11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 12/09/2014

Going down a small hill and was picking up speed, let off the gas pedal to slow down. Starting up the next hill and when the gas pedal was pushed I ended up going backward and there were 4 vehicles right behind me. They all were stopping and each turned in a different direction not to hit the other person in front of them. It could have been worse if I had taken the interstate. This happened at about 6 a. M. So there was not a lot of traffic like there is at 7 a. M. In the morning. But if I had not forgotten my billfold, this would happened at a very high traffic time of day when I would have been going home.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

This has happened several time over last year or so that I have owned this vehicle. When driving down highway and it starts to rain cars sputters and seems to loose power. Twice it has stalled on me going 55 miles an hour on highway and have had to try and coast to side of road in traffic with people beeping with loss of steering. Luckily both times after a few mins the vehicle started again and was able to make it home. Have changed wires and plugs, runs fines in dry weather but still stutters and tries to stall when its wet out or rains! very dangerous and wont let wife take kids out when it rains in fear they will get stuck somewhere.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 06/29/2014

We were driving in the middle of no where with my family (2 children - 9mos and 3 years old) in the back seat and out of no where the van will not go forward and will not go back. It was like it was simply thrown into neutral. We had to wait over an hour on the side of the road with my small children to get a tow truck as well as wait for someone to come get us! the van was driving just fine, no issues, no warning the transmission just failed.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. While driving approximately 30 mph, the front passenger side of the vehicle began to jerk and an unfamiliar warning indicator illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 06/07/2014

Accelerated away from a stop sign within a walmart parking lot and after about fifteen feet the vehicle began to slow down while depressing the accelerator. Attempted to accelerate and the rpm's went up with no propulsion. Allowed vehicle to stop then pushed in a parking space. There was never any indication that the transmission would fail via warning light nor was there a noise/bang/clunk etc associated. Vehicle just stopped accelerating. Had vehicle towed to shop and they said there were no codes indicating the failure and a transmission rebuild would be in order for $2000.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 03/29/2014

I was driving on the interstate when suddenly without warning the transmission was no longer engaged and it resulted in complete loss of power and I had to coast to a stop in freeway traffic and try to get to the side of the road in time. Semi trucks were whizzing past me at 75 mph. I bought this vehicle from the Ford dealership in abilene, TX about one month ago and was not told about any recalls to the torque converter. This could have easily resulted in my death. I am highly pissed. Why the hell didn't the dealership replace this before selling me this vehicle for 7k? and what will be done about dealerships letting vehicles drive off the lot like this when they knew about the recall and did nothing and said nothing.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 02/07/2014

The light for the powertrain malfunction started flashing after we had the alternator changed. Do not know if it was just a coincidence but the speedometer also stopped working.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 12/23/2013

I received recall on my Freestar in 2012, on the torque converter, it was fixed but had started to slip shortly after getting it fixed. 16 months later I found myself without any power. I took it to shop and was told it was on recall but since I had it fixed 16 months prior that it no longer was warranted. If they replaced the torque converter with a "fixed" one then I should not have had trouble so soon. Ford is wanting me to pay 1800 to fix their mess up. . I wonder what my rights are?.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

Almost every time we start the van, the odometer has all dashes through the reading and the speedometer will not work. After restarting the van sometimes several times it fixes itself. The problem has been getting progressively worse. I have been seeing a lot of information in forums about water getting on the pcm due to a manufacture error, but have not seen a recall for the issue. After removal of the air damn to do minor maintenance to the vehicle water is able to seep pass a misplaced spot weld and drip on top of the pcm unit. Damage to the unit causes several issues including the problem I am facing with my van.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

I currently own a 2004 Ford Freestar minivan. I have been experiencing start problems for a couple of weeks now. I drove the car about 10 miles to get gas. I turned the engine off to fuel up. I attempted to start the vehicle and it would not start. I called my husband to try to jump start the vehicle and it worked. Drove the car 1/4 mile down the road to autozone to have the battery tested. The battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle seemed to be repaired after the battery was replaced. About 5 days after the battery was replaced the vehicle would not start after several attempts. I called aaa to have it towed to the Ford dealership for repairs. The aaa mechanic tried to start it before just towing it. He moved the shifter to neutral and back and started to vehicle right up. Maybe I did not have the shifter in the proper position? since then, the vehicle has not started up quite a few times. . . . At random times, over the last few days. I was stranded at the doctors office with a no start. Called aaa again for a tow again. However, right before aaa got to me. . . . The vehicle started right up. I cancelled the aaa call and drove straight to the dealership for repair. The Ford dealership can not find any problem as to why the vehicle will not start. It starts every time for them. The alternator and the starter are fine. The battery has been replaced and there are no transmission error codes being emitted. I have a hunch that this is an electrical problem. It isn't anything else. The Ford dealership explained that they took a look at the pcm but could not see any water corrosion. So they did not replace it. So now, I am faced with picking up the vehicle and not knowing when I'll be stranded again because the vehicle will not start.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Ford freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced independent deceleration. The maintenance and traction control warning indicators had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 07/20/2013

The situation is very danger, the problem with the pcm issues, that share bad information with any other component in use, engine, transmission, lights, ac system, low battery or not turn on even with new battery, and the wires and connectors clean. The most dangerous is just stop running in middle of traffic, or some mechanic did not have idea about the problem, even the sarasota Ford mechanics. A few weeks a go I left the car for 2 days, present in my opinion transmission mal-function, after they charge me $140, no problems solved, and they say the technician report : needs engine work before transmission diagnostics. Needs cam syncro assy. (fix whinning noise) I agree ok. Need a sensor asy ??????? connect a little metal wire on top engine (they call bush. . . . . ???) after that all the problems still happening all the time. If you have any answer about all this, or place to go and get a real inspection and report. From now and forever, thank you very much.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

