The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle abruptly accelerated without the contact depressing the accelerator pedal. There were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle operated normally once the brake pedal was depressed. The failure occurred on several occasions. The dealer could not duplicate the failure, but stated that the throttle body needed to be cleaned and the computer needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 118,000.
Vehicle lurches when brakes are applied in forward and reverse. Happened many times. The wrench indicator light came on also when this happened. This happened many times when we first purchased the vehicle. I checks threads on the internet and saw this as a common problem. I personally cleaned the throttle body as shown on youtube by a gentleman and it fixed the problem for awhile. This happened recently to my wife as she was leaving her work parking lot at low speed. Lurched when put in gear with brakes applied. Car felt uncontrollable. We see that an investigation on this problem has begun so I would confer with other vehicle owners. More times and dates than I can remember that lurching has taken place. One time I had to slip it into neutral to stop the car and apply the brakes.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving approximately 68 mph, the cbt transmission caused the vehicle to accelerate without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the pcm transmission control had exceeded the current condition. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate mileage was 79,957. The consumer stated two days after the vehicle was purchased, the wrench light illuminated. When the wrench light illuminated, the vehicle sounded and acted like it was stuck in gear. So, the only way to alleviate the issue, was to pull over, turn the vehicle off and back on again.
I filed a complaint about 2 years ago regarding my vehicle lunging forward. I received a notice to bring my car the Ford dealership for throttle body repair. Since taking my vehicle into the dealership for repairs I have noticed that my vehicle is hesitating. When you press on the accelerator the vehicle does not increase speed more than 8 to 10 miles when you push the accelerator to the floor. I have taken this vehicle to 2 different dealership that specialize in Ford product but not the Ford dealership. I have been told that my transmission needs to be rebuilt and I was told at another dealership that it was in desperate need of replacing or rebuilding. I feel as though Ford knows the problems that the owners are facing and need to step their game up. I have another year and a half before this vehicle will be paid in full. I feel at this point that Ford assembled all of these vehicles and should be held accountable for selling these lemons. When you start looking at complaint after complaint from different customers all over the world then you know there is a bigger problem. I feel all the money that I have invested and still investing to save my credit has turned me away from Ford vehicles of any kind at this point.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. The vehicle was shut down and restarted and resumed normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 85,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the vehicle would randomly lunge forward in drive and in reverse without warning. The vehicle also stalled multiple times as the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who was not able to replicate the failure. The vehicle continued to jerk violently and stall without warning. The contact had to put the vehicle in neutral to restart the vehicle multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was to be inspected and repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125000.
Was going home after visiting with a friend and on way back was driving normal speed limit on i75 north (65mph) when all of a sudden the car would not accelerate and ac started blowing warm, the wrench light came on. The car was still running but very poorly. I had to carefully get over into the right lane and drove on the side of the interstate to get off at the visible off ramp just a few yards away. I was able to get the car up to a mcdonalds at the top of the ramp. I shut it off and decided to go inside and eat. About 25~30 minutes later, I decided to try and start the car and see what would happen, the car started right up, everything worked as normal, no warning lights at all. We drove it the last 2 hours home without any concerns. We ran a code tester on the car the next day and nothing came up. That was in September 2013. Almost a year later, this September 2014, I had the same thing happen again, but I do not remember the light coming on this time and it happened after only driving the car 6 miles to my local home depot. Again once I got back into the car after about 45 minutes, everything seemed to be operating normal again. This is normally my wife's grandson mobile, she now says that there is opportunities with surging while stopping and taking off and the ac is blowing warm when she is at stops or not driving with engine running. I read a couple forums about why the ac may be acting up but this doesn't explain the limp mode thing and the new surging going on. We have no engine or warning lights at all. I will tell you I test drove it after her concerns and they are real, the surging thing is a concern and I don't like her driving it. At a local garage guys said it sounds like its that "Ford's" problem, but don't see recall for this vehicle. . . . Is this a Ford problem that is known? I can't spend a lot of money trying to find the root cause.
When it had the air condition on I kept jumping. I was scared it was going hit another car. Then I was on the expressway going 60 trying to pass a semi to get over and to get off and the car lost all power (shut off)omg panic. Started it up about 10 times before I got it back home.
