Traveling on hwy at approx 60 mph, wrench light came on, "failsafe engine mode" message appeared and car powered down. Pulled over, turned car off, waited 1 min, restarted car. Message was cleared and car drove as normal. About 20 miles later, same problem, except check engine light and message appeared. Pulled over, turned off car, restarted. Check engine light and message remained. Very low power upon acceleration. Problem continued intermittently. Received engine code p2111, p2112 relating to throttle body problem. Etb had been cleaned 11/13 by dealer per technical service bulletin issued by Ford. No problems until 12/14. Service performed to reprogram etb, no cleaning was needed. Problem recurred 12/23/14. Check engine light is on and no power upon acceleration persists. Codes indiacte etb needs to be replaced.

Own a 2005 Ford Freestyle, v6, 3. 0, all wheel drive, limited edition. I started hearing loud grinding and knocking noises from the cvt transmission. The vehicle will start, and the rpms will increase and decrease uncontrollably. This is the reason the cvt transmission in these vehicles are going bad, malfunctioning, and breaking continuously. The rpms are delayed in the decreasing rpms process, which tells the computer to shift prematurely, or to quickly, causing any internal parts and external parts to be damaged. These vehicles are equipped with a computerized throttle positioning sensor that is attached to the actual throttle body. The computer is sending improper commands to the throttling position sensor, rpms, shifting delay and synchronized shifting sensors. This is putting too much of a load on the gears, bearings, clutches, and other parts pertaining to the functioning of the cvt transmission shifting and everyday use. Ford motor company (as stamped on the VIN and vehicle information sticker inside and on the driver side door jam of the vehicle) should have perfected and or recognized these issues during the manufacturing, testing, and or dino sessions. All vehicle designs are to be tested, diagnosed if any issues occur, and are to be fixed, redesigned, and replaced. Ford should take recognition to the customers and dealers that own these vehicles. People are purchasing these vehicles without the knowledge of possible failure and technical difficulties of these units. These issues can cause the vehicles, especially the vehicles that are all wheel drive, to lock up, brake, break, accelerate uncontrollably, and cause wrecks, fender benders, or more severe injuries, and even the lives of people of this great nation. The united states government will need to take action immediately, before Ford motor company vehicles kill, eliminate, and or decease people.
While driving, the instrument panel cluster stopped working correctly. The odometer was reading off the charts, but the engine seemed - at least sounded like it was - working just fine. This has happened in warm weather (we live in utah) and cold. It doesn't seem to happen in only one temperature and happens frequently. We also experience issues with the interior panel lights not working, as well as, on occasion the exterior brights do not work. This happened to me during a rain storm and was extremely inconvenient. Another recent issue that has popped up is the awd malfunction light appearing when nothing seems to be wrong. I had the car in park, and when I put it in reverse to pull into traffic, the light appeared. I was not going over 40 mph and it is August in utah (not rainy, snowy or any kind of elements that you might have to drive in).
After driving home, approximately 10 miles and speeds up to 50mph, I noticed smoke coming from the passenger side mirror. The smoke lasted a few minutes and then stopped on its own. Not sure if this information is pertinent or not, but it had been raining and the dvd player was playing during the trip.

I was driving on the freeway roughly 65-70 mph and the failsafe engine mode came on, which disabled my gas pedal. I could not accelerate. I was in the far left lane, and had to "coast" with my hazard lights on so I could turn the car off while in park on the shoulder. I restarted the car and it went away. Thankfully traffic was light! earlier in the week this same thinghappened on my way to qwork I was on a 35 mph rd, and it did this, lost all use of the gas. Had to kill the car and restart but that time the check engine codes p2106 and p061b were drawn. (not the first time I've had these codes I know they mean throttle body'sbad) ii've kept my obdii scanner in the car cuz these codes come up once a week at least. I just keep erasing them, restarting the car, and drives fine till it randomly goes off again. Thus was the first time it has happened to me on the highway. It scared me to death that I would have been rear ended on a highway. Thse should be recalled. Ford claims there's no safety issue. I barely avoided a potential fatal crash!.
Driving up to 55, engine gets to 4000 rpms, and wont shift. Codes suggest bad mechatronic.
