We purchased the 2007 Ford Freestyle only one month ago from a dealer in blair nebraska who certified that there were no problems with the vehicle purchased. We have not owned this vehicle for more than a month. While driving today with the family (children included) down the freeway the vehicle stopped accelerating in the center of heavy traffic. Lucky no accident was caused! the vehicle started lurching and then would not go over 25 mph. We are understanding that there are several complaints about this vehicle performing the same way with many others in class action and forums.
2007 awd Ford Freestyle. Lunges forward, revs up on it's own, completely stalls out. Have learned it is the throttle body. Ford knows about this and there is no recall. Why? this is very dangerous to anyone driving this car. There is a facebook page dedicated to people in my position. Cars stalling out on highway, on railroad tracks. Mine died in an intersection. The problem is much worse when hot out and air conditioning is on high. Why isn't Ford doing anything about this? who has over $1,000 to fix this problem? why is our safety not important enough to recall this car?.
Lunging & cutting off. Vehicle would occasionally lunge & required braking to keep it stationary. Begin cutting off recently. Would restart, run a few minutes and cut off again. Carried to Ford dealer on 02/09/11 and problem was diagnosed as a malfunctioning fuel system throttle body.
At a slow speed in either forward or reverse when I put my foot on the brake the engine speeds up and the car lunges forward or backwards and I have to hit the brake hard to stop it. This has happened several times and seems to be happening more often now. A couple of times the engine seeded up while the car was in park I see where Ford brushes the problem off as being minor. I think this is a dangerous thing and should be corrected. If it happens while you are parallel parking it can cause an accident . Also when backing out of a parking space you could get into an accident. With over 200 complaints I think something should be done before someone is seriously injured from this defect by Ford.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle lurches at idle. It also cuts off when the air conditionoing is running and I turn the wheel sharply.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle will lunge in forward and reverse. It stalled last night when it was in reverse and this happened. It is happening more often. This is very frightening and could easily cause an accident.
I was beginning backing up my wifes' 2007 Ford Freestyle in the harris teeter parking lot on 07/17/2011 when the vehicle suddenly accerlated and I had to hit the brakes hard to avoid loss of control. The vehicle stalled. I restarted the vehicle, put it in reverse and it accelerated suddenly again, I braked and it stalled again. I was far enough out of the parking spot to go forward by this point. I put the vehicle in drive and went forward out of the parking lot. Now I had acceleration problems as the engine did not accelerate properly- I couldn't get the motor past 3000 rpm. I called the local Ford dealer (beach Ford) on the following Monday, scheduled a repair appointment and took the vehicle in for repair. The dealer replaced the throttle body assembly at a total cost of $792. 16. The vehicle is again driving properly.
My Ford Freestyle has 87,000 miles. Until recently, it has been a terrific car. However, it now has had intermittent problems that (according to the code) are linked to the throttle body. The transmission and engine lights come on. The accelerator doesn't work, and then it lunges unexpectedly. After researching online, I found hundreds of others are having this issue.
At first occurrence, I was pulling into a parking space. As I took my foot off the gas and placed it on the brake my car lurched forward unexpectedly. This unexpected lurching has increased in frequency and happens both in drive and reverse. There have also been incidents when the car is in park and it revs, as if I am pushing on the gas pedal. It will rev like that and idle down a few times and then the engine will stall.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle has been having an issue with lurching forward when the brakes are applied. Several close misses of rearending someone due to this issue. Ford needs to investigate and recall these vehicles. It is an safety issue and Ford has known about it for sometime.
My vehicle lurches when idling and jumps in rpm unexpectedly after slowing which if you are not on the brakes causes the vehicle to move uncontrollably and rapidly.
The car leaped forward unexpectedly while pulling up to a stop sign. This happened on 7/02/2011 for the first time. We had this occur several more times in the next few days, always while stopping or parking the car. In one instance the car would of struck a light pole, had there not been a curb there. This seems to occur whether the car is cold or has run for awhile. We are now having to drive this car like it may leap forward at anytime. Ford needs to get this taken care of before some is seriously injured.
Defective throttle body.
On the date shown, while driving in a funeral procession and entering the cemetery my vehicle started to lurch, lunge and bucking. Tried to give it gas but didn't respond. I then shut the vehicle off and when I started upon leaving the cemetery the vehicle started this again. I drove to the dealership and the maintenance person told me that this was being caused by a sensor and that I could shut the vehicle down and restart after a few minutes. This seemed to work for a while then the same problems kept occurring. This was mentioned a number of times to the dealer with the same explanation. I think that this problem has now created another in the the transmission on the vehicle is gone.
I have taken my 2007 Ford Freestyle to two separate dealers for surging. Neither dealer admitted hearing of this issue before. The car will surge urge to almost 2000 rpms and then die back to around 500 rpms and struggle to run. It will repeat this until the car is shut off and restarted. In the 4 years of ownership this has happened at least a dozen times as recently as last Friday. My wife refuses to drive the vehicle as it will do this at intersections and she does not trust the car to be able to accelerate when needed. I thought I was the only one having these issues according to the dealer service department.
