreven just by it self. Sometimes the car was having problems excelerating from a stop.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2013

After stopping at a stop sign, I accelerated to proceed, and as my vehicle started to go it just as quickly died. With traffic behind me and coming at me from the left and right, I was lucky enough that those cars were able to stop in time and not broadside me or rear end me, and I was able to coast to the side of the road. Long story short, it was the torque convertor! I see that there was a recall on the 04 and 05 models but not the 2006. Having researched thoroughly online for this problem, clearly, mine is not an isolated incident, as there are numerous other 2006 Ford Freestar owners who have experienced the same torque convertor failure between 120k and 150k miles, complaints stated in many Ford forums and other internet venues. Of the 75+ I read, about 50% had registered a complaint about the torque convertor failure in the 06 Freestars with NHTSA. Clearly, Ford needs to address this problem in the 2006 as well. Thank you for taking the time to read my info and ¿complaint and for your prompt response.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2013

I was driving my 2006 Ford Freestar in my neighbor hood with my kids with me. All of a sudden the car shook and I lost all pwer in my vehicle. The engine just revved like I was in neutral. I pulled over in a parking liot. None of the gears on van were working. I was very fortunate that I was not on highway and not traveling at a high speed. There is a problem with the torque converter and Ford knows it. They did a recall on the 2004-2005 torque converter but not the 2006. I have spoken to several repair facilities including a Ford dealership and they advised me that they all use the same transmission. I can not believe that Ford would consider the torque converter issue a safety recall but not one for the 2006 Freestar. I called Ford and they said that would notify me if ther is a future recall but basically I am on my own. They are putting people in jeopardy of their safety and they are aware of the issue.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2013

When I was driving a hill down, suddenly the engine and all electronic equipment stopped, warning lamp engine and battery flashes, steering wheel and brakes did not work correctly. I need about 1 mile to stop the car. After that the car could not be reactivated/started again. - cause for incident (Ford service): the motor control unit was filled with water after a rain.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2013

My husband and 5 passengers were traveling home at night from my son's hockey game ( 2 hours away) when the car felt like it was sent into neutral. Could not go forward or reverse. Thankfully they were able to coast safely to a stop. They were stranded and had to flag down help. The torque converter was totally stripped out which resulted in a repair bill of $902. 00. ( not to mention the cost of towing) I found out that the 2004 and 2005 Freestar torque converters were on recall. Why were the 2006 models not included in this? I was told they have the same transmission and such. I will be holding onto my receipt in hopes that we can be reimbursed for this major inconvenience and safety issue. This could have been a bad situation had they been on a freeway. I am hoping that Ford will recognize that the 2006 models should be included on this recall. If not. . . . The next breakdown, accident, injury or death could be on your shoulders. Sorry for the rant but I am frustrated!.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

I was traveling down the highway when my transmission completely quit working and my rpm's shot up to 5000. I coasted to the side of the road and the transmission would not engage. I had it towed to a local shop where I was referred to cottman transmission to get it evaluated. Cottman transmission said the transmission was full of water and completely burned up. They said that these vans have a problem with water leaking through the wiper vents onto the top of the pcm and water entering into the transmission. Upon more investigation I have found out that Ford has even acknowledged the problem and still has not issued a recall. They have issued a recall on some of the 04 and 05's for torque converter issues that sound like the same problem with the 06's. Something has to be done about this because I was traveling on a busy highway with my wife and kids and had the transmission locked up I could have caused a serious, possibly even fatal, wreck because of Ford's failure to correct a problem that they know exists! thankyou.

I own a 2006 Ford Freestar and as of Jan 9 2012 they have recalled 04-05 for the transmission blowing up! torque converter ,pump and output shaft to give you the pats! my family was in the van on the 400 hwy driving on Jan 22 2012 with two children and my van shouts down no control, driving 105-110 in the middle lane. . We did get to the side of the road and no one was hurt thank god, to realize our transmission blow, with only 105,000km on the van not knowing there was a problem out from Ford canada all ready for the 04-05 ,we have called Ford canada and told them what happened and they informed us that we have no warranty and its not in the recalls, so the van was fixed with a billof 2975. 00at aamco transmission on Jan 25th 2012 with no help from Ford, I cant believe this has happened they were aware of this problem and are not concerned about lives, someone or all of us and anyone around us could have lost there lives due to this problem with the transmissions failing and there know about it, and don't feel there is enough repaired with the 06 are you kidding me not enough reports this is a joke, there are aware of this and when someone loses there life there recall them , give your head a shake, fix the problem before this even happens, I don't know where to begin and where or who to talk to but I am email everyone I can so that no one loses there life over this!!!I need help from all parties out there please I am heard this happened to me and my family and it could have turn out very bad!!!!!.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Second Ford remanufactured transmission warranty not being honored with failure @ 93,000. Air conditioner, right side passenger door window, moter mounts.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2009

While driving on the interstate my Ford free star caught fire under the hood. I was unable to open the hood and put the fire out. The van totally burned.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2006

I bought the vehicle in Jan. 06, starter went 11 months later. Van has never started up correctly. It doesn't run smoothly. Runs rough when it rains. Found info online regarding water leaking into the pcm which can create misfires, shift late, engine can run rough. I have taken it back to echelon Ford several times. They still won't admit to it being a problem. Couldn't find a code. However, now that I am out of warranty, they were able to find a code. Ford are not backing up there product! there hundreds of complaints about these vehicles and nothing is being done! I have 1 year left to pay, and can't afford to make repairs that Ford should be fixing since it started when I had the original warranty. . . Why will Ford not do something. . ? I have a wife who drives it with 4 kids. What are they waiting for, an accident. . . ? what has to happen to get them to fix this problem on there vehicles. Ford is saying it's miss firing in cylinder 3. Probably because of all the water that has effected the pcm, and the ignition coil pack & ignition wires needs to be replaced, why would need to be replaced in a 5 year old vehicle. . . Is that getting wet too. . . ? I am extremely tired of dealing with this van. It's not fair to have a company not stand behind there product. I have had it!.