While driving through town at 30 miles per hour, engine stalled, lost power steering and speed control. The engine light came on and the transaxle light was blinking. Thank goodness I wasn't on the highway. I believe one bad part had been replace with another as the torque converter part had been replaced and here it was doing the same thing all over again less than 1 year later. I figured I had no options, what could I do, had it towed. I just feel if they are using inadequate parts to replace bad parts the danger continues to apply and they should be held accountable.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

I was driving the car when it suddenly stopped responding when pressing on the gas pedal. The vehicle eventually rolled to a stop. The engine was running, but the car would not move forward or reverse. Turns out it was the torque converter (transmission). It cost $1200 to repair. Very unusual for this to happen to a car with only 49000 miles. I googled the problem and got many hits. Ford had recalled the 2004 and 2005 models for this problem. Why not the 2006?.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 04/12/2013

While merging onto route 50 off 628 the car died. I drifted onto side of road, but in park and restarted it. Took exit off 50 at 450 and car stopped again. Put in park at red light, started up again and drove down riva road. Car stopped 4 more times before getting to my residence, each time engine stopping, no power steering and no brakes. Called koons Ford annapolis and had the car towed there the next day (since the incident occured on a Sunday). They kept the car for 1 week and could not confirm or duplicate any of the conditions. Possibly pcm but not sure. They found one error while driving it , but the computer could not find it. Payed for diagnostic test. Car has been running fine until 7/6/13 when exactly the same thing happened. Took back to Ford and 2 days later was told it was the pcm. Could not say how long it would take to get a new one as Ford does not have them it stock, but for $1300. 00 could place the order. Found a Ford tech blog that describes exactly what every one is going through and how to fix it. Water is leaking under the cowl and shorting out the pcm. There needs to be a recall on this before some one dies.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 04/12/2013

2005 Ford Freestar was recalled for torque convertor, third row seat latch. Less than one year later (March 2014) the same problem occurred with the torque convertor.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 01/09/2013

Trying to back out of my driveway, van will not go into reverse. Restart van, put it into reverse & it falters & stalls. Restart &got van into drive, but it will not accelerate until 3000 rpms, then jerks into drive & stalls again. Had it towed to a local mechanic I have used for over 20 yrs. Van shows no codes. Replace battery, have throttle body cleaned, cam sensor is tested, shows not problems. Van starts & runs for one day. Same exact issue happens again. Have it towed a second time. Again, no codes come up. Mechanic flushes out the tranny,& van runs again for 50 miles w/o incident. But again, trying to leave for work next day, van displays the exact same issues. No torque to move the van, constant stalling as soon as it is taken out of drive. Will not move at all or starts & moves very hesitantly into reverse, catches gear & jerks, stalls once again. Tow again to a Ford dealer. Told the prob is the recalled torque converter. Have it replaced, and van doesn't make it the 12 miles home. The van lost complete power on a highway & I was almost hit by oncoming traffic. Tow back, now being told the transmission needs replacement, over $3,000 because metal from the recalled part has dislogged into tranny. I am now finding thru my own research that this is a common problem relating to the pcm, which replacing tranny doesn't solve the issues. Ford is offering no help or compensation am a single mom of 2 kids, 1 is disabled,& now been fired from my job because I can't get there 28 miles away. The van is stranded at the dealer, because I have no money to fix or tow again. I am at my wits end. Ford needs to step up to the plate &replace this van!!!! repairing the torque converter, cam sensor, or transmission will not solve the pcm problem, which is not sealed properly, & after numerous repairs, will malfunction again> my q to Ford is:does someone have to die for u to do something?.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

I was traveling down the highway when my transmission completely quit working and my rpm's shot up to 5000. I coasted to the side of the road and the transmission would not engage. I had it towed to a local shop where I was referred to cottman transmission to get it evaluated. Cottman transmission said the transmission was full of water and completely burned up. They said that these vans have a problem with water leaking through the wiper vents onto the top of the pcm and water entering into the transmission. Upon more investigation I have found out that Ford has even acknowledged the problem and still has not issued a recall. They have issued a recall on some of the 04 and 05's for torque converter issues that sound like the same problem with the 06's. Something has to be done about this because I was traveling on a busy highway with my wife and kids and had the transmission locked up I could have caused a serious, possibly even fatal, wreck because of Ford's failure to correct a problem that they know exists! thankyou.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 07/21/2012

Vehicle lunges forward and tachometer shows momentary engine rpms up to 2500 causing vehicle to surge. Using the brake pedal to control the unexpected motion stalls out the engine which when restarted can only drive at very reduced speed. Ford dealership replaced throttle body and reprogrammed sensor for more tolerance as per new Ford specs. Service advisor attributed the bad throttle body to low quality gasoline.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

Just purchased this used 2004 Freestar. Within days the engine would fail while driving. Transmission shifting issues. Not starting. Etc. . Had transmission replaced before knowing of recall on that item. Still had the issues. Pulled out pcm and it was filled with water. Installed new one. I live in florida. Rainy season. Issues happened again within a week. New pcm removed and was filled with water. I myself found the service bulletin about the issue as well as several complaints by owners on the internet. My local dealership walker Ford swept the issue under the rug and wanted to charge $900 to find the leak. I showed them the bulletin that they were un aware of. They would not replace my pcm without charging me again. Went to another dealership and paid for new pcm and told them to perforce service bulletin. Seemed fine until last 6 months. Starting to stall a lot. High hum when accelerating and turning. More research online and I found 2 more recalls on vehicle. The pcm issue should be a recall. Find out how to permanently fix the issue and perform it for free with a new pcm.