While driving on highway my traction control, airbag, seat belt, abs & parking brake lights came on. I was able to drive car home, but soon after my transmission was also affected. Took car to dealer and a week later, they finally found the traction control motor is gone and needs to be replaced $900. 00. Dealer doesn't know if the traction controller needs to be replaced too, but will test that after loading new motor. If the controller needs to be replaced ,then it's another 1,200. 00 on top of everything else. Dealer originally thought it was an electrical problem which they never found and costing so much money and time.

Car gives codes for safemode and there is no solution.
The interior lights came on w/o turning them on and the switch was in the off position. Also, no doors were ajar at the time of the incident. At the same time the headlights turned on and off three separate times within one minute. This occurred on 05/14/2014, 05/17/2014 and 05/20/2014. All incidents were while driving at night. The first incident was while traveling on the interstate at 65 mph, the road was smooth with no rough areas hit at the time of the incident. The second incident occurred while traveling at 35 mph on a city road which was also smooth and the final incident occurred while traveling on a local highway at about 60 mph on a smooth roadway.
I unlocked my car to load the back. I noticed smoke coming from the passenger side mirror. There was a small fire which I put out with water. Now my radio and power windows will not work and the fuse blows when we tried to replace (2x). I have not yet taken it in since it is the weekend, but I am not happy about a random fire that may have burned the entire vehicle if not noticed.
On March 15, 2014 while driving my Ford Freestyle my car completely lost power on a 2 lane state road. I lost power steering to be able to completely get my car off the road. My child and I were broke down in the evening 40 miles from home and cars were coming fast behind us barely getting over even though I had my flashers on. I thought maybe my gas gauge stopped working and I was out of gas. By the grace of god someone we knew drove past us and came back. They went and got gas for the car thinking maybe the same issue. Nothing helped to restart the car. I had it towed to a mechanic that we know. He put it on the computer and low and behold it's the throttle body that needs replaced, the same part that I understood a year before was replaced. I was told it was replaced because there was a recall. I find out later it was not replaced that it was actually a customer satisfaction program that I call is a cya for Ford. The only thing required of the dealership is to clean and reprogram, something only a Ford dealership can do. I thought it must be under warranty cause I had the work done less than a year. Only to find out that Ford just authorized a band aid fix and that my throttle body would have to now be replaced and my cost. Prior to this my car almost lunged us into the side of our house as I was pulling into our carport. Not the normal breaking that Ford tells NHTSA in their report. I had to put all my might with both feet on the breaks to stop my car from running into our house. Also not the other bs lie Ford tells nhsta that the car looses power but does not loose control of power steering and breaks. On both occasions that I had a problem all of what Ford tells NHTSA is not an issue is definitely a safety issue. Im appalled that NHTSA has to wait for someone to die to stop believing the bs lies Ford is giving them. Do something.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the check engine warning lamp flashed several times and then went off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. When the vehicle was in reverse, it independently surged backwards and the contact had to quickly apply the brake pedal each time the failure occurred. The contact also stated that the vehicle hesitated numerous times upon starting and then stalled. The contact had to apply the brake pedal while at a stop due to the vehicle independently moving forward. The vehicle was not inspected and diagnosed. The contact was not able to drive the vehicle for several months due to the intermittent failures. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 12,000.
We went out to the garage to get in the car to leave. I opened the back of the car to put a bag in. My daughter went to the passenger side to get in and the mirror was smoking. We went to get a fire extinguisher but it burned out on its own. There was smoke and flames coming from behind the mirror glass. I unplugged the mirror to keep it from burning again. Now my windows don't work.
I drove a short distance, less than a quarter mile and no more than 30 mph. I turned the car off, got out, walked around the rear of the car, and smelled an electrical fire. I didn't notice it at first, but gray smoke was pouring out of the passenger side view mirror. I got a fire extinguisher and by the time I was ready to use it a minute later the smoke had stopped. It was raining so maybe some water got in and shorted it out. Updated 09/19/lj updated 12/26/2013.