Unexpected vehicle surging, near misses have occured, happens in reverse and drive.
2007 Ford Freestyle started surging on highway and the wrench icon came on on the dashboard. We slowed down a drove home because it was snowing. Took it to repair shop and were charged 600. 00 to repair the throttle body. Checked the internet and this seems to be a problem with this vehicle.
Our2007 Ford Freestyle is doing something exactly as described by many other owners on the internet. Not every time, but intermittently, when you put the car in drive or reverse the engine revs and the car surges a few feet. More often than not when it does this our foot will be on the brake. Initially I thought I must have had part of my foot on the accelerator. I now know for sure that no part of my foot is on the accelerator when this is happening. We are having to be very careful when driving the car, because of this dangerous situation. If you don't have your foot hard on the brake when putting it into gear, and if there was a person or a vehicle in front or behind you, you would hit them. Initially it may only happen once or twice a month, but now it is happening more frequently. When we first brought it to a Ford dealership in tracy, CA. , they said they had no idea why this was happening. Now that our extended warranty has expired, we are just finding out that there are many other people out there with the same dangerous problem happening. I have read that it is because of a faulty throttle body unit. I am working with a new dealership to try to get it fixed.
2007 Ford Freestyle lunges at low speeds when foot is not on gas pedal. Investigations point to throttle body needs replacing.
Vehicle began surging on highway and throttle was not responding properly. Took the vehicle to donnell Ford, boardman, ohio on 12/8/10 and was told the throttle boy needed replaced and vehicle was unsafe to drive. Cost to repair was $860. 00.
Bought a used 2007 Ford Freestyle limited 3. 0 duratec engine, cvt automatic transmission 2 weeks prior to incident. Had Ford dealer tune-up the engine, replace front crankshaft seal on engine and replace the cvt fluid & filters as well as perform a multi-point inspection. After work performed (which required the removal of the intake manifold w/throttle body attached for the tune-up) the vehicle now surges badly when in reverse pulling out of parking spot. Does so quite powerfully and is very dangerous to any life & property that is around the vehicle when surging occurs unexpectedly. No doubt in my mind had my wife been driving she would have panicked and there would have been a loss of life or property. Fortunately I was driving and managed (just barely) to maintain control. Took back to dealer to diagnose and was quoted the throttle body needed to be r/r'd. Was told by service manager Ford was well aware of the issue but has failed to respond with a recall.
I recently bought a used 2007 Ford Freestyle and noticed that it started "lurching" intermittently after being stopped. It would go lurch in drive or reverse, it didn't matter. Recently, it would not start. Thinking it was the battery, I replaced it with a brand new one and it would not stay running. I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it as a bad throttlebody. I am still waiting on my car to be fixed.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle with 58,334 miles on it has begun to surge at low speeds, especially between shifts from forward to reverse during parking. It is worse on hot weather days and the air conditioner running. It has caused near misses with people and other vehicles. I see my vehicle is not alone and wonder why this hasn't been addressed with a recall. Are we waiting for someone to be killed first?.
2007 Ford Freestyle. . . . I was setting at a stop sign with my foot on the brake and just as I was easing my foot off the brake to pull out the gas surged and put me in the middle of the road and the car died. It was not a major road and with quick thinking I geared to park turned the key off and started it back up and pulled over into a parking lot while setting in the parking lot it done the same thing. If this had been my wife or son or daughter driving this could have been a deadly event. Similar events are posted all over the internet and something needs to be done this is a serious situation and needs to be addressed promptly.
2007 Ford Freestyle accelerator surges uncontrollably. It happens when trying to park using reverse and when using reverse and drive. Really bad when it is hot outside or vehicle has been running for a while.
We own a 2007 Ford Freestyle with 61,000 miles. We purchased this vehicle new in 2007. The car has recently developed a problem with unintended rapid acceleration which occurs without warning and can happen in forward gear or reverse. We additionally have experienced several situations where the vehicle will not accelerate normally -even with full throttle press on the accelerator. Took vehicle to local Ford dealer and they have diagnosed the problem as throttle body defect and say that it may take 3 weeks for part to be shipped. So that repair can be made. They further state that this is not going to be covered by warranty. This erratic behavior of the vehicle is a safety hazard to the driver and the public since it appears to occur without any warning.
My wife drives a 2007 Ford Freestyle and has lately been experiencing the vehicle lunging/surging at low idle going forward or backward. Today she almost crashed into the garage. When I researched it online, many people are having the same problem, and the part needed to repair is back-ordered for weeks. I hope it doesn't take a serious accident or even a death for this to be addressed. I'm writing Ford at the same time, but don't know what help to expect since many on the blogs with the vehicles say they're not getting any satisfaction from Ford. Please look into this. I know many people have already written you about it.
