I currently own a 2004 Ford Freestar minivan. I have been experiencing start problems for a couple of weeks now. I drove the car about 10 miles to get gas. I turned the engine off to fuel up. I attempted to start the vehicle and it would not start. I called my husband to try to jump start the vehicle and it worked. Drove the car 1/4 mile down the road to autozone to have the battery tested. The battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle seemed to be repaired after the battery was replaced. About 5 days after the battery was replaced the vehicle would not start after several attempts. I called aaa to have it towed to the Ford dealership for repairs. The aaa mechanic tried to start it before just towing it. He moved the shifter to neutral and back and started to vehicle right up. Maybe I did not have the shifter in the proper position? since then, the vehicle has not started up quite a few times. . . . At random times, over the last few days. I was stranded at the doctors office with a no start. Called aaa again for a tow again. However, right before aaa got to me. . . . The vehicle started right up. I cancelled the aaa call and drove straight to the dealership for repair. The Ford dealership can not find any problem as to why the vehicle will not start. It starts every time for them. The alternator and the starter are fine. The battery has been replaced and there are no transmission error codes being emitted. I have a hunch that this is an electrical problem. It isn't anything else. The Ford dealership explained that they took a look at the pcm but could not see any water corrosion. So they did not replace it. So now, I am faced with picking up the vehicle and not knowing when I'll be stranded again because the vehicle will not start.

I just received a safety recall notice 11s25 / NHTSA recall 12v-006
everytime I drive my van it does not seem to want to accelerate or maintain speed. I have taken it to the mechanic and I was told that I needed to have a new egr valve put on, so I did. That did not fix the problem and I was told new spark plugs and wires so I had them replace, that did not fix the problem. Then I was told that I may need a new fuel filter, so I had it replaced and once again that did not solve the problem. This is the only vehicle I have and I am a single mom to two young children. I am worried that while I am driving I will lose all power and will be hit by another vehicle. My van never wants to go over 40 mph and once it does reach that speed it will not maintain and sometimes makes an odd noise. I pulled onto the by-pass the other day and my van would not accelerate right away. . . Thank god that the truck behind me was able to pass me on the shoulder. There have been a couple other times when my van would not gain speed and I would have to pull over so that the vehicles behind me could pass. So in a nut shell the problems are as listed:
1. ) van will not accelerate or maintain speed
2. ) when I press on the gas pedal there is often a pinging / knocking sound
I just want to know what I need to do to get this problem fixed and not be out any more money. Please help!.

My husband was driving on a 4 lane hwy in pensacola, FL when my 2004 Ford Freestar suddenly stopped pulling. No forward, no backwards, neutral, nothing and the rpms went extremely high. Zero warnings, and in heavy rush hour traffic. It is only due to my husbands race car driving experience and quick reaction time that he was immediately able to get the van on the side of the hwy. My husband and our two boys thankfully were safe but they were stranded in intense florida heat. I have had a lean fuel, various electrical, coil pack and pcm issues since I got the van June 2007. The Ford dealership, and the easterns dealership I purchased the van from, could not figure out the problems. While under warranty, easterns worked on it but none of the issues were ever able to be fixed. I choose the Freestar for its safety features so I knew I had a safe way to transport my children. This is no longer the case, I do not trust Ford to take care of their defective products and I will not purchase another Ford.
The first failure was when I was driving down the road doing just over 55 mph, all of a sudden the van died an I coasted to the side of the road. After several failed attempts to restart the van it finally started and stayed running. I eventually made it home without incident. Had it checked and was told it possibly had an electrical failure but change the fuel filter in case it was an issue with fuel getting to the engine. So we did. It ran fine after that until about 3 months later. We took it to run errands with no problem and returned home. Went to run to the grocery store and the van would not go into gear. It would start ok but not move, wouldn't go into drive or reverse. Thankfully it was at home when it happened and not going down the road like the first time when I had all 3 kids with me. Had it towed to a garage where they found metal shavings in the torque converter. Had a new one put in and it ran fine for about 2 weeks. Then we found cracks in the coil packs and hd those replaced along with all spark plugs. Not sure if that is relevant to the torque problem. Spent $940. 00 to fix the torque converter and another $240. 00 to fix coil packs and spark plugs. The torque converter is a recall on the '04 and '05 and the same needs to be done with the '06's.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle began to stall. The contact drove onto the emergency lane. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic who stated that the vehicle was not pumping fuel, that there was a faulty cam position sensor and a transmission speed sensor. The mechanic replaced both sensors but that did not remedy the failure. The contact called the dealer to explain the stalling failure; however, the dealer stated the vehicle needed to have the transmission inspected. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that since there was no recall they could offer no assistance. The contact stated due to the safety issue there should be a recall. The failure mileage was 47,073.
Upon a stop or when attempting to reverse, the car lunges for no apparent reason. I view this as dangerous, as this has occurred several times, either when in a parking lot with pedestrians behind me entering store or when I am at a stop light and pedestrians are in a crosswalk. After researching this issue, I see that this is a problem that other people are having as well, concerning a "throttle body" component on the Ford freestyle from years 2005 and up. I feel that this should be seriously investigated before someone is seriously injured or killed through no fault of the car owner, but in fact, the vehicle and the maker of the vehicle.
When filling van with gasoline, gas shot back out, hitting person in face and arms.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestar. While driving, a strong odor of gasoline was expelled from the air vents. Sometimes the consumer became so dizzy, that she would have to pull over for fresh air . The vehicle has been taken to the dealer multiple times, but they could not locate the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 19000. The current mileage was 49951. Updated 04/01/10 updated 05/05/10.