The dash turned off. All of the dash components are not working including the mileage, speedometer, gas, oil, turn signals etc. It is not safe to drive. It fails several times during the day and at night keeping me guessing if I am driving the speed limit or not and if my turn signals are working. The airbag safety light also is not working, flashing on and off keeping me wondering if I have any safety at all. This problem is not just happening with my car but others in my year and make. It is not safe for the driver, passenger, and other cars on the road. This needs to be fixed. As of now, the bug has not fixed itself. The electronics have been off for a full day and I am worried they won't turn back on. Please do some further work on this problem. Thank you.
I took my car in to be serviced for maintenance (power steering service and transmission service) to the Ford dealership in thomasville, GA. After a few days my 2005 Ford Freestyle started to display transmission data error, check track control, and check engine lights. I called the company and was advised to bring it in and I did. The alerts were not on at the time but the service man jerry and josh told me they would check my vehicle and let me know what - if anything was wrong. They kept it all day and when I returned to pick it up I was informed that it was fine and they re-serviced my transmission. About two weeks later my car started the same thing all over again while in traffic it seemed not to want to pull off normally with all these alerts lighting up after church one Sunday. I called Ford of course they were closed but the next day was Monday I called and was asked to bring the car back in. This time once it started to do the same things jumping in gear and knocking hard this time the service man who answered my call says they are looking for a transmission and advised me that Ford would pay for half the work and parts. I asked if they didn't cause it why would you offer to pay half. The last time they got my Ford Freestyle they gave me a borrowed vehicle and told my husband 4 days later that the car has electrical problems that they will pay none of the repair. I was told twice my car was fine now my husband just got a new job and no way to get to it because I believe Ford damaged my vehicle and refuses to right their wrong. What can I do now?.
Where to begin. . . . The brakes are shot. Don't work at all. During the summer and fall the car will randomly go into "failsafe mode" and just stop. It has to be turned completely off for several minutes before attempting to turn back on and will generally do this up to 8 times before I just shut it off and leave it until the next day. During these months it will also get a mind of it's own and just leap forward. I have to stop 2 car lengths behind any car in front of me when I'm coming to a stop, otherwise it will lunge forward (even though I have my foot firmly applied on the brake) and hit the car in front of me. Oh, and will jump curbs, hit garage doors, all that good stuff too when it gets this surge. Then, during the winter months the door latch gets stuck and the car doors are literally frozen open. I can't drive anywhere with two small children and car doors that won't shut. Oh, and my vehicle wasn't included in the recall so I can't get it fixed. Oh and did I mention the brake system doesn't work? like won't hold brake fluid, air is all in the lines, and hardly no brakes. Have you ever tried driving with no brakes?? it sucks! and forget driving on the highway with my kids in this car. I don't trust it at all!!.
Our steering is locking up and the battery light stays on and sometimes the doors wont latch the steering is very dangerous it locks up and you cant keep it on the road.
We were at a stand still in traffic leading to the off ramp, a vehicle came speeding down the on ramp and by his own addmission was not paying attention. He then rammed into the back of our vehicle and hit us so hard that it triggered a muti car crash, 6 vehicles in all. During repairs of the vehicle we were told that the engine was experiencing idle surge. It was also noted that this was not due to the vehicle accident. We paid out of pocket some 1,700. 00 and we continue to have the same issues. The Ford dealership has not and will not correct the problem. Ford is responsible for this repair and I would like to see some action taken on their part. I called Ford corporate office and was told dispite my vehicle being included in the 2005-2007 recall my particular VIN number is not included in that lot. Not good customer service.
