9 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2012

The 2007 Freestyle which was built near the end of 2006. It was ok when first purchased as used back in 2008. But as time went on its throttle began to surge unexpectedly. Eventually it began to happen often enough for my wife and I to notice how it usually happens when the ac is on. It's particularly a problem while pulling in and out of parking spaces. Now it happens every single day beginning when the car is backed out of the garage. We have learned to keep our foot on the brake to stop the car from crashing into anything. To me the problem seems to be getting worse. But I don't drive it as often as does my wife. She says that the progression of the problem seems to have slowed down. But she says she has gotten used to compensating for it. The car also has difficulty starting occasionally. Maybe that is related to the surging throttle. But so far we have not noticed the starting problem correlating with anything in particular. The local Ford dealer says there is a recall to have the throttle body cleaned. That has been scheduled.

We are experiencing the lunging and sudden acceleration at idle speed on our 2007 Ford Freestyle. When moving in a parking lot, it is very apparent, particularly as you change from reverse to forward. You really need to pay attention, and keep your foot on the brake because the vehicle does lunge. We recently have had another issue with this vehicle while driving on vacation. The little "wrench" appeared near the end of our trip and the vehicle appeared to be losing "power" to the wheels. After the vehicle cooled down, it operated normally and the wrench did not appear again, yet.

27 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2008

The issue of "unintended acceleration" has been an issue with this vehicle when I first used the air conditioner in March of 2008. I ran into the back end of another car at a drive through fast food restaurant when the car surged and the brakes did not hold the vehicle back. There was no damage to either vehicle. I took it to a Ford dealer to check out the issue. They said there was nothing wrong. Over the years I have taken to other Ford dealers who also said their was nothing wrong - most recently 02/15/11. Over the years the vehicle has jumped over parking spaces concrete stops. The "unintended acceleration" happens dozens of times every day. I will not let anyone else in the family drive the vehicle. This vehicle is dangerous and Ford doesn't care!.