As of this part Friday, I had the motor mount torque insert replaced. There was bad shifting, lunging & loss of gas mileage for the past few months. I have noticed that this was not happening in the cooler weather; just since it has gotten hotter & having to run the a/c on maximum. The car was lunging by itself in reverse & drive. Drove it home; did great. Ran alot of errands today & the emission/transmission light came on; vehicle stalled, no compression. A bit of whining (transmission issues) I will get it into the mechanic Monday a. M. , but from previous comments from other owners, this is a common problem. Again, definitely not a good thing w/a 2 1/2 year old in the vehicle almost all the time. Checked to see if any recalls & Ford says nothing. Looks as though the last update was in the end of 2012. Maybe Ford is going to pull this together & take care of business. This is a great car other than that.
Experienced a drop in throttle response going through a curve/intersection and reduced power. . . Pulled to the side of the road. . . Switched off ignition and restarted. Had experienced the same situation over the past three months and found a Ford recall to clean the throttle body and reprogram the controller. Dealership now tells me that the repair is to replace the throttle body at a cost of over $800.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle lunged forward unexpectedly. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who was unable to duplicate the problem. The technician offered to clean the throttle at their expense. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 98,862. Returned by usps on 9/10/2013. 2nd attempt on 9/12/2013 failed.
Vehicle was parked for approximately 15mins, sitting idle. I shifted to reverse and slowly released break pedal. Vehicle rpms surged to ~2000rpm and vehicle accelerated in the reverse direction rapidly. Vehicle was halted by a hard break response. I nearly collided with another vehicle. Leaving the vehicle in reverse and holding the break firmly, rpms oscillated between 800-2000 repetitively (approximately 1-2 seconds per oscillation). Vehicle eventually stalled. I have noticed this behavior frequently, and found it can occur in the forward or reverse directions. Fords claim that rpm only flares ~1300 in worst case is false. The claim that a the vehicle will only accelerate to 4 mph is false. The acceleration experienced by this flaw is very acute and could easily result in injury and/or death; especially given the aggravating factor that it occurs most frequently in low speed areas (driveways, parking lots with pedestrians, traffic stops, etc. . . ).
Had gone thru fast food drive thru and parked briefly to eat. Left vehicle running with a/c on. Put vehicle in reverse to back out of parking space. Vehicle lunged backwards across the driveway. Hit brakes quickly and did not hit anyone or other cars. Then when pulling out onto main road, vehicle alternately raced and sputtered. Took to Ford dealership where they replaced throttle body for $905. 30. Requested refund of repair charge under cust sat program 12n03. Denied because dealership did not note 'surge' in work order or include any trouble codes on invoice.
I turned left at the traffic light and the car was having trouble accelerating. Then I noticed the wrench symbol on the dash board light up. Although the car was moving forward it was not doing so as it would have normally. Went home and turned it off. I took it to the dealership and they have told me I need a new throttle body. This will be the second replacement of that part since we have owned the car( it was purchased new in April of 2006). So it will be the third throttle body in that car in seven years. Whether this is a part flaw or a design flaw on the part of Ford or it's manufacturing facilities something needs to be done about this. I have read so many complaints online about this problem it seems it would be time for the government to step in and make them pay for the repairs, as I'm sure there are many. It was nice of the tax payers to bail out the auto industry when they needed it, so what about us , the consumer, don't we count. We're the people that keep it in business in the first place. I'm hoping since this is my second report to you that perhaps a pattern is emerging enough, for something to be done about this problem for all of us.

I purchased a used 2007 Ford Freestyle w/ one previous owner about 6 months ago with 110k miles. Since then I may have added 5k miles or so, if not less. I took it in yesterday to the local Ford dealer because of some issues with the care not accelerating at times and wrench light coming on. I would also hear the care rev up unexpectedly while reversing and doing other odd things that made me uncomfortable. They said I need a new transmission. Parts alone would be $6k. This is unacceptable.