My car lunged forward several times. At at least one point it lunged with such force that I had to put both feet on the break and push with all my might to stop it from hitting my house when pulling in to park. Under Ford's so called research it said normal break pressure stopped the worse case scenario, a lie. My child was in the car with me and she was very scared. I had had problems prior but was thinking maybe bad gas. I call Ford to find out that I had a "recall" "customer satisfaction program" which was a one time fix to clean and reprogram the throttle body. Some Ford service department employees are frustrated with this issue because they know its just a "band aid" fix. It doesnt take care of the problem, which is a safety issue. My band aid fix didn't last a year. Found myself broke down with my child on the road with no control a yr later. You wonder what was the problem. Throttle body this time had to be replaced at full cost to me!!! my car lost power quickly and had no control with power steering etc. Couldn't get my car off the road. Was broke down right in a 2 lane state road with cars going 55mph. And barely getting over to keep from hitting me. Another lie told by Ford where they say it doesn't effect having control of your car. Want to know whats odd. A family member had to take their vehicle to the dealership because their mechanic could not fix it, why? throttle body went bad, full cost to her also. I'm complaining again due to finally getting the paperwork which the dealership said they couldn't give it to me at that time and a friend whom my husband carpools to work with is having the same symptoms, when checking his VIN# his car is under that csp. However his can be replaced at Ford cost but we will see. They were on a highway with speed limit 70mph. Very dangerous. I feel Ford is failing and NHTSA is satisfied with Ford's bs.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While driving approximately 50 mph, the entire instrument panel began to fluctuate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing where they stated the instrument cluster would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate mileage was 122,946.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the engine rpms increased and the warning lights illuminated as the vehicle began to jerk. The vehicle would also decelerate independently while the contact was driving highway speeds. The vehicle was taken to both a dealer and an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired but diagnosed with a transmission failure as well as an ecu failure. The manufacturer was note made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 133,000.
I just got the vehicle in November 2012 and on 12/12/2012 I was driving home, the rpms started revving on it's own at speeds between 50-60 mph. I was not increasing it's gas. I made it home and stopped at the mailbox; as I let off the brake the vehicle lurched forward without me hitting the gas. Then on 12/13/2012 as I was driving to work it did the same lurching coming out of park in my driveway and also at stop lights and signs. It also did the same revving and halfway to work it decided not to go over 40 mph.
Car leaks when it rains. Third row driver side cup holders stay full of water, I pulled plug below spare tire to keep water from filling up and rusting the tire. Many complaints online about this car leaking. Now the electrical system is damaged, the reverse lights stay on, and the taillights sometimes have water in them.
Engine sputter then failure. Then computer error states, fail safe engine mode. Diagnostic reveals throttle body failure. Common problem according to service department recall pending, why won't u act. Web full of this complaint.
My instrument panel started going out while I was driving down the highway one night and it caused my reverse lights to flash on and off. This is a problem that Ford knows about and it is a problem due to faulty solder joints on the back of the instrument panel, there is a TSB for this, but there is no recall on this why? this problem has also led to my transmission going out again, and Ford will do nothing about any of it. I am not the only one who has had this problem either there are tons of owners of this car that have had these issues. Ford needs to be held accountable for these issues that are a result of faulty manufacturing. We are a hard working family and we spent everything we had replacing the transmission in our car six months ago, and our warranty was up seven days before our transmission went out and now thanks to the faulty instrument panel doing whatever it was doing to the computer when it was cutting in and out it has tore my almost $4000. 00 transmission up and now I have no car to haul all of my children around in. I also contacted Ford via email and the response I got was save your receipts in case of a recall or a forgiveness program is started up.
