1 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

I own a 2005 Ford Freestar minivan. This August my instrument panel quit working. I took it to the dealership and was advised that my abs module failed and as a result it melted my wire harness. I just discovered that Ford previously had this problem with their windstars. I'd like this to be looked into as this is a hefty repair ($3,000. 00 +) that I cannot afford. As a result, I am driving in a vehicle with no abs and no working instrument panel - including speedometer. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2004 Ford Freestar. While driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions, the idle speed increased and the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly. Suddenly, the vehicle stalled. The engine restarted and resumed normal operation. In addition, the vehicle failed to operate intermittently when shifted into reverse. 3 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 03/02/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Ford Freestar. While driving approximately 35-40 mph, the vehicle began to hesitate and the instrumental panel lighting flashed. The vehicle shut off a few minutes later and was towed to the dealer. The dealer stated that water penetrated through the windshield wiper motor area and caused the main computerized system to fail. The instrument panel had to be replaced, the gas line had to be blown out, and the spark plugs were replaced. The insurance company investigation concluded that the failure was due to a product defect. The manufacturer acknowledged receiving the contact's written complaint; however, they would not assist with the $1,200 repair cost that the contact had to pay. The failure mileage was 58,502.