A few weeks ago I was backing out of the driveway in the morning (it was cold & frosty). When I put the vehicle into reverse it started to back out but then wouldn't accelerate. I pushed harder on the accelerator and it revved and finally went. The car felt off' while driving (shaky & not fully under control-like riding a bicycle when the chain slips but isn't completely off). The wrench light turned on but once I'd arrived at the destination & stopped & restarted the vehicle it seemed fine and the wrench light turned off. Last week I was again backing out and the vehicle would not accelerate, I pushed down more on the accelerator and it skipped / lurched back (almost hitting another vehicle). This happened twice more, both scary but manageable once I was able to turn the vehicle off and on again. Then this morning it happened again with the revving noise and poor and jumpy acceleration but after restarting, the 'check engine' light came on and has continued to be lit. So far I have only encountered the lurching and lack of acceleration occurring while in reverse, though it's continued once going forward until I can pull over and restart the vehicle. Until I can restart the vehicle it feels shaky and on the verge of dying, especially when at idle in traffic or red lights. I did a lot of research before purchasing the Freestyle. I chose it because it was one of the highest rated and 'safest' suvs with 3rd row seats - reviewed by the iihs, car-seat. Org and other organizations. I would not have purchased a Freestyle if these problems were well known to me at the time. We will look at the throttle body as recommended by other owners on this and other sites and I only hope that solves the problem. In the meantime I am afraid of the lack of acceleration and lurching problem happening around other vehicles and people so I am driving backroads where possible.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle is stalling out at low speeds and not responding to acceleration. The wrench warning icon comes on the dashboard when the worse problems are occurring. It is not the throttle bottle which has been replaced and been reprogrammed. The mechanic showed 4 error lights regarding the cvt transmission. The Ford dealership was unable to diagnose or fix the problem. Currently there is a mass class action lawsuit being filed in California, it is not a unique of isolated occurrence.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward when it was first started. In addition, when traveling at highway speeds the vehicle would lose power. The contact had to stop, shut off the vehicle and restart whenever the failure occurred. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the throttle body was cleaned and the pcm was re-programmed, but the failure still recurred. The failure mileage was 87,000 and the current mileage was 95,000.
While sitting in driveway and putting vehicle into gear the vehicle lunges both forward and backwards unexpectedly and without notice.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the service engine light illuminated and acceleration power decreased. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 136,000. Mh.
I just got the vehicle in November 2012 and on 12/12/2012 I was driving home, the rpms started revving on it's own at speeds between 50-60 mph. I was not increasing it's gas. I made it home and stopped at the mailbox; as I let off the brake the vehicle lurched forward without me hitting the gas. Then on 12/13/2012 as I was driving to work it did the same lurching coming out of park in my driveway and also at stop lights and signs. It also did the same revving and halfway to work it decided not to go over 40 mph.
Vehicle lunges forward because throttle revving the engine. Sitting in the car line to pick up children at school is worrisome. Throttle body replaced two times prior to this date. Ford dealer informed me that throttle body needs replaced again. This is unreasonable to have replaced so many times. I have owned many vehicles in my life, currently one with over 200,000 miles 12yrs old, have never replaced a throttle body. This is a safety hazard much like the recent Toyota accelerator issue. Throttle body should be a recall item or should be covered for replacement by Ford for life of vehicles.
Vehicle would not slow as exit off freeway, rpms increased against braking system. Very dangerous and would not slow. Almost lost control of vehicle. Also, continues to worsen, lungin forward and in reverse.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated to 40 mph without warning. The contact would have to restart the vehicle in order for the vehicle to perform normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technicians advised her that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she experienced the same failure one year prior to the recent failure and the vehicle was repaired then for the throttle body. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. The current mileage was approximately 183,000.
Vehicle lunges while at zero or low speeds sometimes almost causing a collision with other vehicles or stationary items.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph and approaching a traffic stop, the vehicle surged forward abnormally. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000. The current mileage was approximately 125,500. The VIN was unavailable. Kmj.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while stopped with the brakes applied, the engine rpms increased to 3,000 as the vehicle lunged forward abnormally. The vehicle then stalled without warning. The vehicle was not taken for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 93,800. The current mileage was 94,000.
I was backing up in the drive way and the car accelerated on it's own the engine rpgs went to 4000 without me pressing the gas. The call continued to accelerate until I pressed brakes and it stalled.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving under 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated automatically with no warnings when he attempted to park. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the mechanic cleaned the throttle housing but it did not fix the problem. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000. The approximate current mileage was 93,000.
Anytime I go from park to reverse or drive at idle speed my car lunges. On this particular day I was backing out of a parking spot. The car lunged so hard it through codes and the wrench on the dash lite up and car lost all acceleration power. I parked the car and drove it the next day and the power was back and the wrench was not lite anymore. It really scares me to drive this car.
2006 Ford Freestyle at low speeds all of a sudden lunges both in reverse or in drive.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while in reverse with the brakes depressed, the engine rpms increased as the vehicle jerked in reverse. The same failure recurred while stopped at a light with the brakes depressed. The vehicle also decelerated while the contact was driving highway speeds. The contact noticed the failure occurred mostly when the weather was warm and when the air conditioner was activated. The manufacturer was made award of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