So many issues with the transmission not sure where to start. Car was running fine yesterday and then today car had the wrench light on and lost power on the expressway at about 75 mph. Turned the card off and the light was still on but at least I got partial power. The car shudders and won't shift and sometimes when I push the gas pedal nothing happens. When I am stopped car will lunge forward even with my foot on the brake. Called several Ford dealerships and they said they are not certified to work on that type of trans but they will replace it for 7000. 00!!!! I have read so many posts with the exact same issue. Why is there no recall?? I could have been killed!!! or worse my kids could have been hurt. Doesn't anyone care enough to do something?.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The failure recurred intermittently as the contact drove at various speeds . The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer advised that the computer had to be reset. After the repair the failure continued. The check engine warning light was also illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
While maneuvering my vehicle in a small space (forward, reverse, turning the wheel) the car began to surge and lunge (has occurred before, but mostly in reverse. ) there was loud whining when I turned the steering wheel (that began recently and is almost constant. ) the engine began to rev loudly, the car trying to lunge even with the brake applied. I reversed the car several feet from the road for fear it would lunge into traffic. The engine light (1st time ever) and the wrench symbol came on. Car went into limp mode, would not accelerate or exceed 30mph. (4th or 5th time this has happened in the one year I've owned the car. ) diagnostic codes given by autozone on 9/19/p2106 (throttle actuator control system) & p061b (internal control module torque calculation performance error. ) upon restart, engine light off. Dealer was contacted, and on 9/26/12 I drove the car to repair shop. They said Smart junction box melted, must replace (electronic chassis control module )before doing repairs to the throttle body, cvt and suddenly non-working a/c (was working prior). No repairs have been made to the vehicle as the dealership (not Ford) refuses to honor the 36,000ml warranty with car. Recent problems prior to 9/26/12:*highway driving (55+mph/sometimes using cruise) car revs high rpms/will not accelerate at all/resumes later*sputters/stalls/loses power when slowing/stopping (it does restart) instrument panel brightens/dims*power locks malfunctioning (unlock function works with fob only) often while driving car locks/unlocks continuously/car randomly unlocks after being parked/turned off player not working/displayed error code/2 month later working again*security system function inconsistent/disables randomly*gears not engaging right away, then a loud noise and car surges/lunges into drive/reverse* lunging (mostly reverse) and surge/lunge when in drive/brake applied.
I have owned my 2006 Ford Freestyle for just over a year. . . . In this short time I have had it in the shop twice, both for major repairs. The first time was within weeks of my driving it off the lot; all of a sudden my car stopped recognizing the key (I guess it's a Smart key with a chip embedded in it). I had to get my car towed to two dealerships before the second one had it for multiple days before getting it back. This time I was leaving the store with my daughters. I started my car and shifted the gear to drive and although my car made the accelerating sound, it went absolutely nowhere. I then tried to reverse it and put it in neutral to see what it would do. I once again had to get it towed to two different dealerships and it has now been at the current dealership for over a week and they are having to disassemble my transmission to determine what is wrong with it. . My family was sitting in the car while it was parked in drive. It stalled out and made a strange sound that sounded like a problem with the transmission. I have noticed that when it is hot it seems to accelerate on its own. I have noticed that it usually happens at low speeds and reverse. I feel that this is very dangerous. I have researched this car online and have read that this has happened to quite a few of these cars. I wanted to make sure that this defect has been noted. Thank you for your time. ## VIN failed ## Ford, Freestyle, 2006 ##.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated while driving 50 mph the transmission light illuminated. The contact slowed down to 40 mph and the vehicle began to lunge forward independently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and was informed the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The day the vehicle was returned from the dealer the failure recurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who stated the transmission would need to be replaced again however they did not have parts. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the transmission was rebuilt. The failure recurred. The contact was informed that there was an electrical problem that was causing the transmission failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 84,000 and the current mileage was 85,000. Dt.
I was backing up out of a parking spot very slowly and the car surged backward about a foot, I was able to depress the brake and stop it. The fail safe mode then engaged. I turned the car off and sat for a couple minutes and restarted it and started backing out. The same thing happened again, the surge backward and the failsafe mode engaged. I once again stopped and turned off the engine and sat for about 15 minutes. When I restarted the car the check engine light was on but I was able to back out of the parking space all right, and the failsafe mode did not come back on. It was an extremely hot 100 degrees day, and the a/c was on. This is extremely scary. I could have hit someone.
Car lost power at 35-40 mph for just a few seconds. Many instances of lunging in forward and reverse. Frightening to drive in parking lots.
Parked in parking garage. When backing up, car lurched and ran into another vehicle that was backing up. I was in reverse when the other car backed up. Foot on brake and car lurched into other car. No personal injuries than goodness. Since that time, it has lurched in both forward and reverse. I originally thought that somehow my foot hit the gas pedal and could not figure out how I was doing this. I also thought that maybe the floor mat had somehow bound the gas pedal, but, I checked and it is not the problem. Sensor replaced on car as mechanic thought that this might be causing the problem. It was fine after that for about 1,500 miles and problem has started again. The problem seems to be made worse if the temperature is over 90 outside or if the car is sitting and idling or operating at low speeds. I have been lucky that no other property damage and/or personal injuries.