Since 2007 when I bought my Ford Freestyle, I have had it into the Ford dealer numerous (approx 10) times for investigation of the lunging forward issues as well as slow throttle response after long idle times. I have had several incident's where I have almost hit parked cars in parking lots, stalls in the middle of intersection. Each time that the vehicle was taken in the common response was "we do not find a problem at this time". In the spring of 2009 it was found that the throttle body was bad and was replaced in late summer 2009 after waiting 5 months for the part, due to a national back order of the part. Prior to having the throttle-body replaced, one of the two scenarios would happen 1-2 times a week and more frequent at 3-5 times per week just before the throttle-body was replaced. On 7/24/2011 the car lunged forward once again and then accelerated rapidly forcing me to press the brake harshly until I could get the car in neutral and shut off. This incident almost caused my to crash into the back end of a semi-trailer before I could get it shut down. At this time I have not suffered any personal injury, but have come very close to causing damage to other's property (vehicles) due to the nature of this problem. Although the throttle -body was replaced, the issue is still present in my case and I am requesting that further investigation be performed before serious injuries or death is incurred. I have noticed that these issues seem to be happening in hot and extremely hot conditions outside and have yet to experience these issues during the cooler months.
I own a 2007 Ford Freestyle, and two days ago, while driving, it began losing power, then accelerating fast forward and backward. I took it to the shop, only to be told the throttle body seems to be bad. I was going to take it to the Ford dealer to see if this is covered under the 80,000mi. Emissions warranty. I saw alot of other complaints about this part and the same vehicle, so I wondered if it was recalled by Ford, but did not see that it has been. I can not drive my vehicle, as this is a very serious issue if it over accelerates when I hit the gas. My vehicle only has 69,000mi on it.
I own a 2007 Ford Freestyle and am having problems with sudden acceleration when I am stopped at a light or when I put the car in reverse. It has almost caused me to hit other objects. I am taking the car in on Thursday to have it looked at.
2007 Ford Freestyle will unexpectedly surge and then shut off. The surge has cause me to hit a parking sign and almost strike several other cars. Had it back to the Ford dealer 2 times so far. The first time was told the air filter was wrong and charged me $116. 00. Second time I mentioned I had found lots of problems online involving the throttle body on this vehicle. Received a call that the throttle body was indeed the problem but none are available for at least a month. They cleaned mine and said keep driving. This surge has happened 6 times inthe last week.
6-22-2010, vehicle began surging and would lunge forward at idle speed with foot on brake. Wrench light on dash is on and vehicle continues to do this in drive and reverse. Took to service department 6-23-2010 to have checked. Was informed problem was throttle body assembly. Part is on back order due to multiple problems with this same part. Cost is est. $800 repair. Am now having to drive a vehicle I no longer consider safe until part is available or problem is taken care of by manufacture. Multiple searches online found that this is a growing problem with this vehicle and no reports have been made to date by manufacturer to solve the problem. Vehicle is a 2007 Ford Freestyle.
This started last year, when warm weather started, tried to back up after vehicle had been idling for awhile, Freestyle stalled out and tried to jump, about three times in a row, before we could get in drive. This seems to be an on going intermittent problem that happens in warm weather. Took a friend to the hospital on 05/25/11. Drove to east gate from my house to pick her up, stopped at fast food place, had to wait for food, noticed gauge needles all jumped up and then fell back down while waiting w/a/c and engine running in park. Pulled out, went to downtown cincinnati, got into parking garage, vehicle started to lurch when I took my foot from the brake. I slammed both feet on brake, to keep from hitting anyone, or anything, vehicle stalled. I restarted, and kept both feet on the brake, the vehicle again tried to lurch out, and then died. This happen 3 or 4 times in succession, finally got vehicle under control, and parked it. It was parked about 30 minutes, drove back to eastgate, and then home. Wrench and transmission light came on at time of incident. It was still on when I got home. It went off after a couple of days. On 5/30/11, dropped off friend from work, on my way home, talked in car for awhile with engine and a/c running while in park. Upon driving to main road, vehicle stalled, restarted no acceleration, when I hit the gas, vehicle stalled again. Pulled over to side, turned everything off, removed key, restarted and drove home. Dealership called today, said it was the throttle body and will cost me about $600. 00 to install a new throttle body. This is a safety issue that many people are having, after reading info on edmunds. Com updated 06/0/8/bf.
My Freestyle has a problem with the engine surging / lurching while driving both forward or reverse even when the brake is applied. On 25 Aug 2009, I made an appointment with beach Ford dealership in virginia beach, va. The technician could not replicate the problems I was having. The maintenance team tried again and conducted a "pin point test" and found out that the tb needs to be replaced. The dealership ordered the part which is in back order until 7 Dec, 2009.
Lurching out of control car had to be held with extreme force on the brakes. Took to dealer Jun 15, 2009 replaced throttle body and motor assy. Cost $732. 86 June 15, 2011 car has been lurching again, almost took out our kitchen wall, holding brake hard saved home,.
